I'm cosplaying Princess Zelda from Wind Waker in October, and shockingly it's the first time I've ever done anything which requires something I don't sew (her belt, head piece and chest armour... thing).

The thing is I have no idea how to go about it! The general consensus for this sort of thing is craft foam, which I am very pleased with, but I was wondering what is the best thing to 'seal' or finish it with? To give it a smooth finish and so I can paint it. I'm desperate to make it look as perfect as possible but I'm really stuck. This is probably a stupid question, but any help is appreciated!

2. I've sealed craft foam with PVA glue before. A coating of PVA glue and I had no issue painting on it ^_^ Test it on a small sample beforehand though as I know different foams react with things differently!

Sorry to hijack the thread but anyone know any good places to buy craft foam in big sheets???

How big and how soon do you need it? (been planning to stock it at my shop just haven't got around to doing it yet)

The camping mats in Poundland are thte same material as craft foam but they're thicker (and softer I think, kind of squishy) than regular craft foam, but you might want to check it out?

Agreeing with Sjbonnar on this one! Ive used PVA glue to seal foam lots of times and never had any problems =) As pointed out just make sure to do a test beforehand.



If you happen to have a Hobbycraft store near you they sell it in there in A3 sized sheets in various colours, it was about 79p a sheet when I got mine a few weeks back =)

You should be able to find it online though, I used to buy mine from here http://www.fredaldous.co.uk/search.cgi?action=search&query=foam&level2_id=269 before I found Hobbycraft =) Just depends on which size you need I guess, Ive never been able to find it bigger than A3 myself.

Or buy it from Pez xP Ive also known a couple of people to buy camping mats and cut them up too but obviously they weren't designed for that use so will be a bit different to actual 'craft foam' hope this helps =)

A3 is the largest I've seen and you can get it from Dunelm Mill, there's one in Warrington on Parker Street, WA1 1LT, it'd be worth checking out as fredaldous is a bit expensive for postage and the cost per sheet is much the same.

Ah yeah sorry, I actually bought a whole pile from Fred Aldous so that's where I got the A3 I currently have. I just thought I had seen A3 in the one here but now that I think about it I maybe have only seen A4. Sorry about that. You could try hobbycraft as MissColzyChan suggested as there is one in Alban Retail Park, Hawleys Lane.

Also fred aldous isn't too rediculously priced if you're buying in bulk. For 20 sheets it comes to £19.80 (99p per item) with £2.80 delivery so only £1.13 for a sheet. It seems to be £2.80 delivery for however many up to 31 sheets which you then get free P&P.
