Needs some help on cos-play!!!
Hello everyone,

I am a reporter and am currently doing a feature on Cos-play in London. Why its become so popular and how it brings people together. In particular I want to focus on the community aspect (gaming is often having the finger pointed at it for being a corruptive influence, but with cos-play people are bought together socially). Its for a wonderful show called London360 (sky channel 539) and is aiming to be an uplifting visual piece.

What I am looking for is anyone who would be willing to show off there cosplay skills on cameram, and perhaps even talk about what it is they love so much about it. I will be at MCM Expo London for the Saturday. Please get back to me if you would be willing.

Much appreciated xx

I'm pretty new to cosplay so I'd love to help you out but there will be much better cosplayers there! I'm sure you will get more replies closer to the expo when people have their costumes decided and have made progress on them. Good luck with your article, it sounds really interesting

Hey, do you have any articles of anything you've done previously? And who are you writing for?

It's just, cosplay hasn't exactly been shown in a good light by the media - taking part of what someone says and not putting it in context so they look like fool and barely veiled insults seems to be part of the many favourite pasttimes of journalists with regards to cosplay, and I think a lot of people on here will feel a bit better about it if you tell us what your angle actually is.

This, I think people will be happy to help you if they know exactly what they're doing and who's publishing it. We had someone a while ago who got a pretty horrible smear job and it upset her pretty badly. D:

Thanks for the pointers guys. I can completely understand your concern, the media does have a tendency to do this. The show I work for is concerned with giving marginalized communities within London a voice. What enticed me most about cos-play was the sense of community and friendship that is evident at events like MCM Expo. The piece I am working on will not have any specific agenda apart from being an interactive and visual piece. What I most want to do is show just how much work goes into the costumes and also the amount of fun people have at the event. Although this may seem like quite a limp angle I think the energy of the event will mean that it fly's without having a reflective voice.

On top of speaking to regular cos-players I am also interviewing Anthony Daniels and some people who run a cos-play business. Overall I want to find out WHY it has become so popular so quickly. All I intend to do is make cos-players look good and give the event some exposure. On a personal level I chose to cover it because I am a fan.

Here is a link to a rough cut of the last event I have covered, it will be featuring in the show London360 on Monday 28th @ 12pm & 12am and again on Sunday at 7pm, please be gentle as it is just a rough cut, the voice has been re-recorded and the colors corrected for the final piece. This is how I envisage the cos-play piece coming across.

Thanks,
