London Anime Con 2011
I'm looking forward to this, will be my seconed time Cosplaying, anyone else going to it? I'll be going as Ellis from L4D2 again but am working on Scout from TF2, so if I get that done in time I might goes as him. What is anyone else going as?

>Call event "London Anime Con"
>say your cosplaying as two videogame characters from a western developer

I'm not going to it as last time I went it was really boring. The only good thing about it is WOTA London, but I'm not even sure If I'll be able to go to that sadly.

I was unsure on whether to go to it, would you not recommend it Charlotte-chan?

Spending a tenner wroth of looking at about 9 stalls mostly selling overpriced second hand or fake merch, a bunch of prats on stage being bigger prats and sitting around doing sod all. Tis time and money well wasted.

The only good thing was WOTA and the company of being with friends.

The better thing is not going and saving your dosh on something else.

Unless there is alot of events going on that your interested in, I wouldn't suggest going as it's pretty boring and the place it's held in isn't the nicest. Though if you like a good anime party I would recommend going just for the evening for the Wota London party. Wota is epic and I would go to every one of their parties if I could =] Also tickets are cheaper after 8. ^^

When last year did not injoy the event one bit, I also found it very boring spent 90% of the con sitting in the outside area with my friends which I could do for free anywhere, also found it poorly organized I would not recommend this con to anyone.

Isn't it run by Anime League? I thought the general consensus was to avoid their events like the plague? XD

Oh right O.O well its a good thing im not going anymore! XD Thanks for the heads up guys, what would you lot recomend to save for then? Perhaps the one you look forward to most?

Ah london Anime con.....

1. Its not a con! Its just a bunch of sad people trying to make a con but cant do it because they cant find their way out of paper bags.

2. They have been banned from most events around the place so they try and make their own and FAIL

3. Its a waste of money I would rather watch paint dry. Lol!

But some people go for the fun, some go to see friends. Id say just meet up with your friend and go to a park, drink have fun and just be happy.

This thread caused me to do that thing when you have drink in your mouth and try to stifle laughter, resulting in aforementioned drink to try to make a break for freedom via your nose.

As a result, all I can smell now is coffee. But if every time I smell coffee in future causes me to remember this thread, it isn't a bad thing to endure.

In response, yeah, it's AL. Don't expect greatness, you'll still be waiting after the world's ended. This is the "organisation" who have to hijack other people's webpages just to get people to attend their events.

You forgot about the relentless forum and Facebook spam, as well as the creating drama for other people.

Anyway, just remember; You can't spell fail without AL.

No offence and all but everyone is right to their own opinion, first time i went by self i had fun and met new ppl, and even got few mates to come too.
Though u seriously have to join events/gaming section or watch them since pretty funny alot the time.
= dont do any of those i agree its boring and you may as well stay home.

downside stolls seriously epic faillll only 9-12= agree with

plus side they have guests which are pretty famous and bands like jrock/jpop.

though its more of a clubbing feel to it in a way and +18 thing to be honest

p.s can i ask what u mean by anime league banned at cons o.o i know some which go to mcm <.< lac isnt big but hey dont go hating on them lol.

Ooo and last of all= each con has there plus sides and downsides so think about it thanks

Can I ask, what other conventions have you been to?

I've not been to LAC but I've never really heard a good reason to either. Only things I've really heard are negative. The only positive thing I've ever heard is, "It's the company that makes it good." Which is fine, but doesn't sell a convention to me.

I think when they said AL has been banned at events, they mean Mike Towers specifically who has at least been banned from any events run by the MCM Expo people as far as I know.

Ahh well first was Mcm been to 3-4 so far, Hyper Japan last year, London film con (thattt was boring lol went twice cause of mates 2nd time).
And LAC (anime league) went last year and this year so this be 2nd time.

Oooo maybe not sure on that i just know he's been inside mcm so not banned , maybe joining mcm team no idea (as for anime league staff i know ppl who worked last year for mcm).

yeah i hear alot negative and fair play i just think bit silly cause the con has its plus and downsides= hell every con does even large ones.

as for lac = ppl go to it so obviously ppl like it if keep going to them like i said they prob join in lol thats why fun for some- unlike mcm which u can do crap all and enjoy self

I just know from my exp- first time i went i knew no1 and did nothing but stand about, this time i joined in events, watched some (they were funny), and joined gaming section/tournies.

after did all that met ppl and just chilld with them or dance since its more clubbing around 7pm with the music/djs/bands= some are pretty good and popular so give some credit on thattt.

No.

LAC is trash, run by trash. I wouldn't give anything Mike Towers is related to my time, my support, or my pocket lint. He breaks advertising laws with glee (and bribes others to do the same when he becomes the focus of everyone's disapproval), takes advantages of people's generosity, slanders and libels other events, his event encourages a great deal of inappropriate behaviour, the list goes on and on.

Also....

NO EVENT ORGANISER SHOULD HAVE ONE OF THE BIGGEST PAGES ON ENCYCLOPAEDIA DRAMATICA DEDICATED TO THEM. And the only UK organiser that does is Towers.

And he is banned from MCM events. If he's still attending, he's defying the rules of something else.

LiteDuo, perhaps I should point out a subtle difference. LAC is London Anime CON. Mcm Expo is an EXPO. There are large differences between the two, if you want Expo to have all the things LAC does (events blahblahblah) then you might as well go to a proper well managed con and have your eyes opened.

I don't understand why you're telling us off for hating on LAC, it's ok isn't it? I mean, Towers insults Expo and other events whenever he can, he's made so many digs lately so it must be the cool thing lately to diss other events right?

Xaereal, I completely forgot about that thread on MCM.

I really hate how Towers started this thing by pissing on the work of the true LAC.

No, I mean a proper animé convention. Amecon, Ayacon, Kitacon, Minamicon etc. Can't really judge unless you do that.

He's definitely been banned from anything MCM related.

I'm sorry, I'm generally quite neutral about the events themselves, but everything you've described thus far just sounds like a poorly organised piece of garbage and I'm trying to be open minded. I have friends that go, mostly the ones that get in free, and they enjoy hanging out with their friends in cosplay, but I've not heard a single person who isn't an AL lackie say that it's a great con.

I was kinda hoping you'd enlighten me.

LOL

I went to the Anime League Club (same people that run London Anime Con) once just to see what the bad reputation was about first hand. Was utter rubbish to sum it up. I spent most of the day elsewhere in London with a friend instead.
I have attended London MCM Expo, London Film and Comic Con, Japanese Arts Festival, Bunkasai, The Grand Cosplay Ball, Ayacon, Kitacon and Amecon. So I have been to enough events/cons to compare it to.

You know I think someone made a T-shirt of that phrase.

Also I've been to enough good events and cons as well so I know where I'd rather be.
