In need of a little support
I'm working on my Expo costume and I am trying to work out how I'm going to keep my dignity, can anyone help?

The costume in question is my Elika. Since the top is so low cut (back and front) I need to find a way to protect myself but not ruin the look of the top. Any suggestions. I have already looked into tit tape and I'm toying with the idea of putting some kind of boning into the top. Any help is very welcome.

That's something I need to look into for sure. I'm just worried about straps showing, especially with such a low front and back. :S

hmmmm *thinks*....

instead of using a bra.... if your worried about the top opening up how aout use a few lenghs of fishing wire (VERY thin but VERY strong stuff thats almost impossable to see) to keep the two sides from opening?

Problem is with fishing wire is that it pulls the fabric (you can see it pulled taught). I know I seem like I'm being awkward, but I'm a bit of a perfectionist at times ^__^;

You’d probably want to sew bra cups into a top like that, it could be into the lining so the stitching won’t show up on the outside, but looks as though the design would help with hiding that regardless.

Cups would give some support, and help keep things secure. You can buy the cup forms in fabric shops, haberdashers, or could take apart an old bra.

Perhaps experimenting with wire or something inside the edge of the top could be worthwhile; but I have no experience of it. I’d say that cups plus tape would do you nicely.

haha then heres what you do...

get some THIN plastic sheet, stick/sew it into the seam's of the outfit on the front and back, then use 2-3 strips of fishwire on both front and back

that way you wil get your support and it shouldent distort the shape of the outfit because the thing plastic sheet gives some support

eather that or cover your body in pva glue before u put the costume on

Hmm, that was the idea I was leaning towards the most. Not only is it easier, it's much more comfortable. Cheers hunny!

IDEA!!!!

TIGHTS... get s pair of tights that match your skin tone, then remove the straps from a bra of your choice and replace it with strips of the tights... (wider strips for chest and back so doesnt look so much like a strap lol)

but thats jsut random idea =]

I used tights for a bodysuit once and it's not a technique I'd recommend anyone to use. It didn't look very good and tights don't respond well to being cut and then stretched over your body at all!

I don't have much practical advice on making it stay in place but I would definitely agree with getting some bra cups and working them into the costume (preferably with an underwire if you can get/wear it). Quite apart from adding support, from a purely aesthetic point of view it'll give you a pleasing shape. I've seen so many low cut/off-the-shoulder costumes without bust support. The effect is always to make the cosplayer's boobs look saggy, and to make the costume look like it's within moments of slipping down (Tokyo Mew Mew costumes are especially bad for this).

Oh, as an alternative, you can get bras that come with clear straps, although I'm not sure if you can also get them with clear backs. Might be worth investigating though.

Have you tried body glue?

It's amazing at sticking fabric to skin (I always use it for stockings if I'm worried about them falling off!) Water soluble so it washes off you and the costume, and if you apply several layers it's very secure!

Comes in a handy roll-on too!

If you need a link to the site I get mine from, let me know ^^

Ah nice one! I was thinking of some kind of sock glue to hold the fabric to me, so I'll look into that. Cheers ma'dear!

You can buy stick on bra cups fromo places like LaSenza that hold you in place with out showing straps or back strap. I'm not sure on prices but I understand that they are very good. They come in black or fleash tone.

Ah nice, I'll go and talk to them about it. Ideally I need something that'll last me running around the Expo all day working etc. Thanks

Combine that with double-sided skin-tape and you'll be fine!

Ah, the infamous body glue.
It works well - I used it to keep Seung Mina's socks in place at AmeCon - twas indeed a blessing. However, I ended up with a rash on my leg for weeks afterwards!
But then that's probably just my skin being über sensitive - I also still have a mark on my upper arm from the elastic of Tifa's armwarmers ...

Still - thousands of Japanese girls (and cosplayers) can't be wrong, eh.

I bought some of those stick on bra cups (even though they're not flesh coloured for me! ). However, I just couldn't fathom them at all! One was perfect, the other just wouldn't play along - so I gave up.
Still, they weren't particularly expensive and hopefully one day I'll get to use them properly.

Is it worth having a word with GunstarVixen - she wore this lovely award-winning outfit at AmeCon

I think you should still sew in some cups into the costume for extra support- the way I look at it is that then you've got less things that can fall off, so there's less of a chance of something going wrong!

the one thing about cups is depending on the fabric they can show through. You'd need to have two layers to disguise the seam, but the outline shows though (as you can tell I gave this a lot of thought with LeBlanc)

If you need some *support* in the outfit I'd suggest some well placed bit of tape round the sides (not quite sure where, I haven;t had to try this part yet)

The tape does hold though, even when you are hot and sweaty, so you needn't worry to too much (but bring scissors and a spare roll just in case!)
