Hi everybody

I have been invited to do a charity collection in costume. I am collecting for muscular Dystrophy and my costume is Wonder Woman. I was there once before and there was no place to change, and the toilets were bad, My question is--- are you allowed to use public transport while in costume?. My wife and I can get me ready at home,I will walk to the train-- take it 2 stops --and I am there for the collection. Has any one travelled in costume? and does anyone know the rules for this?

theres no law to say you carnt travel in costume iv traveled from brimingham to london in costume before now so go for it

I'd recommend wearing a jacket/coat and baggy trousers/jeans over it while travelling.

thought of that -- no storage any where, just costume -wearing- and charity bucket (carried in plastic bag) while traveling 8 am to 4 pm

as someone already said there are no laws preventing you from wearing your costume on public transport but i will warn you do expect many stares from people and sometimes rude comments

Thank you for your ideas, there is no storage so will travel in costume and charity bucket in plastic bag. I have done several street collections, most people are great about it. going up on 8 am train traveling back on 4 pm train. Please have a look on my site . My wife made a home made version of the old origanal costume.

You can do it!
But as people have already said you would probably get a few stares and comments.
Although if you're lucky, you get the nice people that actually ask what you'd doing instead of just being rude. And I'm sure when you tell people what you're doing they'll be a little more understanding

You should be fine, as long as you act responsible on the train.
I went up from London to Birmingham in cosplay which was Yui from Angel beats (Pink wig, school uniform, lots of PVC). You get looks or little jokes if you talk to people (For example I got the train guy asking if he was still dreaming) then you get sometimes right on stares from smaller kids. Yup it should be fine! I always travel to cons in full costume, like some of the others said you just get some people who stare and make comments, you just shrug it off. You'll be fine! HAVE FUN

I travel to meets and cons in full costume - armour, props, make up - I do everything before I get there. It's not a big deal, if you smile at people they tend to smile back - albeit in a tad confused way

Travel in your costume, don't worry about what other people
think or say. Be proud

It's probably a confidence thing - Or arrogance xD - But I love travelling in costume. You get to come into contact with even more people! I say go for it, be proud of the costume

i went to mcm in my first costume PAC MAN and from experience its possible but very difficult in mascot style costumes , smaller ones are easier as i did for black star you get a good responce from most people i havent had any negativity toward my costumes yet (my only consern is weapon props which i always cover up till i arrive .)the london underground isn't built for big costumes lol especailly balancing on the esculator and squeezing into the DLR light railway thing .on the whole thou a retro costume gets reponce form younge and old . hope this helps for future or anyone else....?

There's absolutely nothing illegal about travelling in costume! I've seen plenty of "normal" people wearing much worse. Really, don't worry about you breaking any law with it.
Of course if you're worried about stares, you can always wear a jumper and a set of loose trousers, so you can get changed when you arrive at your destination.

I've done it. For London Expos I go on the Tube in costume, mostly out not wanting to get changed when I get there as I live in London.
