Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland....
... so i've been reading up on the take on Alice in Wonderland that Tim Burton is currently filming for release in 2010, i hope it's as good as Sweeney Todd!

I look forward to Johnny D's performance as the Mad Hatter.

im already planning to do the Red Queen as a cosplay. >w<

What does anyone else think about it?
Reckon it'll be as good as Tim's other films?

I'm going to commit blasphemy and say he's over rated.

I think the last film of Tim Burton's I enjoyed was Legend of Sleepy Hollow.

He needs to branch out and use different actors, instead of whoring out Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter (She never has to worry about being out of work, now she's married Burton) otherwise his films are going to get very stale.

But that's just my view.

:O!!! I didn't know about it! But with the risky of being labeled as Tim Burton's fanboy I'll be defo looking forward to this movie. I've always loved Johnny Depp's performances under Tim Burton and have enyojed most of Tim Burton's films. I think he's the perfect director for Alice in Wonderland (either he or del Toro >_<

There was another Alice movie coming out (based on the PC game, a kinda gothic video game, in case you haven't played it), but I think the project was cancelled =/.

To tell you the truth I'm getting a little bored of Johnny Depp. xD; Tim Burton needs to choose different actors once in a while!

sorry to jump in on the thread like this, but if you were living in Plymouth a few months back, you coulda turned up to an audition to be an extra in Wonderland. They were also said to be doing some filming down here in Plymouth..

I feel a bit like Final Fantasy Unlimited now. I live in Wonderland! XD

I'm personally looking forward to this film ^-^ my friends been a big fan of Tim Burton ever since Edward Sisscorhands and she's proberly seen all his films. So due to this I've started to like his films too, I love the style of them and I can't wait to see Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter (I'm a fan, hehe sorry guys >.<

Im going to be controversial as well and say I am not holding any high hopes for this film!

Which, to be honest, I found quite sad but I cant really help it! I've been a die hard fan of Burtons since I was 4 when Nightmare Before Christmas came out. I love the references he makes to the old hammer horror films, and his films such as Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands, Nightmare Before Christmas and Vincent are all wonderful - mostly because he wrote the scripts himself!

His most recent 3 Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Corpse Bride, and Sweeney Todd have in my opinion been dreadful films! Mostly because he didnt produce or write them (with the accepetiuon of Corpse Bride - though he took the story from an old Russian fable). I personally think Sweeney Todd was a dreaful film, and my days the lighting was awful, I couldnt see what was going on most of the time!

As for Depp, I'm sure he'll be a good Mad Hatter but I also bet it'll be reminiscent of Willy Wonka!
Burton does audition Depp and Bonham Carter for every role he casts them in, hes obviously just a fan of their style and look which is fair enough! They do a good job in each of his films! Burton also hires the same crew for everyone of his films as well pretty much, so hes obviously comfortable with working with the same people and feels he has the perfect team for his vision!

Anyway, I am looking forward to seeing what hes done with Alice in Wonderland, but I dont hold many high hopes for originality points on it! I just hope Burton breaks his mould a little for it! It has the potential to be great!

I believe the film was made dark intentionally to highlight how depressing & hard life was like in London in those days. I really loved the way the film was set.

I was just highly critical of the singing as I've been in a production of Sweeney Todd myself and seen the Broadway & London versions. I like Johnny (although not a major fan) and Helena for their acting skills but I don't believe they were strong enough vocally. Tim Burton really should've looked more into vocal talent over acting presense in this film. Pirelli was spot on however in my opinion.

Alice is played by Mia Wasikowska, Matt Lucas is playing Tweedledum and Tweedledee.

I'm interested to see whos playing the cheshire cat!

Yes it was dark intentionally, moody atmosphere, depressing setting etc... but it shouldnt be so dark that the audience can barely see whats going on half the time! I think it was less the DOP's fault and more post-production whacking up the contrast levels too much! Tim Burtons DOP is a very good French operator, and the lighting looked more like it was CGed, so I dont think it was lightings doing.

And agreed, the singing was mediocre! Though I also think the songs for Sweeney Todd arnt that great anyway, there too repetitive, nothing happens in them!

That project has been put on hold (aka cancelled). Sarah and the director quit.

dose any one yet have an idea which book its based on? or do we belive itll be a mash-up like the Disney version?

11 Oct 2008 - 12:386825
i bet it's gonna be burton's own mashed up version.

the lighting in sweney todd was annoying at times but it definitely did a few scenes justice.

as for the songs, considering johnny didn't know he could sing before this film i think he sang pretty well. and the songs are catchy! A Little Priest is my favourite! i know all the words. XD

Music & lyrics by Stephen Sondheim.
Maybe you should check out his other work if you liked the songs in Sweeney Todd. He is very clever when it comes to writing music & vocal scores. As a singer you hate him at first as it almost seems impossible to do what he asks but when you get it right it's amazing. "Kiss Me" a song cut out of Burton's version is a duet by Anthony & Johanna and it's so bloody fast at times it's a bitch to sing without getting caught up in the other characters lines XD But when it works it's great.

The opening to "Company" is very clever with the many different harmonies and lyrics over-lapping also.

Burton's work has grown on me since I have a brother who is a Depp clone and is a fan of Burton's work.

I will be intriged to see hwo this dose turn out as I loved Corspe Bride and Chocolate Factory of his recent works. My favourite of Burton's work is still Sleepy Hollow. Its my kind of Gothic movie.

No doubt since my brother cosplays as all of Depp's characters he will do the Mad Hatter at some point.
