You know you've been cosplaying too long when....
...you look at a cosplay photo on the internet and can tell which convention it was taken at just by the lighting/windows in the background, even when it's in another country or you've never been there >_<;;

Noticed I've been doing that a lot recently. Anyone else wan't to add to the "you it's too long when..." list?

...you dream about your cosplay falling apart on the day of a convention.

...You go shopping for general items ie. food/bathroom stuff/school things etc. and instead stop and look at various items for sale thinking: 'That would be good for <insert prop here>' and 'Ah-ha! I need that for my <insert costume name here>' etc.

I can't be the only one who does this

I'm going to slash your pillow and tear out all the stuffing with a motorbike made of jelly.

*Hands up* i do that.

You know when you've been cosplaying too long when...
...you spend more money on cosplay supplies than your food per month.

... you wake up in the morning and write down the dream you had about the perfect way to perfect certain aspects of your current masterpiece.

...you dream about going to the convention and forgetting your cosplay.

... you can look at a picture and picture exactly how you're going to make the entire outfit, not just certain bits.

(i do all of those... T_T)

when costumes are finally taking over everything that you ever planned for your future...

15 Nov 2008 - 20:537622
... Your mum has a notebook with "Death Note" tip-ex'ed on to the front.

... Your dad can tell people what character you're next cosplaying, what game/series it's from and which character he'd most like to cosplay from that series.

... Even your grandparents try to understand that 'dressing up thing' you do XD

16 Nov 2008 - 01:207625
You're starting to need a new bedroom just for the wigs

You have more white shoes and boots in varying styles than ANY OTHER COLOUR

You find random bits of brightly coloured thread in unlikely places

Every single anime you watch and like has you thinking "who could I cosplay from this"...

I do all of these - so very badly. I'm also guilty of going shopping for normal things and finding ninety-one things that 'could come in useful for cosplay'. Oh yeah, and of spending far more money on dressing up than food. Somewhere along the line three square meals a day became far too many wigs...

16 Nov 2008 - 01:257626
You have cosplay nightmares. (Forgetting your costume, it falling apart etc)

You've stayed up until all hours of the morning the night before the convention to finish your costume.

Your parents begin to learn the names of the characters you cosplay... and the ones you don't.

If your parents are making your cosplays, they try and find easier routes of making it... Then you have an argument because it's not accurate to the references.

Whenever you go out to some scenic place or what have you, instead of thinking 'Wow, this is a really nice place!', the first thought to cross your mind is 'This would be such a great place to take cosplay photos!'.

Your grandad thinks it's really cool that he gets to make swords, spears and other crazy huge weapons for you.

When you have an enttire room deicated to cosplay. (guilty. It will very soon become a business though).

When you two sewing machines and an overlocker. Just in case anything breaks down.

When you buy a dvd of an anime because you want to cosplay the character on the cover and you want to find out more about them. (Guilty of this with Trinity Blood when I first saw Abel)

When the number of years you've done cosplay has reached double figures. (Guilty. In just four years time I'll of done 20 years)

16 Nov 2008 - 10:457632
when you buy a dvd (gurren lagann) then the limited edition version of the same volume comes out with a art box with it and a little figure of the main character so you buy that aswell, now having 2 same volumes lmao GUILTY

when i was buying statues at random at amecon trying to get ssj1 gohan for reference, but i didnt no which dragonball had him so i bought all 7 lmao which cost alot

spending neally 20 quid on a wallscrolll just to see some cosplay reference

spending ALLLLL your money on conventions and costuming(thank god parents still buy my food aha)

and as mother dumpling said(kaka) when all you see in your future is what costume your doing GUILTY I AM

allsooo every anime you watch liek nocturnal said, theres always one character from it atleast you always wana cosplay GUILTY AGAIN ohwell i have fun doing cosplay ahaha screw life i got cosplay XD

16 Nov 2008 - 16:107635
You have been made to take part in a Strike witches cosplay group and its all men and you agree!

16 Nov 2008 - 19:387639
...you do a costume that is so retro, no one gets it.

...you buy anime/manga/games just for the costumes, regardless of the quality.

...you're on first name terms with the cosplay committee of at least 8 different cons.

...you pack more sewing materials than clothes going to a con

16 Nov 2008 - 21:267643
It's only your first year cosplaying, and you already think Glompers (who could ruin YOUR FUCKING COSTUME) should be banned from cons.

For life.

You turn up to a con with repair items for absolutely ANYTHING that could go wrong. Sewing kit, super glue, cellotape, replacement costume...

16 Nov 2008 - 21:537645
LOL, a lot of these are so very true... And I've only been cosplaying for just under 2 years XD

You bring a hot glue gun along only to find there's no where to plug it in, so you use your car adapter and finish/fix your costume in the car park!

When your willing to spend a fortune on fabrics, wigs, accessories, etc but won't even buy yourself slightly overpriced food

When you start a new series you find a character you like and you deeply analyze their costumes and when watching the show you get distracted by their outfits to pay attention to what's happening!

Instead of asking for a shiny new console or mobile/MP3 for Xmas/Birthdays you ask for fabric/wigs!

17 Nov 2008 - 05:437653
Oh dear it's true, it's all true! I never even considered half this stuff before but there it is!

Has anyone else noticed that if we just replaced the word "cosplay" with "alcohol" or "gambling" this website would be an online support group for people with a serious addiction problem?

Rehab-con anyone?

