Assuming people's gender is pointless xD Unless you know the person that is.
Crossplayers are getting waaay too good!

From my Kitacon experience:

- Never challenge someone at Rock Band who is a wedding singer.
-If your friends say stop drinking, you REALLY should probably STOP DRINKING.
-Reading the con book will stall your hangover
-Don't be that guy and throw glasses around

That Guy.

Don't be him.

That guy, or girl.

She's the one who trawls the initial crowds asking if anyone is a Con Drunk or a proper raver.

He's the guy who goes to sleep on the couch in the hallway.

She's the one who runs out crying, dragging everyone's night down because of pointless drama.

He's the guy who glomps everyone, then gets angry at you if you tell him off for glomping.

She's the one who steals props and runs off with them because its "cheeky and cute". But then loses it or damages it.

He's the one that talk/shouts when he has something to say.

Don't be that guy/girl.

Another thing
- Take some of your own alcohol if you can. Bar drinks in hotels can be very costy! (Kitacon 3)

I know O.O even with the discount!

- Unexpected things will happen when you cosplay a male character who has a famous yaoi fandom pairing with another character...
- Con merch is always overpriced.
- You never end up eating on the day/s.
- Cosplayers are the nicest people eveer!
- There is nothing worse then hugging a sweaty person.
- You blow all of your money on cons and cosplay through out the year.

- Regardless of what you tell yourself in front of the mirrior, anyone with a soul doesn't care that you're a chubby cosplayer.
- Not drinking alcohol and being able to afford food is never a good thing to rub in hungover con friends' faces.
- There's no ponit planning out what you want to go to beforehand, you'll just get swept up in the awesome.
- Don't ever belive you'll get a turn on Rockband in the games room.
- There is a time-space continuum at the entrance to the pool. You will miss all of your cosplay groups and photoshoots and it will suddenly be 10PM.

- During parties if Scowny wants your T-shirt off you might as well just roll with it.
- Thank your lucky stars if there is a costcutter near the con
- if its a summer con only go to opening/closing ceremonies if you really feel you must! XD

-No matter how many times you promise yourself you'll go to loads of events this con, you never will. Walking to and from places is just too distracting.
-You can sweat from parts of the body you never knew could
-Japanese photographers are perverts and have a pervy sense, however, it is fun as hell is innocently wind them up.

SUPER!
Quote MD_GEIST:
Just a few off the top of my head:
-Everything you buy at a con could probably be found on Amazon for a third of the price.
-Buying a weekend ticket seems cool at the time but then you'll probably see everything and buy everything you wanted to within the first couple of hours on the first day.
-No matter how old you are, getting your photo taken with any fangirl under the age of 16 feels wrong.
-The girls in revealing costumes know they're hot and no, they don't want you.
-You fangasm when you find out your favourite VA/actor is going to be at a con but quickly lose interest when you find out you have to pay to see them.
-The people you came with will soon disappear from sight.

Thank you! You've just summarised my whole experience in a few lines!!!!

What i learned is

- Drink is really expensive at conventions so Lemonade and OJ is a great altertive and saves the coffers in my wallet

- Gophering is hard work but great fun with people you know ^.^

- Practice your poses at home before you go to a con (preferably with a slef timer as sometimes the photos can be done quick)

- and go into the con with a good attitude it will make the experiance for you and those around you much better

26 Aug 2011 - 21:1267775
- ALWAYS bring cash, because if you dont you will have to wait an eternity to reach the cash machine. It could also mean you return home without something you really wanted.

- If you dont book your ticket in advance you could spend HOURSSS in the que complaining that your feet hurt before the day has even started.

- Remember to bring glasses if you wear them! No one wants to spend the whole day squinting. (That was a fun day!)

- Bring shoes that you can actually walk in. (Not huge boots that you end up carrying for half the day whilst you walk in bare feet T_T)

Some of your friends might not want to cosplay. They are being very nice when they offer to hold your bags so you can pose for pictures. Award them appropriately.

You may think you know where your hotel is. At 10:30, after you've been awake 17 hours, you will not. PRINT OUT DIRECTIONS.

It is possible to survive a weekend on two bottles of irn bru, a cup-a-soup and a bacon sandwich, but you will feel like crap afterwards.

The first, such a must. I ALWAYS make sure I find a cash point as soon as I first arrive at the location of the convention (usually by a train station). So many people do it at conventions, and like the Hilton (Kitacon) it charges to take your cash. What a waste!

Next, I know so many people who don't bring the right kind of shoes and only bring cosplay shoes and costumes. I always make sure to pack a hoody or 2 and a couple of board shorts, and usually the one pair of comfy shoes that go with everything (converse, obviously). It's really uncomfortable to wear some cosplays if you're trying to party/dance, and I really try to make sure I change before I eat or party anyway. I don't fancy getting tomato sauce on my bright white cosplay, or red wine from some girl who apparently seems to like to drink and tumble into things.
You honestly can't blame other people if you're wearing your cosplay to a party and it gets ruined by another person accidently. THINK AHEAD!

