Basically, there's a lot of them out there, so to help filter through, I am asking your help!

What's the best cons to go to, good experiences, bad experiences etc.

inb4 expo. Also, I've been to kitacon, so tick that one off. For anyone wondering, just go to it and be amazed.

It'll take a bit to outdo kita. But I hear Ame/Aya are pretty good and incredibly popular.

I would say london MCM expo. it's on two time a year and it's on for the full weekend and it is also very popular!

I've been considering to attend Kitacon for awhile, i must do so. I've only been to Expos really so it would be good to try some new events.

Ayacon/Amecon look good but the pricing of on-site accommodation put me off last time.

I'd agree with you on this. I went to kita this year as a first 'con' as opposed to my only previous events being expo. It is a good place to start going to cons, so I encourage you too.

Aya also looks like a good laugh. Anyone else got anything to say on Ayacon? Also any Ame-goers.

I recommend to you any con and Expo. They're all good!

Just avoid the ones with the letters A and L in it.

That does not mean just A and L seperately, they both combine to make something that even satan does not want back down there

Been to Amecon but that was back in 08 and that was my first con. Was my first con but it was fun

Kitacon is my personal favorite as its more relaxing. I prefer hotel cons :3

A friend of mine actually recommended Alcon, so this is confusing. What's bad about it?

Also Minamicon is really close to me. I hear it's quite small, but could be alright?

My personal favourite is Amecon. I love it, though the parties aren't as good as they used to be. It's the only con that I have to go to when it's running, it's one of the big ones of the year. I think I have to buck the trend and say that I prefer it to Kitacon.
The onsite accommodation last year was only £30 a night, which is a lot cheaper than Kitacon and is actually good. Especially if you share a room with someone.

Kitacon is faaaabulous, oh man. I've been to all of them so far and I've loved them. ;w;

And haha, I'm not an Alcon fan either, although my reasons are more to do with FreeSaiyan than the con itself... :'D

I just haven't had chance to go Aya or Ame yet, but I do intend to go to Amecon next year, Fushicon in November I'm planning on going to this year, and October Expo but that's pretty much it, Kitacon is always one of the best cons to go to, I'm still struggling to choose what to do for it = 3=

but apart from that, yeah Kitacon and either Aya/Ame, depends which year you plan on going to are the best 2 choices of conventions

£30 for a room for the night straight up? That's crazy good. What kind of accomodation is it?

Straight up. I shared a room with two other people, so it was only £30 for the entire weekend for me, but that was non-ensuite. If you want ensuite, you do have to pay more. It's just student accommodation, as the con takes place on a uni campus. Though, because of the economy, I don't know if it will be raised for next year.

The registration opens next month (which is really early for Ame)

I personally think it's a lovely little con, it's the first one I ever went to, but it is very hard to get tickets for because it is so small. They sell out very fast.

Can't say how expensive accomodation is though as I stayed off site/at home and got the train in each day since I'm local to it.

I'm putting a vote in for Amecon. The best memories I've had of the cons I've been to over the years have come from Amecon. I honestly can't fault it

Kita is my all time favorite con! Just go - it'll blow your mind! I'm a very big fan of hotel cons so looking forward to fushi in November due to it being in the park inn in northampton which i really like as a venue!

Just back from aya had a really lovely time - venue is more spread out so harder to bump into people but I enjoy cheaper room rates and being able to cook stuff in the kitchens.

Ame has an absolutely gorgeous location but we got lost lots! :S

Yeah, the Park Inn in Northampton was perfect for me as it was near town and there are plenty of great places to eat at good prices and if you forgot something you can try and buy it in town :3 That was the main thing I missed when Kita moved to Birmingham. I missed the kebab shop nearby and I like eating when I feel like it

I prefer hotel cons as the atmosphere is generally more relaxed imo.

Kitacon is hands down my favourite con, such an amazing atmosphere! I much prefer the feel of hotel cons so I'm very much looking forward to FushiCon in November which is being held where the first two Kita's were at the Park Inn in Northampton ^_^.

As for Ayacon and Amecon both are alright but dont have the same relaxed atmosphere as Kitacon but they are still very enjoyable . Just got back from Aya and had a good time and it was by the most organised con I've been to (everything ran smoothly and pretty much on time) the only thing i disliked is the 9.30am kicking out of accomodation this morning D:...

Ayacon was bloody incredible. I made amazing friends, got to hang out with those I met at Kita and I just had the best weekend ever, as a new congoer (first was Kita). I can totally vouch for Aya.

My first Aya this year and it was amazing. Ame last year was great too.

Ayacon was amaaaazing. I've been to Fuyu, Minami, Kita and Aya (in that order!) and Aya was by far up there in the must-go conventions. I've been to various London, Midlands and Bristol Expos along with some smaller London events and I still vouch for Aya.

I really loved Minami, Kita and Fuyu too but I think it's up to you whether you'd like it or not. Minami in my opinion is very very chilled out, it's relaxing. Kita and Fuyu are total party cons. Ayacon for me was a mix of both. So it's really up to you; there's my two cents anyway.

I don't know what Amecon is like (hoping to go next year) but I found accommodation really troublesome with Ayacon because I couldn't afford onsite so had to travel back and forth using taxis. Good thing about the hotel cons I've been to is that there's always a cheaper alternative hotel just around the corner!

Love the fact that University cons are bigger (and cheaper food wise!) making it better for photoshoot locations hurrr

From all this feedback, I'm totally bummed out that I can't go to Kita next year! I'll be in Australia from February to August, so I'm investigating if Ame might be an option, since I just got back from Aya and it was aaaawesommmmmeee <3

I do find accomodation prices a bit off-putting though. I stayed in a Travelodge for Aya with a group which made it far more affordable, but it's quite a bit of hassle and the customer experience wasn't fantastic. £30 for a room at Kita would be great if you're allowed to share it with people? Since Aya rooms were only single occupancy.

(On that note - DID anyone share their Aya rooms? ie. People on floor or whatever? I'm not quite sure how the policy kind of went with all that.)

Since I doubt I will be able to afford Fushi, my first hotel-based con will be Discworld Con next year, which is in the same venue as Kita so should give me a good idea of what to expect!
