Butterfly-Goddess Joined: 07 Mar 2010 Posts: 149	Cosplays that have given you the most trouble Basically what the title says XD It can be from Cosplays you have had problem, after problem, after problem making, or if you've ever bought a cosplay online and it was totally wrong in size, colour, price, yada-yada. It can even be from bad experiances that you encountered through the costume, say like having a bad time at a con, or rude comments... For example: For me, my sob story is... gets a violin out and starts playing It's my Utena Tenjou cosplay. Basically, I almost had to make the cosplay 3 times. Here it goes: The first time, because the fabric that I thought was really nice, felt totally wrong and was really thick and bulky when the outfit was finished. And I spent HOURS AND HOURS sewing it. I hand stitched it in certain places like the collar and the piping around the edge of the blazer. I even hand stitched the piping to the ribbon to make my own flanged cord. 5 metres of the stuff! But in the end, that had to be scrapped. I literally had to tear the cord from the blazer, and rip off the buttons. It was a little heart breaking. The next time I made it (out of spare fabric that a friend gave me) I ran out of fabric half way through. But my friend said that the shop didn't sell the fabric anymore. (insert the F word here) The third time, he had bought me a replacement fabric (which was really kind of him ^^), but I had to turn my room up side down looking for a paticular pattern piece which was missing from my packet...I found it. But a week later, the yound gentleman comes running to me saying "I FOUND THE FABRIC YOU WERE LOOKING FOR!" hands me the fabric I was so relieved not having to make the outfit a whole third time. I'm suprised I haven't chucked the Utena idea out the window by now XD So cosplayers, I'm sure we've all been there at some point XD Hopefully not as heartaching and annoying as my problem I hope. And then, as if like clockwork, my dog pissed on the costume THE DAY BEFORE THE EXPO. I was fuming, I tried washing it out, but it didn't come out. So I remade the costume hurredly by painting it all instead. It looked shocking >.< All in all it took me 4 hours to remake. That dog is staying out of my room for GOOD! __________________

D: (sorry no photos of it on her but never mind lol) anyways it was like a month till expo and I was trying to find the winter outfit but every site was sold out so I got a costume which looks similar from an anime called toheart 2 or something like that XD the wig was also really difficult to find because loads to wigs stores don't normally sell 40" blue wigs which goes right down to your knees. even cosplay stores across the internet never sold any luckyly I found one in some fancy dress website but in the end, I looked nothing like konata izumi from lucky star lol XD __________________ ammersXamphetamine

The hammer's were a pain in the butt to start with, the balls kept falling off the sticks no matter what I stuck them on with and then after they were finally painted the cats decided that it would be most fun if they batted them...fur and smudged paint... Then there was the costume. I ordered it first of all as I didn't have the free time to make it before the event I wanted to wear it to. When it arrived the quality was terrible and it was the wrong damn colour.I wore it anyway...unhappily XD This led to me then having to wait for some free time in order to re-make the whole thing myself...so big waste of money on the commisioned one there. When I had finally re-made it I realised that I had made the top so it fastened on the wrong side...another re-make later and it is finally finished. Thus the cosplay that has caused me the most trouble and cost me the most money...urgh XD

But you gotta be so careful when it comes to commissioned cosplays. I've never bought a cosplay online before, but I recently bought an FMA uniform (because I could never make it lol) a week ago (and obviously still waiting for it) so I'm a little nervous of how good it's going to be. I always look at feedback and the quality of photos when looking at cosplays, but sometimes you can't win, and it sucks! XD

