Cosplay Documentary - Can you help?
Hi all,

This is my first post, be gentle!

I am a filmmaker / music video director based in the North of England. My work has been shown on MTV2, propeller and current. I am currently researching for my next project, which is a documentary on Cosplay.
Once finished, possibly middle of next year I am hoping for it to be aired on National TV (possibly Channel 4 or BBC3).

I am not a cosplayer, I am however and avid gamer and extremely interested in the scene of cosplay. I feel that a documentary exploring the scene could be fascinating and perhaps encourage others to take part. I am not out to patronise or make you look like an idiot.

The reason I’m posting is that I want your help. I need people to give frank interviews into why they cosplay, what made them start, what characters they like etc... From anyone to a casual to a costume maker!

I'm looking at filming these after Christmas, the interviews could last ten minutes to an hour – depending on how much you like to talk about your passion. You can either be a professional or someone who has just started. Ideally I’d like a mix. If possible i'd like to interview friends and family who don't cosplay, to get their perspective.

Unfortunately the interviews will not be paid (I have £0, however I am looking at trying to get some funding, if this happens a small payment might be possible), failing that I’ll buy you a beer and lunch!

I am also interested in filming at conventions and expos, if a bunch of you regularly get together If I could follow you around at a couple – fly on the wall style.

If you really do not want to be in this documentary do not message me. I only want people who are genuinely interested and won’t cancel at short notice. I am spending my own money on this film and don’t want to travel somewhere to be let down.

The only requirement is that you are a generally confident, outgoing person (I can't think of anyone who does cosplay who wouldn’t be!) and aged 18+.

If anyone is interested please let me know (PM or reply to this) and I will get back to you soon, over the next month or so. If you can include a link to some images it will make the process easier. Also -let me know which town you live in - it will make the planning of filming slightly easier.

I look forward to hearing from you.

I'd love to help out; i'd also recommend posting on the Auchinawa forums - www.auchinawa.org.uk and im 90% sure the members there would like to help out too; i've met the vast majority of them and they are lovely people.

The con is in 2 weeks meaning you don't have too wait too long for interviews etc :3

My location might make filming difficult as I'm in London, but if possible I'd love to take part. I've been cosplaying for almost 4 years, moderated the MCM Expo forums and am now a member of the CosplayIsland team ^_^

I'd be glad to help out on this too.

Plus its easy for me to get around as im practically in the middle of the country.

If you dont mind the journey, the earliest event I can think of that would have (somewhat) easy access would be the london expo which is usually around may time.

Other things, such as cons would possibly be hard, due to limited places available, meaning you may not always be able to make it to all the ones other people go to.

Current projects:
My Almost Perfect Life - Written out story draft, converting into script.
Netherworld Chronicles - Initinal planning finished, writing first draft.
Urban Warfare - Researching and planning

I'd love to take part! i'm pretty confident when it comes to these things. the only thing is, it'd need to be quite as i dun wanna look like an idiot going "huh? wut?" in a loud place like expo/any convention. the only problem is that i'm in the south east so we'd either have to meet half way or at a con etc etc. ^_^

I'm going to Expo in may so if you're gonna be exploring there i wouldn't mind meeting there. ^^

I've been cosplaying for....... 3 years now..? and aspiring to be a costume maker so i kinda fit the description perfectly. X3

Well, Random Accent usually spend the convention weekends together if you're looking for a group We're a cosplay/casual group of friends from all over the country who hang out at conventions, and outside of them too when we can all manage to make it ^_^

As well as that I would most definitely be up for an individual interview too, I think it all sounds brilliant and very exciting ^_^

I'd be happy to help - although I have only really been cosplaying for about a year.

And not wishing to deprive anyone else of course - but it might also be worth talking to Ilpala who had an article in the Metro recently ...

(we're on page 17)

FYI, I am the girl in the photo - really really not the best shot that I have but what can you do about it now, eh!

Oh and I'm most definitely over 18
