Least favorite part of making a cosplay
Hey guys!

So I just finished the main part of one of my cosplays, and it reminded me of the thing I always dread the most when sewing costumes...but it got me wondering what you guys find drives you nuts when making your cosplays. Anyone wanna share/vent?

My least favorite is sleeves, and everything about them. I never seem to measure right the first time then spend ages trying to get them to fit right. It's easily the most stressful and least enjoyable part of every costume I've made. Grah!

Cutting the fabric
I kid you not, I hate that part! This is why I don't use patterns, don't have the patience!

Hate collars too. I try to avoid them.

I dislike making full length trousers as well, always try to buy or modify them but sometimes I have to make them otherwise it won't match the fabric or it won't be perfect... But generally if it's a full length trouser, I do my best to find something similar.

Cutting the fabric is horrible, I'm always scared I'll make a huge mistake (a sensible fear because I am absent minded and have made huge mistakes in the past). But mostly I hate doing the little fiddley bits. I love constructing things but when it comes to finishing them off I really have to force myself :c

Cutting out patterns. Not the fabric itself, the stupid paper patterns. Nothing more frustrating!

Also, lining. ialwaysforgethowitworksahghgh

The pattern making. I am good at it but hate it with a burning vengeance. Once I get pinning and sewing I'm fine, but there is usually a need for tissues when I'm making progress. I'd much sooner make a loose garment then take it in when needed. It's just hard when its for myself as no one else can help me to pin it in D:

Cutting out pattern pieces, pinning them to the fabric, then cutting them out all over again. It's so boring!

I hate sleeves too. Making them is fine, attaching them is a pain. I've never been able to get the ease-stitching right.

Hemming. Theres always alot of this that has to be done in every costume.

And pleats. I never seem to get them even ><

Firstly, I agree with most people when they say the pattern ¬¬ I not only hate drawing round them carefully to get my size but I hate altering places on the patterns where necessary! >.< It makes it worse when there are loads of panels - I struggled with a corset pattern as an example... had to alter EACH piece three times before I got it right DX

Amd secondly, though this doesn't apply to all my cosplays I hate making boot covers or gloves as they have to smuggling fit round you and I always try to avoid cosplays where I know I have to make them XD

Prop making.

Argh, not a job for a girl like me. The props turned out looking good and how I wanted it. But the process and having to remake things. As well as figuring out all the tools and materials you need to us in the process, it's all so confusing!

Thankfully my Dad and fiance helps when they can by giving suggestions

Yes, I second gloves and boot covers!
I like to recycle the shoes I use as base shoes but I'm always too stupid to remember to make a pattern out of muslim or something so that I can reuse it again and again rather than guessing and making a new one each time X____x;

Same goes for gloves, I've made them in the past, but one day I need to remember to draw it out onto paper so that I can keep it instead of redrawing it out every time I need to make them...

boot covers and collars. Neither like to work properly for me
and hemming due to it being the most tedious and time consuming thing in the world

Like most others here: collars and sleeves.

And hand sewing DX

I used to hate putting in zips. Every time I did one something would go wrong. The top thread would break, then the bottom thread would, then the top ran out, then I'd gone wonky etc. etc.
Although now I'm fine with zips. Managed to get the knack. I'm not even sure how I couldn't do it in the first place.

I agree with everyone saying about cutting out patterns and fabric. I have no problem doing it, it just takes so long. I can spend 5 hours cutting everything out, and then sew the thing together in about 3 hours. Something not right there.

I don't particularly like doing long hems either. They usually buckle up for me and I can't get them to lie straight whatever I do.

Finishing the cosplay D=

I like getting great swathes of the cosplay done at once... but going back to do little details always annoys me!! Mainly because I keep thinking... "In this time, I could have sewn a WHOLE SKIRT" or something of that ilk XD

I actually enjoy cutting out the patterns / fabric, I think making the pattern up is my fav. part XD

The part I don't the most is cutting all the loose threads. It's annoying...but worth it.

Fabric buying (kind of counts) can be a bit of a chore if you can't find EXACTLY what you're after but that's mostly me being stupidly picky.

Rethreading the machine is a bit of a pain in the neck when it likes to keep unthreading and taking out stitches which quite haven't gone right. Especially stretch stitch.

Mine is the same as most - cutting out the pattern and the sleeves. I swear i'm yet to make a pair of sleeves i'm fully happy with. -_-;;

Although another thing is cutting hems. So many times i've accidentally snipped the actual fabric. SO MUCH RAGE.

easily my least favorite part of cosplay is nagging Fables to make stuff for me. XD

Ohlord, I forgot about cutting everything out...somehow. I hate starting it especially, I'm always sure I'll mess up!
This is so interesting ='D

trying to just pattern pieces from more than two sources to make them work -_-

I'm going to have to go with the majority here and say sleeves

I probably hate making trousers more though - I end up buying trousers most of the time.

Also unpicking stuff when it goes wrong, and that horrid moment when you start the sewing machine and it pulls up and pulls the thread out of the needle so you have to re-thread it... then you forget and it happens again

21 Sep 2011 - 11:2570443
When the thread runs out on the sewing machine but you don't notice, so you've removed several pins and have to align it all again D:

The details.

Given time, I can get something basic looking out, but I sometimes dont have the patience for the little details.

I did a roxas costume once, modified a jacket, but the time painting in the black squares over it almost drove me to tears...

Lol I never thought of this so this is numero uno.

Second one would be painting, I hate it, I always seem to mess it up by touching it too early or there's a hair in it or its shiny when the other side is matt (no idea why) or it sticks to the paper and tears ARRRGGHHHHHHH!! or you use really nice chrome paint and the packing foam you use to protect it causes a stippled effect (damn you buster sword)
