Cosplay problems
Right, an issue with the Ami top I'm making for Catnip-Dreams.

(note: She will not be wearing the black top)

It may or may not be very clear for you to see, but the top is not staying up at the back. It's fine at the front, but it needs to stay at bra level at the back as well.

I've been debating adding really strong invisible straps to it, but there isn't a way without the stitching showing and ruining it in the front.

Other methods I've thought of have been body tape or sewing it onto the bra she's wearing for it. I'd rather avoid the latter and I don't know how well body tape will work considering she's planning on dancing in this as well.

Does anyone know of any better methods?

Can you provide a reference image? I'd like to try to help but I'm not too sure what the design is!

Not an easy thing to do; they don't like to show the characters from behind. Not cute enough I imagine. Makes it very difficult.

Best I can do is link you to this video. She comes in at 0:42 and it spins her round (her back is on show at 0:52) - it's what I've been using as a reference.

It's not very helpful that Catnip is wearing a dark top too. It's basically a very tight top which sits at bra level and is held up by two very thin gold straps and anime physics.

It should sit armpit level all the way round the back but it's just not staying up.

Ref looks like a sailor collar to me. Thats how I would do it. For my Sailor Star Maker the sailor collar was a seperate part. I had to attach it to the bra straps at the top of the shoulders (fixings on the inside of the collar so you cant see them). Otherwise it kept slipping off centre around my neck. But other than the two fasteners underneath at the shoulder it isnt fixed, and works well.

Im not sure how you made your collar. I made my sailor collar the inside out way - ie leaving a small gap in the last seam so it can all be turned the right way and finally closing up the last gap. But my collar seams didnt lie flat, it looked more like a filled cushion! I had to put a cloth over and press flat with the hot iron. That made the edges look sharp and flat.

The sailor collar isn't the problem, I've already done that part and it attaches only to the front (I also used the inside out technique) and somehow stays in place. It's the back piece of the actual top which is refusing to stay where it should. The purple bit.

EDIT: which isn't that easy to spot cause the collar is in the way... Trust me, the top just isn't staying where it should which could lead to an embarrassing wardrobe malfunction.

The two gold straps would keep it in place, is there a reason you're not including them? You could tack them under the front with purple thread and no one would be able to see it.

The other option, if the top is fixed to the collar at the front, is to run a strap between the back top edge of the purple and the underside neck of the collar at the back. Essentially hang it off the collar.

Yes I see what you mean now. Umm to me the purple part looks similar to a camisole style whith thin Gold straps over the shoulders..the bottom edge of this I would say is joined to at the waist part. That would keep it all locked together. I would say fit Gold straps over the shoulders and adjust their length so the back part is held up where it should be. Then you just need to conceal the bra straps You could fix the straps over the bra straps once the costume is on. Tie some gold cotton to hold them both together. When the cosplay is over just bust the cotton ties to get changed. I guess as an alternative you could sew popper fasteners onto the gold straps and onto the bra straps..that be more work..

I agree with the gold strap suggestion but another thing you could do is just add some elastic to the back. Stitch a small piece of elastic across the top of the back (obviously stretch it out when you stitch it) It will pull it all in when not being worn but when on it will hold hold the top in place no problem! I have just done this with a halter neck dress of mine.

I've just not added the straps on yet. I'm concerned that they're just ribbons and that they wont be strong enough to hold up the top if there is excessive movement aka dancing.

I know I'm probably worrying about nothing, but I really don't want there to be a wardrobe malfunction and for Catnip to be embarrassed x_x

I'll experiment with it... It's just irritating cause it all fits but it just won't stay up >__<

Id also agree with the ribbon idea but if you feel that isnt going to hold once you experiment with it then an elasticated back is prob the next most secure thing to try
