Yeah... you won't get many people volunteering for this unless you come up with a better angle than "look at these nutters taking their hobbies way too seriously, oh ho ho".
I watched your LFCC film and I liked the overall tone, you were positive and enthusiastic and there wasn't any sarcasm or veiled attempts to mock people who were attending, as we've seen in a lot of other non-geeky coverage. If you took a similar approach to a short piece about cosplay, not trying to focus on the *crazy* stuff and instead saying from the outset, "this is a strange world for me, I want to know what makes those involved in it tick", you'd get plenty of willing volunteers and also have a more balanced piece at the end of it. Not to mention that this approach would set you apart from everything else out there and give you a nice USP. I've seen documentaries about cosplay that have been positive and accurate, and they tend to be by cosplayers. I've also seen outsiders attempt to "explore" the world of cosplay and they almost invariably go down the "look at these weirdos" avenue. I'd love to see a documentary that combined an outsider's curiosity about cosplay with a positive and accurate discussion about what it involves and what motivates those of us who do it.
