Well, those that are familiar with comics and superhero films will know that most have a mark or cowl of some kind.
One of the costumes I'm doing is Batgirl.
Does anyone have any good tutorials as to how I can make her cowl? It doesn't need to contain her little bat ears, just how to get the shape correct.
I'd like to use lycra so it matches the rest of it.

Basically two layers of paper card bent around my face and glued together with PVA to make the base shape. On its own like this it has a bit of flexibility. But once I put on the PVA filler layer it turned quite solid. Then I covered it over with the fabric to match the rest of the costume. Theres probably a better way of doing it so it is still flexible, using felt or something... |

| Ranma1-2 Joined: 19 Dec 2008 Posts: 527 | If youve got a wig stand / head form that is the same size as your head you can try to form the basic shapes on that. The hardest part is figuring out how much darting you need to cut out to get it to curve right around your forehead. Trial and error..you could make a paper template first and chop it as many times neccessary to get the pattern - Then you know where to cut the card version. Once you cut out and bend two matching card shapes to fit your face, layer some pva glue in between and press against your face whilst wearing it. It will dry enough pretty quickly then you can leave it to dry completley. It will hold your head shape pretty remarkably. Good luck.  |
