What is the appropriate way to respond to a comment on cosplayisland?
So. I have always wondered this, and have finally decided to bring it to the attention of the forum.

When someone comments on your costume, how do you respond to them? What is the appropriate action to take? There is no 'reply' button on cosplayisland costume profiles, so... what do you do? I always feel a little bit weird just commenting on my own costume because I'm like 'will they actually see this...? Am I the only one who is going to be notified of me posting on my own costume? WILL PEOPLE THINK I'M ARROGANT IF I DO THIS?' etc etc.

So, what do you do? I'm just curious so that I can respond in the exact same way as you guys and no longer feel weird about it.

Well, there's no set way, really. You can always drop someone a personal message just to say thank you... I think that's what most people do.

I know, it feels wierd. What I used to do was send a PM to anybody that commented, but stoped because sending a PM that just says 'thanks for the comment!' seemed a little too much ^^"
I think there should be a reply button though.

Yeah, I never really got why there wasn't a reply button on costume comments... It just seems... tidier? Because, like you say, sending a personal message just to say 'thanks for the comment!' seems a little bit like overkill XD;

I think sending "thanks for the costume" after every comment gets a bit... OTT. I usually comments after a couple of comments, then you can thank a couple of people in one go, and answer any kind of in-depth comment anyone might have. ^___^ But maybe that's just me.

Thats pretty much what I do.

Or, If I think a little conversation is going to happen in my comments (or someone else's) I'll take it to a PM.

I get really awkward commenting on my own costumes even if it's just a thanks to people as it feels like I'm just trying to raise my comment count. So I only do it if people ask a question, at least that way it's a helpful comment.

Instead I go on the person's profile and take a look around their costumes and comment on their costumes. It gets me looking at other people's accounts that I may not know. Gets a bit difficult if the person doesn't have any costumes uploaded but hey ho, I still appreciate the comments!

I think a lot of people will make a comment on a cosplay of the person who commented. Acknowledges that you've seen the comment without just saying 'Thanks'. Although, sometimes I feel that people are just commenting for the sake of it when they're doing that, and in a way I'd rather have someone want to comment.

Anyway, drifting a bit off topic there =p
Like Telly said, also wait for a few people to comment before you say anything. Of course that can clog up your comments.
And if you really have something in specific to respond to someone, PM them, otherwise that seems fairly pointless.

Of course, all depends on what you want on your costumes and in the comments really =]
I don't think anyone here will particularly mind what you choose to do.

[Personally I don't get many comments so I tend to not do anything about them. If I got a few in one go I would probably say thanks in my comments after them. I do often look through people's cosplays but don't tend to comment unless I think I would have anyway (ie not doing it for the sake of it)]

I usually comment on one of the commenter's costumes, or if there are a lot of comments, I put a general 'thank you' comment on my costume.
If anyone asks a question, I try to reply via one of thier costumes or PM. On lazy days I just reply on my costume xD

Ahh, I like this going onto their profiles and commenting on their costumes... That will definitely alleviate my guilt of not being able to say thank you.

This is exactly what I do as well
I'll only respond if I have been asked a direct question.
But I will look at their costumes and comment on anything I like, that I may not have seen

I RAGE so hard at people that hold conversations on their costumes. GAH

IAWTC!! I honestly don't know how to say thanks for comments on here, we need comment/response trees or a general profile wall that we can post on instead of having to comment directly on costumes to say thanks. I don't have this problem on deviantart, cosplayisland seems a little bit awkward for replying though :S

29 Aug 2011 - 21:3768041
i just comment back. but it would be nice for a reply button. ask and u may even get 1. i still think there should be a shout box on ppls overview pages tbh.

29 Aug 2011 - 21:4768046
I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels somewhat awkward about this D8 I've put a thread on the site feedback, so I hope they take it into account!

29 Aug 2011 - 22:4568060
Surely a reply button would cause the same problems mentioned above, people would have to go to your costume again to see the replies unless they implement email notification.

I just comment back, if they ask a question then they would likely go back to the costume to see the answer.

29 Aug 2011 - 23:0668063
I don't like to spam my own comment box but at the same time I don't want people thinking I'm ignoring their comment or I don't care ect. I tend to see if I get a few within a few days then respond to them all in one go.

it'd be nice if they could change the script so reply text would appear indented underneath the original message. Similar to deviantart I suppose. I think that kind of format is called 'nest'.

I'm with the generally mentality of of 'I don't like spamming my own page, so I wait for a few to build up.' I go to people's own page as well, but I do that anyway. If I see a new person, someone I don't recognise, cosplay I like or anything else like that, I tend to go and get out the person's profile page and see what else they have done.
The 'post on your own page' seemed to be what everyone was doing, so I just did that as well. But then, I could never make up my mind and this method seems to be going out of fashion a bit. I agree a reply button would be great, but then, it would never quite get rid of my awkwardness about it until it stops adding the replies to the comment count.

Yeah, I always wondered this too... I feel bad about not thanking them but I see no point of doing it in my own comments when it isn't as an actual reply.

If someone mentions something that I feel that I should reply to, I usually reply to them on a cosplay of theirs that I like or the one that they mentioned if they mentioned one.

30 Aug 2011 - 00:5968074
Personally I prefer to say thankyou after any comments on my cosplay pages or I feel it looks like I'm being rude and ignoring them. There are some comments I've had where I've gone and replied on one of the other person's costumes and I worry a little that it might look a bit bad on my own page that I don't seem to have replied back... Anyway I know that half of my comments are just my own replies so I know that the number of comments I have doesn't really mean much.

Lets just add the button!
I'm starting to want to thank and reply to people and believe a reply button would be great, like with DeviantArt. They would also know if someone has replied.

I'm not making UK Cosplay friends as fast as I wish on here and I believe this is due to the fact I don't know when people are replying to me or agreeing with a comment I have made on their costume.

Lets just add the button!
