Metallic Paint Help
Hey

I am working on the arm guards for my battle city Seto Kaiba and they look okay but I want them to really look like they are made of metal and are not just covered in silver-ish paint. What would I use...I was thinking maybe car paint as that has a shine but I am not sure...any help would be great thanks ^_^

You can get metallic spray paint It's what I used for my Little Sister syringe - there's only a progress photo in the journal at the moment, but you get the idea.

I've used car spray paints in the past for making cosplay stuff, but the shine seems to be gone when it's dried out for some reason. This goes without saying, but just make sure the paint can actually says metallic on it XD I got mine from B&Q if that's any help!

TheKillingDoll used car paint for his Priss Asagiri costume, which looks nice and metallic. A lot of it has to do with the surface you're painting on - the smoother the better, or the metallic particles will sink into any recesses and that impairs the reflective surface. So you'll probably want to prime the surface, especially if it's foam. He used PVA glue, and I've also seen a nice effect from Gesso.

It's also important to use a proper paint primer with car paint, they're generally available alongside. You want a couple of coats of this first, ideally. You also want at least a couple of coats of the car paint, and you can consider using a spray varnish on top. It's all about getting the surface as smooth as possible so it reflects light, that's what makes it look shiny
