Things Cons Have Taught You
So, thought it would be amusing to talk about things you've learnt at cons - either going to or from them or actually attending the con.

Here's mine as a result of Ayacon;

- Coventry ring roads are horrid
- Do not use Dr Nightmare on Sat Nav when using said Ring Roads
- However, the nice lady will be nice and get you there straight away!
- It takes FOUR HOURS to find ONE CARPARK in Coventry when using the directions "Go Left then Go Right" IT DOES NOT WORK!! It's go left at lights then go right and go right again. Going left then right leads to NO-WHERE HELPFUL
- Busses have right of way in coventry - even though you were going round the roundabout from the right.
- Eyeliner does not make for a good thing to draw on your palms with if you want it to last
- It's nasty to dance in a three piece suit
- Yet totally possible
- White wig and a snake round your neck results in weird looks, but if you take of the wig and snake no-one cares, even though you still have snake scales on your face and your dressed as a Victorian butler
- Oddly enough, you CAN go round as Kimblee and NOT be mistaken as Michael Jackson.
- However, drunk people will say that you're a wizard
- Showing your nipple is a party trick... Apparently.

from Kita.. (inb4 boooo no ayacon, go away I was at an indian wedding all bloody weekend)..

- Helps to stock up on drinks beforehand
- Look up where local supermarkets are, iphones aren't great satnavs unless you have a friend with you to navigate
- Hanging out at the bar is expensive, find someone who actually makes a fair bit of money and latch onto them or don't drink at the bar.
- If you are one of the latchable people, it helps to get 2-3 drinks at a time, saving you trips to the bar in case you have to get someone a drink. I learned that the second night after I bought a ridiculous amount of drinks for people.
- EAT BREAKFAST!!!! Good gravy most of the time its free. Every morning at kita I'd start off with a bowl of porridge with a banana and coffee, then toast, then eggs and bacon, and maybe more coffee and a muffin to munch on the way back to the hotel room. Cram as much in as possible starting with healthy stuff, it'll be good for you throughout the day.

More t'follow~

Been to 4 cons and I have learned that...

-The more glowsticks you wear, the more popular you become.
-Retro characters are 'awesome!'
-Rather eat at a cheap kebab shop than a overpriced hotel restuant. Atmosphere is more relaxing
-Always be prepared for when someone asks if 'you are the con drunk' while drunk themselves
-The importance of FOOOOOOD
-BRING MY OWN ****ING FOOD!!! Must do at my next con!
-A bikini top under a fairly transparent top is probably the worst thing to wear at a party.
-Friend's iPhone isnt always the best way to get directions.
-When its time to party we will PARTY HARD!!!!

From Ayacon:

- If you wear a military cosplay to a summer convention you will die of heat.
- Bring some fruit with you, as it'll be the only healthy thing you eat all weekend.
- Apparently I can get really horribly drunk and not have a hangover.

-Stop and rest every once in awhile.
-Have a back-up cosplay in case the one you have gets messed up
-Dont forget to eat, and carry around snacks.
-Never run low on water.
-Bring a bag that has a cosplay repair kit of all the things that might help you with props, sewing, ect. XD
-stay away from pervs...

-It's entirely possible to be allergic to conventions. Seriously, I've been ill every con weekend this year, even the ones I didn't flippin' go to!!

-Jill Valentine has a lot of hot male fans.

-If you are bored and looking around for something to do, nobody will ask for your photo. As soon as you have a dozen bags weighing you down and/or you decide to take a long overdue rest because you're pretty sure your boots have filled with blood, you will get requests left right and centre.

-Powerade will become one of the elements essential to staying alive.

-You can get talking to someone over the most random thing. Such as your surname.

- Don't eat, you take up room for booze
- If a fat sweaty guy starts touching you, it means he likes you
- If he offers to show you his collection of My Little Pony doujinshi in his room then it would be rude not to go
- Everyone is powderpuff fresh and smells like a summers day
- Most cosplayers are as dignified as a bowler hat and pipe
- It's a holiday, so you might as well act differently to how you act at home and go a little nuts
- If you shout long and loud enough somebody will give you the attention you deserve
- A little vandalism goes a long way. A few broken bottles in the public areas displays a mischievous side that girls find irresistable

If you believe any of these things then you should be banned from conventions, btw.

If you wear anything at Aya you'll die of heat! It was roasting! That place with the stairs in the circle was a heat trap!

  • Do not take a buster sword on the plane, it will split, the silver paint will get f'd in the a, and it will get severely scuffed and that's with it very well protected.

  • Toy guns are not allowed in your hold luggage on the plane seemingly even if they are crappy kids toys.

  • I only manage to see people I want to get a photo of if they are carrying millions of bags or are eating.

  • Veterans of Masquerades can be just as nervous as a newbie (me)

  • If you go on stage as a group in a Masquerade and plan out how you're going to pose and where you're going to pose, as soon as you get out there you'll forget everything you planned to do. (me again)

  • Post con blues are massively exacerbated by the last night of con party and the amount of drinks consumed.

