Most excellent. I doubt if I'm that old if I'll be willing show my legs though. Then again I hope to be still an old goth when/if I'm that age.

Honestly?
Too old for cosplay = Never.
As you get older you're just more able to cosplay older characters. :3

24 Dec 2008 - 11:298952
I started when I was 12 ;D

Hmm, I dunno. I think any age is great for cosplay, as long as you're sticking to characters that are around your age, not like 20 years younger. -cough45yearoldbunnygirlscough-

I don't know, I think every situation is different, really. Ranma 1-2 up there makes a fabulous Sailor Mars, and Grandma Rikku is awesome.

There'll certainly be some things that will always be a bit weird and inappropriate past a certain age (adults cosplaying as little kids are never going to look right), but if you can either get away with looking a lot younger than you actually are, or think of a way to adapt a youthful costume so that it works for your age, then there's no reason why you shouldn't.

I don't see much of a problem with 45 year old bunny girls, either, if they've got the figure for it.

Ranma is an amazing Sailor Mars. <3

Hmm, I see what you mean. xP If say, a 60 year old guy cosplayed as one of the kids from Digimon... that WOULD be pretty creepy. o-o

I agree there are limits to do-able characters.. It's tough cos we're all different. Some of the guys here met me at the Expo and they didn't run a mile. Sailor senshi are high school age really but in the live action the actresses are more like full grown women, so that's why I think I got away with my Mars, and because she seemes like one of the older senshi along with Pluto who seems the oldest - so that's who I am doing next.
Funny but a bunny WAS on my list of to do's
But I promise no Chi's or Lollies, k?

I feel men are at something of an advantage on this - there are quite a lot of cool older male characters in anime, but comparatively few cool older female characters for us girls - most anime girls seem to be in their teens to early 20s.

Maybe I'm just watching all the wrong anime ^_^

I feel women have more attractive characters to choose from though...

Yays! You go girl. I'm going to be celebrating my 35th birthday this year. I'll be doing it in cosplay of course.

I intend to cosplay Sophie from Howl's Moving Castle when I'm over 60
And then I will find a nice Howl to hang out with all day

Being 25 and have been into cosplaying for just over a year (oct expo 07 was my first cosplay event). Currently I am thoroughly enjoying the whole experience of it all. Meeting new friends, chatting about related interests and finding common grounds. When I first started chatting to people and asked about ages I got a answar mainly ranging from 17 - 23. At first this a lil disheartening to hear as it felt i was a lil too old to start this type of thing(as fun as it was),and was thinking of packing it in until I saw threads like this with people nearer to or older than me doing cosplay as well which kinda relived me quite a bit.

I'd day it never ends as I met a 75 yo man in cosplay at Otakon. He was cosplaying the 3rd Hokage from Naruto...Sarutobi who is also old. He was awesome

My case is very similar. I'm 2 years older, though. I wish I had the chance to start earlier. But it wouldn't be fair if someone tell me to quit just when I got into it >_<.

I would love to see some people do some "older char" characters, such as Gandalf and the LOTR characters, or perhaps Xmen... theres no age limit, isnt in the world of fiction so why should there be for cosplay!

28 Feb 2009 - 12:3111213
Really it depends.
IF your gunna be like a famous cosplayer then there probably is a age thing.
But if you do it cuz YOU LOVE IT!!!!! Then i don't think there really is an age restriction cuz were doing it cuz we want to right?

This! There are some characters that only older people can do justice to. So saying that they shouldn't cosplay seems preeeetty dumb to me.

Can you expand on this? I don't really understand what you're trying to say XD Are you saying that you need to be an older person if you're going to be famous in the cosplay world or something?

Have done LOTR and X-men is on the cards. For the most part I can get away with most characters as I don't look my age. I do draw a line at cosplaying as school children. Mainly as I didn't enjoy my school years so its more of a personal thing than an age thing.

Recently I have actually managed to cosplay characters who are my own age. Sephiroth is in his 30's and soon I'll be doing Raphael Sorel who is 32.

Like Moonlily and Sam put forward, if there were no older cosplayers who would there be to do older characters?
When I go older I already plan to be Lord Genome from TTGL or Slayer from Guilty Gear. Or crossplaying Queen Beryl from Sailor Moon even. XD
When you go old it doesn't mean you should stop cosplaying, far from it. Just means that you now get the choice of doing older characters too. Not to mention mech suits, sentai, etc. are still doable.
