cosplay respect
Hi
I was at a comic convention recently, dressed as wonder woman raising money for my son's charity, enjoying the event. I saw many costumes -home made like mine and store bought, All the costumes looked great and people were having fun. Several of us in costume and family members decided to sit down and have lunch, it looked funny and was fun. A perswon in a costume (they did look great) came over and told us how stupid we looked, and we shoun'd cosplay as we looked bad. We asked him to leave. My costume was designed by my son and made by my wife, other costumes where home made. Could people respect the fact not everyone is the same size and shape, we will make the the costumes to fit our shape the best we can. If I dress as a predator, alien, planet of the apes character it may have a belly or very wide shoulders, the eye holes may be to close or to far apart, I have respect for anyone who wears a costume. Others should as well. Nasty, rude comments hurt and put people off. Has anyone else had an experience like this?

I haven't experienced it myself but i do understand i have alot of respect for people who are creative enough to make their own costumes. Cons are all about having fun so what if they don't look exactally like the character or their body shape isn't supposedly right. Everyones different some people can just be so mean and critical ><.

I don't have the experience like that. But I totally agree that people should show respect to each other.

First of all, your costume looks great, and it's nice to see that you are raising money for such a worth cause XD

this has been an issue that has gotten worse over the past few years. People pride to much on "perfect cosplay"
you have to be pretty and you have to look like the character in everyway. It's not how it should be, but it's kinda like beauty pagent. it makes it intimidating to newer and less skilled cosplayers trying out new things.

I don't really let it bother me. even though I have to admit I really like cosplay when It looks accurate, that doesn't stop me from apprichiating the efforts of others. I never really look great in my costumes but it's aboout having fun.

it's not about the costume or how accurate/pretty you look. it's about the spirit the cosplayer brings to the cosplay if you love it, thats all that should matter, and noone has the right to make you feel bad about your efforts.

Let's just ignore what this guy a second, and just ask yourself this.(I had to check the gender of the offender again because that is how much what they said matters. You'll understand why in a moment)

Were you having fun?
Did your Son love the costume once it was made?
Which of the two, you or him, make a difference in going out to do shizzle like this for CHARITY?

So this penis-brain had no right to come up and try to ruin your day. And furthermore, he can only have all the power to hurt you and let those comments sink in if you let him.
Did you know his name? what he does every day in life? No! Because he is insignificant to you. He could be a total waster who has nothing better to do in life. Take note you didn't disclose age or appearance, because that didn't matter - just like his thoughtless comments. I know who I'd rather hang out with or take a photo of!

Now it's not to say I wouldn't me hurt or disappointed that I managed to encounter such an idiot, but I wouldn't ever let it affect my future cosplays, or stop wearing the one that they had commented on. It's a kickass costume, time, money and love went into it. So what's the point in hating?

Next time either totally ignore him. Seriously, just look away and go back to what you're doing and make sure everyone else is in on it, or go and grab security and let them know someone is harassing you/threaten to call security. He wont feel so powerful then.

I'm really sorry to hear that you had to go through that though. I've never had it happen to me but I do know other people that have. They're just the distasteful stain on our community and you're always going to get them. Just don't rise to the bait or let them hurt you.
