I'm considering making an underbust corset for my cosplay as my OC Talathiel, and haven't been able to find many places online to commission her corset that she wears over her coat.

Never made a corset before, so does anyone have any tips or suggestions for patterns and materials etc?

I'll be wearing it over a dark navy velvet....thing.

Materials I'd suggest for it would be coutil, spiral steels, plain steels both about 7mm wide, busk, eyelets (5mm wide) and a corset lace. You can cover the outside coutil of the corset with another fabric if you desire a certain colour or pattern since I find the cheaper coutil comes in black or white (there maybe a variety of colours somewhere but I haven't seen them yet since I get my materials at one place so far lol). Thanks, I've had a look at the venacava site, they even do kits! What's coutil like to sew? I've only sewn chiffon, crushed velvet and lycra before.

I'd never made a corset before and I found it a very easy tutorial to follow!

Coutil is a pretty sturdy fabric but it's alright to sew by hand, by machine it's no problem at all.
