only thing that really works is a roofing primer called isoflex special primer. it's kinda expensive tho...

paint the acrylic colour on first, then paint the isoflex over it like a varnish layer.

you can try getting some latex and mixing acrylic into it. Latex will make the paint more flexible, and so it won't flake in the same way. You can coat all the rubber bits like this to make sure it seals. Then slowly paint on more layers with less and less latex in the mix and you should get a good coverage.

The other option is warhammer paint. This stuff eats into whatever it's painted on, so it won't flake off.

warhammer paint won't really eat your shoes! it just wont come off them ever again! (but does give a good finish)

as for latex, i tend to use copydex glue which is latex based and acrylic mixed togther, which is nice and cheap!

There is always room for cake

lol thanks for that i am off shopping tommorrow to find some of the above. we shall see which is easiest to find, the small towns round where i live are very limited so i might have to resort to driving an hour on the motorway to bristol!
