Costume style question
I'll be making this costume soon and plan to do my usual thing of buying an existing pattern and modifying it accordingly. The costume looks semi-historical, so that's my starting point, but I'm hopeless at identifying the fashion of different eras (my first thought was French Regency, but a Google image search suggests otherwise). Anyone got any ideas? Baroque maybe?

ok from what i can tell its looks kind of like a little boys 19th century style sailor suit but a lot of styling has go into the desgin, so there not much sailor left.

if you ask me it looks like a mixshare of many different ages of clothes such as
the shoes are from the 18th Century.
there men shoes
http://www.geocities.com/revwarcostume/shoes.html

he is wearing victorian boys pants/Knickers some time could breeches.
they have a pall string at the bottom of them and are worn with Stockings some time long socks
http://www.ushist.com/wardrobe/boys_1800s_clothing/lfhp_boys_victorian_trousers_pants_drawers_civil-war.htm

and the shirt is a 18th century cotton shirt as is baggy at the shoulders and get slimmer near the wrist and has frills on both the collar and sleeves.

i though this web site may be some help may not be?

i hope this was some help to you, i dont know loads about the history of clothes but i know another XD

Sorry I can't really help you with the style but....omg omg omg you're cosplaying Machi! You know how happy this makes me? I was going to cosplay him, but decided on Wocky instead (I know, what a change!) but now someone else is doing him I'm very happy. XD When are you planning it for?

Hehe, I'm not actually doing Machi myself - I'm making it for my friend, and I'll be doing Lamiroir. We're planning to wear these to the Cosplay Ball in November.

I loved Wocky's design, by the way - looking forward to seeing your costume!

Even better! I've not seen a Lamiroir and Machi duo in the UK ever! O.O I'll definetly look out for you if I end up going to the ball (quite likely!) ^_^

I should'nt worry to much about buying a perticular period pattern for this outfit, it is farly simple to alter with a modern style pattern.
For the shirt i recommend looking through Victorian patterns or even Victorian nightwear.
As for the trousers just get any normal trosuer pattern and alter it by cutting them abit shorter and adding the cute petal-shapes : 3

I look forward to seeing this completed! its totally cute!
