Ok so i have a bit of free time tonight and i must admit i love listening to gaming music, especially ones from the classic games. So i'm just doing my own thing listening to zelda tracks cause oot is my most favourite game of all time. Zelda's lullaby comes on and i feel myself getting so emotional over it.

It sounds so silly admitting that but when i was younger the classic nintendo games are what made my childhood complete. When zelda was brand new to me and i was in all the dungeons and stuff, i always used to try and imagine what was going to happen next. I used to get so involved with the game i could feel myself getting tense during the boss cutscenes. So excited when i finally figured out how to get in hyrule castle :L god i was so stuck for weeks until i finally realised you had to run at an angle . Also the final spiritual stone when heading back to the castle and seeing the dark clouds not knowing what to expect.

Buying new games and playing them back then felt more of an adventure, than now does. I guess because my imagination was unaffected by mundane life. I shared in adventures and the games really were clever at capturing imagination and moods. It is something i will always look back on so fondly and has inspired me to start this little thread. Any gaming memories from the good ol days you wish to discuss? . I honestly believe that reliving fond memories is a good way to get back in touch with your inner child. That part of you that is still prepared to be silly from time to time and live each day as an adventure

I really do miss the days when game developers hated you and you couldn't reasonably expect to finish any game ever. I used to be in awe of people who wrote for games magazines because they always seemed to get way further in games than I ever thought I could. Sometimes now I watch Angry Videogame Nerd rants and see him complaining about dodgy controls and unfair level design and I think, "yeah, that's shit... but we lived with it, dammit!!"

I know it's just the nostalgia talking but those were the days, I tells ya. I still think the Megaman 2 soundtrack is one of the best videogame soundtracks ever.

Games are as good for me as they ever where <3
I guess mainly because, no matter how much I see the same thing, if it's something I like it'll still be as exciting as the first time.

Tehe, I used to get a lot more fustrated over games when I was a child though, of course, they seemed harder to me then!

Oh dont i know it :' i remember with the sega games some of them were ruthless :L and omg yes the frustration made it :L *hand up for smashing a controller beyond use* T T moreso with adventure racing

Hur hur, my dad made me buy my own ps2 and banned me from his when I broke his remote once.

I usually go back and finish games later though, so if there are any I haven't, then they either reeeeally wound me up, or they just weren't that interesting...

Oh yeah, I remember back in the day... I think (not all games, but) more are uninspired than there used to be. (Yes, I know it's hard to come up with something original these days.)

There are a lot of games which are pure nostalgia for me, I actually still play Final Fantasy VII. Everything about the game is as good as it ever was to me. The characters, the story, the soundtrack... And all the fun little mini games you get to indulge yourself in along the way.

The first game I ever completed by myself without help was Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages. This game will always have a strong nostalgia and fondness attached to it for me

I still play all the games that I used to play in my childhood, so it doesn't really make a difference to me XD

No same here i do still plat oot which is my most sentimental game but just the feelings i associate with it. Like my first impressions, the first feel i got with it it wont ever be forgotten

Mariokart 64 and not Super Mariokart?

My childhood days were taken up by New Zealand Story, Bubble Bobble, Pang, Street Fighter 2, Day of the Tentacle, many of the Indiana Jones point and clicky games, Marble Madness, Boy and his Blob, Super Smash TV (damn good game!)...now I've gone all nostalgic!

Yes, yes a million times yes! I still remember sitting for what seemed like an hour waiting for that Knight to ride through the village in the intro just to play Settlers and then my Amiga would crash or something, the red text of dooooooom. (ok having found that youtube video it was only 2.5 mins long but brings back so many memories)

Back when Lionhead (Bullfrog) were good and not releasing half arsed games. Syndicate, Populous, Powermonger, Theme Park, Theme Hospital, Dungeon Keeper, ah the memories

Captain Planet still makes me cry, you had finite amount of lives and I would get all the way to the earth level and die and have to start right from the beginning again!

Kids these days (haha I feel old) get it too easy, "instant save"? what is that? Back in my day you never got to save! Checkpoints? nah restart at the beginning of the level.

I still remember first playing FF7 (not my childhood but still), it was a week before Christmas my brother had given me my Christmas present early because it was such an amazing game and we wrapped up the empty box to put under the tree. It was cold and snowing outside and time did not exist...

@ Mycroftwave: Doh! I thought I might have missed some! Yes, Tomb Raider does rightfully have a place in my list as well. Derping around in Lara's mansion, shooting the butler or locking him in the freezer was reason enough to play the game.

@ Spiritual: Yeah, truth is I never had a SNES! I do remember playing super Mario kart but my first proper console I had any serious time on was my Nintendo 64. So it's the same thing with Lylat Wars! (Besides, you get "Do a barrel roll!" in LW. XD)

Anyway, I did get to play some SNES games, but only occasionally. I think my cousin's had a SNES, and I also had a friend who had a Sega Saturn. (We used to have absolute LOLS on some games... Like there was this one football game where you could foul people and then just run away from the ref. XD)

But yeah, glad a lot of you played some of the same games as I did! I may have to dig out the amiga at some point...

well I was never aloud a games console until I was about 10 or 11. My mum knew I would be a kid who would be playing on one for the whole day xD (because she is asian and she has seen asian kids play on these things for ages I guess)
My first was a game boy advance but I never got into the games I had on that, unlike the games on my ps3. I suppose it's because I'm playing on a 42" LCD tv that does it while the gameboy has a tiny screen lol
