But that's slightly crass and insensitive of you to say so. Cosplaying is a facet of a persons life whether it be the biggest facet in their lives or the smallest. And Their sexuality ties into it more often than not. I mean I cosplayed because I wanted to do this character to bad (porn does this to someone) that being him would be the ultimate dream..and it has been. And sexuality is the biggest drive sometimes. So before you dismiss gender (which is whether you think your a feminine or masculine) and sex (biological) out the window just because it's Cosplay- just be Careful not to tread on people's toes. I'm not saying you have but you're close. Sexuality is a heavy part of Cosplaying for people especially me. Whiter they realise it or not. Then again some people are just so obsessed with making stuff that sex has nothing to do with it at all. Personally- I'd love to see Wakka, Ryu and Basch in a bed together Oh thank f*ck you agree with me! Didn't wanna be on my own there!

I avoid those characters for my cosplays, just because it feels like "cosplay masturbation" and is a bit weird. The idea of portraying someone you find attractive seems almost... egotistical? That's not the word I want, but the one I do eludes me. I'm not saying you are, so please don't take offence at this, but that is how I would feel about myself if I did it. Of course, looking at my current costume list, there's nobody over the age of 15 on it, and sexualization isn't really a factor in mine. XD Also, Wakka, really? He's like the least sexual thing ever. XD Although tbh your cosplay makes him seem fairly hot. EDIT: Oh yeah, I'm gay, and I know a few other LGBT cosplayers. Hurr durr actually answering the OP question. Because I have a worldly and overtly outrageous sense of life when really, if you think about the bigger picture: it's more than just your little 1 square mile of habitation. It irks me to think that cosplay is just... I don't know.. 1 dimensional, when really Costume Roleplay or Costume Play is essentially, becoming the character. Why would you not want to be the character? And be yourself at the same time? Has anyone ever asked themselves whilst cosplaying: What would it be like to be in the shoes of that character? Cosplay provides that and so to Answer Algebra's question: You're looking for Self Glorification not Egotisical. To satisfy your ego is hardly the case. Unless you truly do say your costume is the best then THAT is egotistical.. to be in a Character Costume that you've always wanted to be in, even if it is sexually driven is what I would consider Self Actualisation and Glorification- and a route to a happier you. Think about it: What better way to make you happy cosplay wise then to cosplay the people you love doing. If there's a sexual link to it- then its just a route amongst many... Most people have other routes: because its a challenge, or its suitable..blah blah blah.. And you nearly stepped on a foot there too. Because A lot of people do this. Girls Cosplay Bayonetta for many reasons and one of the highest ranked reasons is because shes Sexy, powerful and strong... In my honest opinion... I'd say I think the way everyone else doesn't want to think and that is: Gender and Sexuality play the biggest part of Cosplaying. I'm gay, and I cosplay Manly Characters because that's my drive- the way I want to cosplay, the way I want to be represented, and not like the Bishounen boys with gaunt eyes and skinny frames that make me feel like I'd break them the moment I breathed near them. I do apologise.. That was a really rude and outright comment but.. It's the way I feel sometimes. Sorry =(!

I don't find your posts rude at all, I like when people actually express their thoughts rather than getting all worried over stepping on people's toes (although I get that some people can be a bit overly sensitive). My cosplays tend to be younger and more happy-go-lucky characters, because it makes the cosplay that much more fun for me. I'm planning a more 'sexualised' one, but even that is going to be fairly funny and silly. It's a good incentive to actually get to the gym though. >_> Also, I am very curious now. XD

Although I don't throw who I am and what I like in peoples faces, i've kinda been waiting for a post like this. This thread can be highly related to cosplay, and so every one who wants to be, can be open about it. Most of the cosplayers I know are one of LGBT, so I don't think in any way this thread was a bad idea. The cosplay community is full of friendly people who share the same interest, a hard combination to find if you ask me, and so it's very unlikely that any one in this community will have anything to say against this topic. feels deflated from letting all that out xD

I agree. I have gender problems, but under recent assurance that it's part of my mental illness, it's not so much to worry about. So I'm just gay. Ha! Even still though, I much prefer to cosplay guys as I feel so much comfortable doing that.

Gender problems can be horrible when you have no one to talk to them about that understands, my cosplay friends have helped alot though. Yes! Cosplaying guys is so comforting. :3

Of course, not everyone is great like us lot but on the whole I'd still say so. I also think that whatever way you look at it, LGBT people are a minority. So I know it's not always easy to meet other people if you are one of them yourself, I mean hell it can be hard enough to meet a girl if you're a guy and vice versa. I think a lot of people choose characters who are kind of like an "Ideal Persona" for them. Usually because they have some kind of traits that they like or want other people to think they have, so that can be sexual or otherwise... I'm kinda guilty of it myself, I have chosen some outfits because I want people to notice me. But it's usually only part of the reason, like I'd never do a character who I didn't know anything about! Like I said before, I am straight but I have nothing against people with any kind of different lifestyle to me, homosexuals and the like are no exception. (Only people who I can't tolerate are people who can't tolerate other people.) Like you said, cosplay is a great escape from boring everyday life (My life can bore the crap out of me, to be brutally honest.) you don't have to be a geek to like it, you don't have to be super cool, either. __________________

Keep your guard up and don't let sleeping dogs lie if you understand what I mean, its just like anyone else out there. Any form of "unconventional" humanist ways is considered weird... @Algebra: Hopefully with the right kind of exposure and quantity of it, we can hopefully deter future "Over-sensitive" displays. It's usually a sign of the unfamiliar. If you don't know the situation you're more careful not to do anything you wouldn't do, so you say nothing or say a little. Only the brave go and open their mouths... And the stupid sometimes ...like nafnamtab >_> @Mycroft: Gender problems?! BAH! Gender Flux is what you're in! Never a problem unless it impeeds your life.

Lots of guys spoke to me that day and were like "This is awesome, you're so brave for doing it." and I was confused as to what was brave about it. Are straight guys weird about doing slightly more effeminate cosplays?

Are people watching it on TV or what? Also I would say crossplay is certainly more likely in any queer cosplayers, rather than straight, but of course straight people crossplay too,a lot. I've just found crossplay to be a bit more common in us queers. xD
