I'm remaking my GlaDOS headmask and this time I want to use an LED light for the eye piece. I've seen a couple of other cosplayers do it. However I have no clue where to start. I have had a look through some videos and tutorials but haven't really found anything suitable.

If you know any online or video tutorials, they would be a big help. Or if you've made one yourself I would need a list of materials and where to possibly buy them from.

LED's can be tricky doing them from scratch, because the voltages they work on tend to not be the same as batteries you can buy. So you have to mess around calculating resistor values. Instead if you can find something that already has Leds in it which you can rip the guts out of this would save you all the hassel of working out the electronic components. Then you just have to install the guts into your costume including the battery holder.

I agree with what Ranma1-2 says. Even though it is a basic electronics it can be a real pain in the bum. I suggest either buying an orange coloured LED light off ebay or a white Led light from poundland and using orange perspex or clear perspex with orange glass paint (not the one you back the one that's air drying) and put the white light behind it Also this is a lot cheaper than buying all the kit that goes with putting electronics into cosplays

I should give some examples.. eg cheap led torch, led bicycle lamp set (esp if you need red), light up keyring novelties.
Just keep your eyes peeled and you will spot something which you can re-use as your lighting equipment.

If you really want to learn a bit of electronics and how to do it from scratch say tho - I can tell you how to do it that way if thats what you want.

They sell hobbie kits that allow you to build LED lighting systems from Maplins. They are very easy to make if you have the right equipment. All you would need to do would extend where the LEDs are placed with plain wire you you could locate them in the masks eye sockets.
