I'm wondering if anyone here has imported Japanese PSP games, and could tell me about the pricing or if there are any cheap websites. For a second hand Project Diva game imported from Japan (it came looking new) it cost me around £30. I haven't ever imported a PSP game before and had purchased it from ebay. But I was wondering if anyone knew of any cheaper websites. As I've seen the 2nd version of the game going from £50 to £100.
Are the prices just because its in high demand, or do games cost alot more in Japan then the UK? Or is it a weak pound against the yen thing? As I have only done this once recently, other then the odd second hand snes game (which tend to be cheap anyway). I was wondering if anyone new any good websites to import from and what prices to expect.

For an older second hand game...well, you can pick it up for a lot cheaper. If you're looking for a cheaper version, if you give me a few days, I'll look around the second-hand shops here and see if I can find it here any cheaper. I'm sure I saw a copy or two in Book-Off a while back. £50-100 is probably because it's in high demand and you can't get it in the west. I expect Final Fantasy Type-0 may be similar until they decide to change their mind and release it in the West after all.
As for Price, DVDs and Games and the such do tend to be quite expensive out here, but the problem is is that it's very hard to separate it from the exchange rate. For example, Type-0 ( using it again) will be about 7700 Yen in the shops, which is about £64, but before the economy crashed it would have been more like just under £40. So yes, even before the crash, it was more expensive but then that's possibly because you're looking at it through a foreign currency which isn't a fixed point. If you're income is in Yen, I'm sure it doesn't seem nearly as bad. Though perhaps I should point out that Final Fantasy is a big name, so I beleive it is in the higher price range. I hope that helps and made sense. As I said, if you'd like me to, I can look around the second hand shops for you and see what I can find. 'Project Diva 2' right? http://www.amiami.jp/shop/?set=english&vgForm=ProductInfo&sku=TVG-PSP-1437&template=default/product/e_display.html although it's backordered it may be worth trying to get it from AmiAmi, although if that fails you may have to wait for a while untill they get it back in stock. Hope this helps =P |

The problem with importing anything though is that if the customs man finds out you may have to pay a customs charge for it with will bump up the price considerably. |

Firstly thank you for typing out such a detailed reply I didn't expect to get this much information. £30 (judging by western prices) isn't bad at all for a new game, however this was second hand, new ones seemed to start at £70 of the first game on ebay. However it came looking new so no problems there (and its one of the most addictive things I've played in a while). If you see it 2nd hand one in a shop while generally browsing or a new copy could tell me what the retail price is I'd be curious to know |

Hope this helps =P That may be worth a try as 4,890 yen is under £40 roughly I guess. However I'd wonder how much the postage would be. Thanks for the link, however I tend not to like back ordering things as play.com sent my mum something she'd bought me for christmas (they'd just run out of stock when she ordered) and forgot and it arrived 2 years later... we got a refund but it involved a very confused indian call centre Thank you very much for the link I'll go have a nose what there postage is. |

Yeah customs is one of the reasons I'm trying to order it cheap Problem is with customs these days is if they grab something they charge you whatever percentage it is, and then also have a flat out service charge of roughly £23.00. I found this out the hard way recently where I spent what the box of drawing equipement cost me for my animation course again in tax... In the past I've imported stuff and it only cost a few pounds, but I wonder if its different for differen't countries and the nature of the product. I think price wise I wouldn't go higher then £40, but that be at a push, simply becuase I can't afford more then that on a game at the moment. Thank you for the link though |
