Fake Leather
I'm hoping someone can point me towards a material which will give the look of leather and be easy enough to work with.

I need it for the belt pouches shown on the back of this costume:

Or alternatively, if anyone has any other materials/methods they think would work, I'd love to hear them.

Thanks!

Most fabric shops sell Pleather....pretty much as it sounds it's just fake leather. XD It comes in all colours and shades and varying degrees of thickness/rigidity and is much cheaper and easier to work with than real leather.
Might be an idea to have a look on online stores though for a greater choice of colours etc.
(As an aside, I've even used textured floor vinyl before for a different sort of effect, but pleather is most noteworthy).

Thanks, I'll check the Pleather out.
I'd heard of using vinyl for things before, although I don't know how I'd get hold of it in smaller quantities.

I've been told that pleather is the American name for it. It's also called PVC, Vinyl and Leatherette if you're only needing a little bit you could try and find what you need on the likes of ebay and send an email to the seller asking for a sample ebay peeps are quite generous with their samples

I got fake leather material for my suki cosplay of ebay and off some random site linked from google for my ginchiyo one. It's easy to work with (but if your putting it through the sewing machine and it's as thick as the stuff I used for my ginchiyo costume you may need a proper leather needle to sew evenly.)

There's one relatively close, so I'll have a check next time I'm in that area thanks!

Leatherette
Hi
Everyones pointing you in the right direction, ebay has lots of suppliers that sell small quantities of vinyl or leatherette.
If you need larger amounts, just put leatherette into google.
