How much do you spend??
Hey! Lately I'v decided my main focus is to go to Kitacon but I put everything I'll probably need together and it came up to around £400.
How much do people usually spend for a con?
I put together a list of things I'm gonna need:
Cosplay + Wig
Con price
Hotel Price
Train to Birmingham
Spending Money including food.

(:

That sounds about right, actually. Give or take some depending on the complexity of the cosplay, materials needed, and how soon you book the hotel XD

It completely depends on what kind of person you are with money.

At the last Kita, there were costs for cosplay, hotel, petrol and so forth. On the days themselves, I probably spent somewhere in the region of £30-70 a day on food, but mostly drink. Goddamn that awesome bar.

I think I'd have spent about £500 beforehand, including how much it was for the hotel (£300), and another 200 over the weekend itself.

Roughly half my monthly wage, which is a lot to blow in the space of 4 nights.

But that's just me. I eat a lot and I buy drinks for friends. Hell, I don't get to see them often so I don't mind.

With planning and someone to share costs, you can get by on half of that without a problem.

For Ayacon I spent about £150 for the accomadation, I think about £50 for to con itself. My cosplays probably come to another £100 at least. When I add in spending money that's probably going to total £400-£500. So yeah not at all unreasonable. Gosh I'm glad I didn't have to pay for it all at once!

I am horrendously tight with my money so I tend to spend the minimum number of nights in the hotel, book trains at odd times and take packed lunches with me for extra cheapness. Dunno exactly how much it comes too but I would probably spend less than £200.

I worked out how much I spend on cosplay and that averaged out at £18 per costume. I am the queen of cheapness.

£400 sounds about right, but then I've never worked it out before. I have a hard enough time trying to remember how much I spend on a cosplay because all the little things pile up. However I find ways to cut down where I can, so I share a room, for Kita I stay at etap instead because the hilton isn't worth the price you pay. The last kita I spent less on my room for the weekend then it would have cost me to share a room at the hilton for one night.
Though it depends on where you draw the line for the cost. Do cosplays you've already made count? Do flights home count if you were already planning on going home?

I tend to do things on the cheap, so I can usually cut things down to £300ish, more if I'm feeling generous. Its kinda scary seeing it written down in a bulk sum, I agree with the previous posters in that I'm glad I don't have to pay for it all in one go ^^

That besides, I don't really have any other hobbies, so add up what most people spend on other things, and I think we come off pretty lightly! And cons are totally worth the cost and fuss they cause

08 Aug 2011 - 18:5465890
As less as I can xP But some things cost more than others so it depends what's in a costume, some items are quite hard to find or are more pricey ^^

At the risk of sounding cheesy, I'm happy when those around me are happy.

My last con came to about, £270, with the cost of cosplay, hotel, and spending money
I usually find a good deal on a cosplay then when it arrives it adjust it alot to make it look better, so that saves alot of money for me

Most of my money tends to go on my cosplays (£100-£200 each). I tend to not eat much at cons or have enough to buy merch ^^'
I book my train tickets in advance to get them cheaper.

I never thought about staying at a cheaper hotel as it is expensive, I think ill check it ou

For a 3-day con I roughly spend...

Travel - £30
Registration - £40
Hotel - £120
Food - £50

Eating and sleeping well are both important to me, but I hardly drink and don't care about merch so I save money in those areas instead.

Costume costs really vary. My costume costs range from £30 to £200, but I don't always make new costumes for cons.

To save money try looking for train deals well ahead (places like megatrain.com are amazing) and be prepared to spend some time finding a cheap hotel. Booking early always helps.

Also, if you're sharing costs, get everybody to pay up as soon as you book something. That way if they pull out last minute they can find their own replacement rather than you saddled with £300 worth of hotel rooms that need filling with people!

It's worth it. From what I was told, the hilton had small rooms and so all you pay for is the convenience of being able to nip up to your room in 5 five minutes. But the etap (and a load of other hotels) are a 10 minute walk away (max.) three of us shared a room (a three person room) for £30 for the entire weekend.
Though it will cost to get a taxi back at night, if you bundle in with some other people going to the same complex, it'll only cost you a couple of quid each.

Last Kitacon I spent about £600 on Food, Drink, Hotel and merch. Also spent about £200 on cosplay and £50 on travel. Expensive weekend but I was tanking it away and was pretty much worth it.

09 Aug 2011 - 00:3065948
For the upcoming Aya my costs are:

Planes, trains and automobiles - £130
Accommodation - £188
Cosplays - £100-200
A great con I'll never forget - Priceless

All in all £518 and then I'll have my actual costs at Aya such as food and fermented fruit beverages and tat, can't forget the tat.

I always end up spending ridiculous amounts before the con D:

Of course there's con reg, then acommodation, travel, spending money, emergency money, money for food/drink, etc... Not to mention cosplays!

My cosplay for Aya has already run me quite a bit over £450 now and it isn't even finished yet! ;A; thankfully my partner paid for the room for both of us so that's off my conscience and a friend is driving us so we're just splitting petrol costs...

If I were in the normal situation though I would imagine that this Ayacon would have run me into the £800 or so mark...

I'll do one for Aya and one for Kita

Aya:
Costumes - including wigs and props: £180
Hotel + hotel parking: £60.50
Petrol: TBC. I'll go about £17.50. That's two refills between the four of us.
Ticket: £45
Spending Money: Errr whatever I have left.

TOTAL: £303

Kita IV:
Costumes: Gyarados - cost will be divided over 5 of us, so should work out to being a tenner each probs.
Gakupo Depends on the variation, though I'm prolly going with Duke Venomania version. I'm allowing £50 - £100
Ezio: Allowing £100 - £150
Xion: Allowing £100 - for the red leather jacket
Game of Thrones costume: Allowing £100. If I can't make my mind up I may go as the throne lol
Xianghua: £50, and only if I lose weight
Hotel + Parking: £85 a night, staying four nights, £340, divided by two, £170.
Petrol: TBC
Ticket: £45
Spending Money: What I have left (LOL)

Total: £725.... With top estimates. Although I'm not fully decided on all my costumes.
