Fabric suggestions?
Hey everyone,

Now I've done some sewing and I'm getting a bit more confident in my abilities I thought I might plan something a bit more ambitious for next summer.

I'm considering cosplaying Squire from Batman (Knight and Squire) and I was just wondering if anyone had any preliminary construction or fabric suggestions? I'm finding her outfit a bit tricky to figure out (such as whether the shorts are joined to those stripey sock looking things, or whether the poofy sleeved top is actually a part of that black body suit type thing?)

Any ideas would be appreciated, especially for how I might go about making the weird waistcoat/bolero (I'm currently thinking heavy interfacing but perhaps there's something better out there?)

Here's a reference pic: http://dcu.blog.dccomics.com/files/2010/07/knsq_cv1.jpg (the gal on the right)

Sorry, I can't help you much but just wanted to say that is an awesome Batman-a-like! I've never even heard of that guy before (not that that's particularly strange) I might just have to add that to my cosplay list if I ever lose the weight and get a spandex body

If I were to guess how the costume was made up though I'd say it looks like the "socks" are actually part of a PVC cat suit with different colour bands around it looking at this picture :

The way the top twists when she bends also makes it look like the yellow is part of the catsuit as well. I think it looks like a full body suit with a different coloured top bit.

But in the picture you gave above I'd say it looks like striped tights under a black unitard with a long sleeved top attached on top of that.

TBH I think the second one would be much easier to make and would look just as good as the first one.

Good luck with this!

Knight is visually such a cool take on "Batman", isn't he? Though hardly very mobile or stealthy in all that armour XD but yes, him and all the British Batman crowd are good fun! I like Jarvis Poker too XD

Thanks for your thoughts on the costume. That pic is lot clearer and confirms that the outfit is all one bodysuit. The stripes on the legs are going to be tricky I imagine but I'll give them some thought Thanks again!

So after a quick break down here's a thought for you.

Red stripes =Ribbon + Magic Hem

Jumpsuit base = Dark blue Zentai Suit

Bust and jacket = Fake Lycra or Elastane/Polyester mixed fabrics.

Thanks for the suggestions the ribbon and magic hem certainly sounds like the best way to go for the stripes to avoid stitch lines.

My only concern is that a zentai suit might be too large for me. I've had a quick look on eBay and they tend to start at size S and I'm typically an XS. I'm not against the idea of making my own catsuit however so hopefully that won't be too much of a problem (though I know catsuits are fairly tricky to sew).

Hot wash shrinking! Always works! Then tumble dry!

Oooh, now actually intending to shrink something is a new concept to me but that's a good idea, thanks for the tip!

Abakhan is a great shop where I get my fabrics. They have shops overseas and in the UK. Hope this helped!

Considering my growing obsession with fabric stores I'm amazed I haven't come across Abakhan before now! Thanks so much for the tip!
