I couldn't find another thread addressing this issue in a quick search, so forgive me if I have missed something...

Basically, I need to darken the roots of a wig to match this lovely lady's hair:

Although I need them a little lighter than they appear in the picture to compensate for shadows.

I have searched the interweb and the two most commonly suggested methods seem to be Sharpie (though limits exist where colour is concerned) and mascara (admittedly a little worried about that smudging/running).

Does anyone have any other methods/suggestions, or has anyone tried one of the above themselves and could give a recommendation? Or anyone at all have experience in this area?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I've used Copic markers (which has a massive colour range) on wigs before and they worked rather well.

I've not tried the mascara method but I'm a little dubious how that would go down. I think Sharpie is probably the better bet, but I've only ever Sharpie'd an entire wig myself.

I think you'd be fine just colouring straight onto a blonde wig with a brown Sharpie (if those exist) as the blonde should be light enough to take the colour. With Sharpie to make it fairly colour-fast you'll need to wash it a few times to get the excess dye off - I'm not sure if that might result in the dark running down into the light part of the wig.

Yeah, I was worried that the colour would run when rinsing because the wig I have is quite light (plus, admittedly I'm worried about the pink at the ends fading if I wash, because I've finally got it a good shade).
I guess I'll just have to be careful with it :/.

I recently used some promarkers to add low lights to a wig. They're really effective and come in lots of colours. EBay sells them at about £2

I'll second Letraset Pro-markers. I've used them to add colour to white wigs without any problems with the ink running. Just give it a quick rinse when you've finished adding the colour and allow to dry naturally.