~When you purchase gloves that should be armpit length but freak about them being 3 inches too short because it 'would be horribly innacurate for the costume'

~When you've just began dating someone and start racking your brain on what characters they would look good as an how you could convince them to do it AND attend a con with you.

~You give yourself a headache trying to visualize sewing patterns.

~When you go right in front of the bright t.v. screen just to see if you can just make out that tiny, little detail you believe is truly vital to the cosplay.

~When you are looking for a picture to use for your profile for the online course you're taking, and the only decent ones you can find are of you in cosplay...

~You've already planned out your next con year's cosplay, even before the dates are announced and the con is actually over.

~You're cosplaying someone from a game you've never played, because your friend wants you to and you like the character design.

~when you have to take costume pieces to school so you can finish your costume in time for the next con (*does not have Sailor tiaras in bag right now...*)

~When there is a roll of fabric and a pattern sitting on the table next to your laptop

~The employees at all the fabric stores in the area know you by name and give suggestions (Silver and I are guilty of that one - I bumped into one of the fabric land staff at the bus stop the other day and we sat and we chatted for ages!!)

~The only reason yo pay your rent is because it is almost physically impossible to move all your cosplay.

~When you're just walking around in your house and you pass by a large mirror. Instead of continuing to walk you start to do all the poses that your characters would do. Then when a family member walks by you act casual.

~ you type cosplay so often you've added it to your dictionary to stop it being corrected

~you room regularly looks like a fabric shop has exploded in it

~you're looking forward to halloween as thats when all the cheap plain fabric comes out! (and christmas for the shiny ribbon!)

There is always room for cake

To add to Gunstar's list:

~ you go into the fabric shop every lunch time, just to see if they have anything new in.

~ you buy sewing equipment even when you know you're not going to need it or really use it - you never, know it could come in handy for a prop.

~ you start getting concerned when you feel you're running out of character's to cosplay.

~ you think you look better in cosplay than out of it.

~ you've made a skirt/top/shoes/something for cosplay and would happily wear it/them out to work or on a casual basis

~ you've named your sewing machine (mine's called Tilly)

~ you've got scraps of paper at work scribbled on where you're trying to work out how that or this would look.

~ if someone in your house/flat who isn't a cosplayer touches or move anything you start having a mardy because you have to have your working space just so.

~ you pick something up when you're shopping and start thinking how the packaging could be turned into a prop.

~ you know the best places in your town to get bargains on materials (poundland!!)

~ you find yourself getting jealous of people who live in a closer vicinity to a certain fabric store or somewhere like Hobbycraft than you do. (No seriously. I'm so jealous of people who live near Hobbycrafts).

~ when you walk past a building, your first thought is: 'that would be a good place for a photoshoot with (insert costume here)!'

17 Nov 2008 - 12:267665
-you know when you cosplay too much when your mum rings to tell you theres a wig store just opened in your home town and that half your christmas present will be wigs

-you know when you cosplay too much when you buy fabric for multiple costumes

-you buy one wig and look into all possibities for different characters it could be used for

-when you listen to music and without realising think it would sound awesome in the masquerade to a certain character...i do this WAY TOO MUCH! eternal sailor moon group with all about us by tatu works way to well in my brain :/

-when you get annoyed at an anime you love just because the costume arent just cool enough...(damn you myself:yourself D: )

-when you choose costume making over a drunken night out

-silver my sewing machine is called Bert XD

-also when you get your hair cut like a character...i once dyed and had my styled and cut like Hikaru from MKR :/

When you are completely and utterly incapable of watching anything - ANYTHING! - without mentally planning how you would make several of the costumes.

I'm getting this every time I watch Merlin right now.

I'm guilty of cosplay nightmares. I have them at least once a month. XD

- when you put wigs on automatically in the morning as part of your waking up routine

- when you no longer buy/own "normal" clothes (>>; )

- when you can read subtitles and sew at the same time

- when you bring your sewing to class

You start hoarding cardboard and other packaging just in case you need it for a prop... and it's been sat in the same spot for near to half a year now, and just keeps growing.

You've thrown out old clothes/cleared out your wardrobe to make more room for your cosplay.

TOTALLY AGREED! But my parents made me throw it away and then I suddenly realised I needed them a week after I threw them away.

lol silver! I named my sewing machine Ben, as in Ben the Ba***rd sewing machine. As inevitably I end up yelling at it, (whist also reading subtitles...)

There is always room for cake
17 Nov 2008 - 19:497676
~ You know you've been cosplaying too long when you've watched that same anime episode over so many times, you're reading the subtitles in your head as you add the last details to the cosplay in that episode (just as reference you understand). xD

~when you've gotten so tired of predictive text not spelling "cosplay" right you add it anyway.

~you worry about the fabric being too thick or not having quite the right amount of stretch. and get all frustrated because you can't find fabric with the right looking weave. (guilty, i did that today. took me half an hour to find the right shade and material of cream!)

~you have more than one box stuffed with fabric. (i have 3 boxes, 2 draws and a bin bag of fabric. T_T i have no where to keep it!)

~ You have a seperate folder in your "pictures" folder full of folders of potential cosplays all organised into the different animes and tv shows. >.<

I'm guilty of planning too far in advance, i had my May's cosplay planned before i even started work on october's

I did that thing today! i was in Tiger and they have huge baubles there and i was going "am i going to make anything that needs huge bells?"