And don't worry about the quote thingy ^^ I make loads of mistakes with my spelling is ashamed* I hope the FMA uniform will turn out ok. I really wanted it a dark blue so it was more "Brotherhood" (because I'll be cosplay Olivier Armstrong XD) I will keep an eye out for good decent cosplay shops on ebay haha! I think a large part of Ruby Moon was that it was my second cosplay and I really needed my mum there to help me along. Unfortunately we really didn't see eye to eye on a lot of it (mainly because I wanted the impossible) and so we argued a lot on it. We finished it and I loved it. I look back and it's got to be my worst cosplay (it really isn't very good), but I loved wearing it at the time, so I really don't care. I loved it at the time and I enjoyed wearing it, which made making it worth it and all the time and money that went into it. Ranmao, well, it had been over a year and a half since I'd last even seen a sewing machine. I tried to leap straight in there and make the costume in three days (including finding a styling a wig). Needless to say that it didn't go as smoothly as I'd imagined. Though the actually outfit when smooth enough wear it and keep it as it is through three wears, the wig...well that went baaaaaaaaadly. I wasted an entire day looking for wig with no luck, which left me the day before expo with no wig at all. I had to improvise and style my hair in the buns and use wool for her plaits. Unfortunately that left me without the rest of the hair style and the green of my hair colour poking through. :Sigh: When I actually got a wig for Ame, I tried to create the parting by adding hair and a tutorial. It didn't go very well. One vital piece of equipment didn't arrive on time, so I had to use my straighteners instead almost damaging them forever. Then the tutorial wasn't very clear on some points and I ended up adding way to much. It looked hideous. A huge amount of these horrible hair extensions added onto the back of this nice wig. I freaked out and my mum had to come in and calm me down (this was the night be ame) quite harshly. We managed to get something sorted, but to this day I'm not happy with the wig. My hair wouldn't straighten or spike up, and the spray on hair colour was very bad too, it got all over the long white jacket I had. The Jacket's collar was akward and didn't sit properly. The rosy cheek things fell off and didn't stick all that well. My tail I made in about 5 minutes out of cardboard and actually looked really good however it did rip off. AND I forgot my Knuckle Spike props. All in all, I need to; Get the right ears Get a spiky red/crimson wig re-do the jacket Think about the rosy cheek things a little harder However, I now know how to make a tail which looks more akin to the anime than a floppy standard furrie tail. I'm sorry to hear you and your mum didn't see eye to eye. Mums can only do there best, I'm afraid. And I'm sorry to hear about the wig too. But still, the wig in your cosplay pictures looked good But when it boils down to it, if you yourself don't like the wig, no amount of nice comments can make you feel better about it. I had the same issue with my Megurine Luka wig. Luckily I managed to sell the damn thing. I was glad to see the back of it! X'D

It gives a nice shiny effect which somehow I think would suit the fins ^^ But I may be wrong. As for the keyblade, have you tried space foam? It's really light, but very good for carving. It's been nothing but bad news for me with every cosplay I've used it in. With things like that, I try and stick to foam and modeling putty from now on! XD Do you use interfacing for your clothes? Depending on the thickness, it can give great shape to fabric ^^

I finished my Sophia Esteed outfit the night before expo, and left it folded up downstairs, but my dog apparently wanted a different bed, so she dragged it down from the table onto the floor and slept on it. She was in season so it was completely unsalvageable ;__; As for current troubles, making Harley Quinn's bodysuit is slowly destroying my soul. Working with lycra suuuuuucks. HOW DO COSPLAY.

I'm very lucky that it didn't put my mum off cosplays and we still enjoy conversations, and she's happy to give advice where needed, or an extra pair of hands when I don't have enough. The next one we worked on we pretty much split 50/50 and it remains one of my favourites, despite not being one of my best. After not wearing/seeing the wig for 6 months, when I came back to try and fix it, I didn't hate it quite so much and decided that there wasn't anything I could fix without completely redoing the wig. I didn't hate it quite enough to redo it, but I didn't like it enough to actually be happy with it. XD Do you use interfacing for your clothes? Depending on the thickness, it can give great shape to fabric ^^ I used it for the collar, but it just didn't sit right. Jeff_Kamiki_Jurai Joined: 15 Aug 2008 Posts: 233	My Koakuma cosplay. First time I ever had to use the cosplay repair area as my wings kept going slanted or worse.. fell off. XD The head wings also kept falling infront of my face. That and the skirt was unraveling and disintigrating around me. The machine REALLY didn't like that fabric... to be fair... Neither did I. I lost sleep fixing it. It was in general a very irritating cosplay... Never again shall I rely on rushed handsewing to hold a cosplay together... <_< __________________