Just a few off the top of my head:
-Everything you buy at a con could probably be found on Amazon for a third of the price.
-Buying a weekend ticket seems cool at the time but then you'll probably see everything and buy everything you wanted to within the first couple of hours on the first day.
-No matter how old you are, getting your photo taken with any fangirl under the age of 16 feels wrong.
-The girls in revealing costumes know they're hot and no, they don't want you.
-You fangasm when you find out your favourite VA/actor is going to be at a con but quickly lose interest when you find out you have to pay to see them.
-The people you came with will soon disappear from sight.

Remembered some more lol;

-Yell for long enough and you can get people to do whatever you want
-Including people who are in America!
-Tw*thammer is... There is no way to describe the awesomeness of this.

I 100% agree with this completely...

Hello from Northampton!

Based on Ayacon which, incidently, was my first con..

- Shin Cups are epic and prevent hangovers.
- Wig + Doorag = WARM! Even when topless.
- Mind goes blank when in front of a camera.
- Sleeps ruins all well-laid plans to go and see talk x or event y.
- Post con blues are very similar to post festval blues.

I've only been to 3 expos and this is all I have learnt

-I wake up earlier than my alarm because I get over excited
-I can most probably get the stuff i buy cheaper on the internet
-I tend to go home and realize that I wasted my money on something I actually don't need (I do this all the time lol)
-your favourite anime charaters have err, slightly put on a bit of weight
-you find out your people are cosplaying charaters you love on cosplay island, but they end up going on a different day or can't be bothered
-it's always too hot inside the buildings!!! D:

Mine are from things like Amecon/Kita/Aya/Minami:

Regardless of the weather the rest of the weekend, Aya is always boiling on the Sunday - ALWAYS!

There will always be some asses trying to ruin it for everyone else (as mentioned by HBI higher up, idiots smashing loads of glass bottles on the floor and cheering last night)

No matter how hard you try to organise a group, its highly likely you'll be missing one or more people when the event arrives!

After a year or two of cons, there is never enough time to chat to everyone properly =P

You should change out of your cosplay before going to a fancy restraunt afterwards.. or face many weird looks for being the only one in costume in a 10 mile radius!

I've learnt to change out of cosplay if I'm gonna go for dinner anyway. I've split that many things on cosplays. xD

- You never end up doing all the things you wanted
- You never see the people you intended to see
- Unless you're straight, you're not getting laid
- You always come back still single
- You don't eat enough and you just eat pocky to replace every meal
- There are too many fat girls who wear lolita
- There are also too many fat people that wear cosplays that should never have been worn by them
- Also, it's always the fat people that have the most skin on show
- That girl on the dancefloor has some nice moves from behind, then you realise it's a bloke
- No matter how much you try to remember to pack everything for your cosplay, you've always forgotten something
- No matter how much you try to keep your stuff neat and tidy in your hotel room, it's always an organised mess
- Your friends never answer texts or pick up the phone
- Because you can't find your friends and you can't get hold of them, you end up sitting in the lobby like a loner
- There is always one friend that you end up doing everything they want to do, and you never do a single thing you wanted

- Wearing a heavy outfit in summer = BAD idea.
- However much money you bring is not enough!
- Some people don't... Ask for a hug... Or more...
- Girls can be very impressive with their knowledge of video games!
- If you get 100 photos taken, about 3 of them will actually appear on the internet.
- Chatting is great, especially when you meet someone who's a nutcase... In a lovely way. XD
- Energy drinks are WIN.

Yeah, it seemed like such a nice spot to take photos until you realised that. We picked Sunday for the meet too, which turned out to be the hottest day of the lot.

Drink plenty of water and try to snack throughout the day to keep your energy up between meals. Cereal bars are always a good one to bring

23 Aug 2011 - 16:0067418
Heres more

-The main reason to get somewhere to stay is to be able to shower and change your clothes.
-3 days is not enough for a con.
-No matter which cosplay/con related forum you go on, the word 'shower' is ALWAYS mentioned a zillion times.
-No matter how much luggage space you have, it is never enough.
-Always prepare for having your roomate invite friends over to your room at 7am while you are still a zombie from partying hard the night before and somehow they are fully dressed and cheerful (dont wanna imagine this happening when I get my first con hangover) (Kitacon III)
-Going to Subways in cosplay is always a fun idea (Kitacon II)
-Staying up til the party is over and 3 hours after that playing DDR is perfectly fine (Kitacon II)
-Humming video game music (like in Pokemon games) while going to your room with a friend is very fun and funny (Kitacon III)

- book early
- failing that book budget
- when excuse me doesn't work place finger or two an inch below the rib cage and people move subconsciously
- paper wrist bands are not waterproof
- adding a thin layer of pva glue solves this
- people don't have to be a problem
- big, bulky props scare chavs (bonus points for weapons)
- and above all else, when around fangirls WEAR A CUP!!
- oh and unless you don't mind paying out the ass bring your own food or eat off site

Another thing
- Take some of your own alcohol if you can. Bar drinks in hotels can be very costy! (Kitacon 3)
