Cosplay Island | Chosing a character within certain guidelines

Imrose Joined: 07 May 2011 Posts: 10	Chosing a character within certain guidelines I am having trouble chosing a character to cosplay for the london expo in May. I would like to have help chosing one within certain guidelines because I just cannot make up my mind! The guidelines are: O-The character cannot be tall or incredibly skinny, for I am neither of these things and I don't even want to attempt to pull them off. O-The character has to have a costume that is easy to make,but not nessasarily basic, for I am still learning to sow but I am skilled to a certain extent. O-I would like it to be a character that is not overly cosplayed. The experience last time at the expo as America from APH was something I would not like that much. (dozens of Englands and other Americans coming up to me was not very exciting) The characters I have come up with so far are as follows: Pence - KH2 Mei Rin - Kuroshitsuji Latvia - APH Holy Rome - APH Katarou - Tatics Shigure - Fruits Basket Help on deciding between these characters or chosing on another one would be greatly apreciated __________________ Timey-Wimey

You could do a black/white/red mage from FF Sorry, I generally read clamp so their characters are ridiculously skinny and tall. Oh! FMA! Olivier Armstrong, Izumi Curtis and Ran Fan spring to mind. Holy Rome in particular I think would be relatively easy to make from scratch, as all you'd really need are the robes and the hat. And I'd definitely echo the above re. FMA Brotherhood, as there are loads of under-cosplayed characters in that as well as the more popular ones. __________________

Angel Tear Joined: 10 Jan 2011 Posts: 579	I dont want to list off characters for the sake of it, for the pure reason that I think you should cosplay who and what you like. It might be an idea to look over the series that you like or would like to watch and have a think about different characters. You mentioned Shigure, and a previous poster did mention Clamp characters. I personally love them, and while they are famous for being tall, skinny with spaghetti limbs, I wouldnt rule them out entirely. A lot of the characters do wear long and sweeping robes, which covers undesirable bits that you wish to conceal. Another idea would be a kigurumi. They're loose and they can be fun with a lot of freedom to how they're designed. some examples include Kero, Happy or any kind of pokemon. Just some food for thought __________________

Chimmy88 Joined: 24 Aug 2011 Posts: 91	I can fully agree with you on the "overly done" part, although if I ever want to cosplay someone that is overly done I tend to make it more unique than the others (i.e an LED in espeon's jewl on it's fore head to make it light up insted of it beeing there) Although you want to do someone tall maybe you could use stilts (kiddies stilts)... depending on the charicter though :L I would go for latvia as the uniform is pretty basic and the patterns you can buy and alter if you wanted to do him. As for the characters I listed, the feedback I had with the holy rome idea made me feel frawn towards that, which is what I hoped to get out of this post, so thank you, I have decided on holy rome, and as a side project will check out FMA once again __________________ Timey-Wimey