Nextly, I know what it's like to have to wear glasses 24/7, so I always have to wear them with cosplays. I usually take them off for photoshoots or anything, so that's not a problem. Contact lenses hate my eyes (and yes, even prescription ones, but I may try them out again, it's been a couple of years since I last tried)

Deodorant. Never lend it out to friends of friends, it will not be returned or returned completely empty.

When asking for photo's of larger cosplayers because you genuinely think they look awesome and their cosplay is well constructed and very detailed, be careful how you word where you will be uploading the pictures of them. (had a mix up because I said "I can't wait to put this online" they though I meant in a bad way)

Food - pot noodle is great as there are usually kettles in your room! must pack lots of different food, eating out is expensive.

Don't leave your new DSLR charging on your bed when rooming with friends of friends, they may so a jump roll onto your bed and break it, then not pay for repairs.

Water! keep it on you at all times.

Back up money (just incase)

I have to add about people carrying cash on them.
If you're a Kitacon goer, just to let you know that the Hilton hotel has mini safes for your valuables, so you can keep what cash you don't need in there.

For any other conventions/hotels, I wouldn't know. I just know about Hilton, as I E-mailed them to confirm.

Also, take more money than you think you need. You never know if you spot something you really like and it's so expensive that if you buy it, you're not gonna have enough money for food.
Have a set amount for food/drink and have a set amount for luxuries, I found that works for me so I know to absolutely not break into food/drink money, unless I have a fair bit on the last day.
I've come across too many people that spend all their money on manga/figures etc. and then they've got no money for a meal. ARGH!

Also, if you're staying in a hotel, use the bloody restaurant and put a proper meal down you for gawd sake. Most hotel restaurants don't close until about 11pm, so you have no excuse. I'm sick of seeing people eating pocky, noodles and crisps all weekend, then binging on alcohol, and complaining of feeling flaked out! Take care of yourselves is the most important thing! I'm not complaining about you getting p*ssed though, you're welcome to do that!

From Kitacon Experience

1. Go to the breakfast if you stay in the hilton, DON'T ASK JUST DO IT, its free, and its breakfast, you can't complain or avoid it, it provides me a lot of energy for the day of a convention

2. Make sure you have backup alcohol in your room, cause the drinks are so expensive, such as from Kita, even with that discount, a half pint of vodka and coke cost me about £6.80, that is just :/ so yeah stock up xD

3. Always have cosplay repairing kits in your room, cause one of my cosplays broke down and tore quite a bit, so i had to wear something else for the last day, was disapointed, but oh well, its better to learn from your mistakes ^^

4. Supplies, always keep a spare can of deodorant or whatever in your suitcase, cause chances are your room mate will take and use it all ¬ 3¬

and lastly, a con is to have the best of times, and to not be that guy/girl that people say xD

This thread has summed most things up, adding a couple:

1. The taxi driver will most likely be foreign and try taking you to a completely different hotel than you stated. Speak extremely clearly!!! (Aya - driver tried taking us to the PTI in Coventry city rather than Coventry south!!!)

2. After only a bacon sandwich (that the last bit you end up throwing on the floor because a wasp lands on your hand) and only a couple of energy drinks, having 2 Apple VKs in the evening will make you very drunk and people will think you've had at least 10. (Aya - DAMN WASPS)

3. No matter how hard you plan your weekend, mark out every panel and event you want to go to, no matter how hard you plan every minute of your weekend....IT WILL NOT WORK YOU WILL NEVER DO EVERYTHIIIIIIING.

As has been said or mentioned by a few people:

- Stock up before going .. and though I don't drink, I should by the end of night one look at all those receipts in my pocket of drinks I have bought for others, add them up ... and then make a realising factor that buying everyone drinks is expensive. I should just bury my CC before coming.

- This one I have found more and more and more over time to be true. Relax, don't try to be everywhere, just go with it and have good company as opposed to talking to everyone.

- Really remember we maybe British but if your costume has 20 layers .. it will be hot .. and it should be taken into consideration in advance.

Oh gosh! I saw a few of them!
The most disturbing is the ones you manage to catch behind bins and in distant places directly pointing their camera at you . . . Turning your back on them is highly recommended!

Also, I'd suggest taking 2 suitcases if you're planning to buy stuff at the convention from the dealers room, especially if you only have 1 suitcase and it's pretty much full already.
I've seen so many people take 1 suitcase, buy a bunch of figures or something, then kick and swear at their suitcase when nothing will go back in.
