i haven't told any members of my family and i don't think i will for a while as i think that they just won't understand the concept of cosplaying. so i'm working on my very first cosplay in secret.

some of my friends know that i am cosplaying, whilst older friends of mine i haven't as i want it to be a surprise.

They like it . Even though I do spend too much money and time worrying about it . But all in all it makes me very happy and they can'r argue with that. My dad bought me my gas pump for my Little Sister syringe and bought me my Fallout 3 Lunchbox without any questions :3 .

My parents really don't mind me cosplaying, if anything they are actually happy that I cosplay as the rest of my year in school all get drunk etc every weekend and they know i've met all of my closest friends through cosplaying.

The only thing that my mum constantly brings up is that I don't cosplay alot of girls, she moans as I ask to buy a cosplay of a guy more than I ever ask to buy a girl's cosplay. But I tend to like guy characters more xD ! lol

My parents don't approve of cosplay they're concerned about me being picked out of the croud (especially when going into London), but I've been doing it for a while now, and they've stopped asking questions for the most part now.

I can't and won't tell them how much money I spend on it.

Well, my parents generally don't care that much what I do (in a good way, I guess xD) but my mum just thinks I'm weird anyway. It depends what I'm cosplaying as - she was just confused by Final Fantasy and made fun a bit, but she's a huge Game of Thrones fangirl Don't think my Dad's noticed yet - he's pretty unobservant.

My friends largely think it's cool. Some of them probably don't get it, but they keep it to themselves and I'm not exactly prolific at it yet, so...

I totally agree with the money thing. The one complaint mother has is the sheer amount I spend on wigs!

It's nice to know some people have the same experiences as me in cosplaying

My parents dont seem to care much about how much I spend since I try and use my own money to buy the wigs and materials.

If anything, they love it when I buy new wigs as I tend to wear most of then as casual wear sometimes so they pay for themselves after a while, and they pretty much demand me to cut/dye my hair like them as they are more stylish.

lol my mums like you are doing that japan stuff again >.<, my dad still think anime is cartoon, but they dont mind me cosplaying now.

My mum helped me sew a fiddly part on mhy foirst ever cosplay (sleeves). She's even cool with me crossplaying as long as she gets to see pictures, and I don;t do something stupid like wearing something slutty late at night in a rough area.

My brother is supportive and kinda interested as long as I don't go on about it too much and bore him.

My friends and work colleagues are mostly "oh that's kinda cool". But I'm selective in what pictures and costumes I make public for the latter to see.

The only negative I get is the mild embarrassment when non-cosplaying relatives are in awe at my costumes. It's obviously because they have no frame of reference. But to me who has seen far more experienced and skilled costumers, it feels awkward.
