I was a bit disappointed that I didn't get recognised at London Super Comic Con as Black Canary, and I think my costume needs some help, if anyone can offer me suggestions on how to improve it.







The sleeves of the jacket have been cropped a little, I just don't have a good reference photo yet.
(references can be found under the costume in my profile - it's difficult to find a good reference as everybody draws Canary's outfit slightly differently to everybody else!)

I'd rather not make the mask as I have to wear glasses over the top when I'm not posing for a photo and I think that would be uncomfortable and look a bit silly, and I'm skint, so I can't really afford a wig.

But if you have any other suggestions on how to improve this costume I'd be very grateful!

Unfortunately there isn't much more you can do. Even if you could get a wig, it may not help that much.

The only thing that's rather different is that she wears leather, but I can understand why you wouldn't want to do that lol.

You may just have to latch yourself onto a group which relates

Ahaha yeah, I can't really afford a leather body, and I don't think that would be the most comfortable outfit at something busy like MCM Expo. I am looking into buying a better body when I have the funds, though.

That's a good idea, I'm trying to find groups right now in preparation. Bit disappointed that none of the Justice League recognised me at LSCC but two other people did so I guess it's just the character that's unrecognisable.

My adv..I always think larger fishnets look more accurate to comic chars. Normal size fishnet pattern effect tends to disappear at all but close ranges. My guess is comic artists just dont want to draw so many cross hatch lines so they draw larger size fishnet pattern. Tbh hun your costume looks great I really like it, its more that black canary isnt really a heavy hitter outside of a cosplay group specifically, like if you were with a green arrow or a batman group, justice league etc you might have had more recognition its more just the luck of the fans you find I go out of my way to find someone who knows Captain Marvel when I wear him at cons but for those odd times someone does it feels great!

I think you look great! You've got the outfit bang on I'd say. Black Canary's a tricky one because she's not got a really obviuous outfit like batgirl or supergirl.

Thank you! I don't know what it was, I just would have recognised Dinah before I got into comics so I figured that especially at a comics-based con she'd be recognised more, but I know what you mean

I would say get yourself some gold/yellow armour bits for the boots and gloves and that's all I could say to add to her.

I made mine out of painted foam >< but you could yours plasticard and shape it and paint it if you wanted more hardwearing stuff

That's all I would say and the fishnets.. then you're set to beast through your next comic con!
