There's been talk in the general thread about the event of a group meet-up, so I felt that putting it here where it can't get lost as easily would be the way to go to discuss this. Those who are going will now know if they are (Obviously. You've bought your tickets!)
Unfortunately I don't have very good knowledge of the surrounding area, so if anyone local could suggest a meeting spot then that would be very helpful. We can sort out a time closer to the date once everyone has sorted out transport and accommodation.
I've touched on this in the general thread but I thought I may as well say it here.
-Don't go for big props. You don't have a lot of space AT ALL so unless you look forward to holding up a prop between your legs all night, don't go for anything longer than your arm (elbow to fingertips?). So if it doesn't fit on your lap and you don't want the fuss, don't bring it. If you're lucky enough to be staying nearby and just want to bring it to the meet, post here and we can sort something out.
During the meet-up I'm sure pictures will definitely happen to commemorate the whole event, but keep it sensible!
-Consider size and height of your costume. So that would mean Black Waltzs will be out of the question (especially in the arena) because of the hats/wings. You don't want to knock people next to you. Large dresses are doable as I saw a Princess Garnet in her coronation dress. She seemed happy enough, just maybe consider reducing the volume or not having a crinoline/petticoat.
- If you do manage to get away with a weapon small enough, make sure it's obviously a fake weapon! So this means blaze tips/peace bonding people! Any guns should be put away outside the venue so you don't get a large security guard asking you to hand it over.
- It will be November. You'll do well to remember this and you will then be in a room packed with people. Dont wear anything you're going to freeze in, or overheat in. Treat this like a con in terms of cosplay guidelines. We don't want anybody getting so uncomfortable that they don't enjoy it.
-Comfy shoes! This is talking from experience but you do not want to know how many blisters I had on my feet walking from the hotel I was staying at, through the park to the venue (a LOT) and I was in agony, I'm only thinking of you guys here, but I still have the scarring from those custom made converse shoes - even after breaking them in. Or book yourselves a taxi to be safe
That's all the boring stuff out of the way and I hope I didn't come across as patronising, but we want to be able to come back year after year (hopefully!)
So if anyone is interested drop in a post here. I look forward to hearing about the different characters you're coming as! And if anyone can suggest a great place which hopefully isn't too far from the venue, let's hear it.
Of course, cosplay isn't absolutely necessary and if you want to come and have a chat, that's fine too!
