OK, so there are a few cosplays i want to make that have really poofy skirts and which therefore need petticoats or underskirts with TONNES of volume.

i want to know how i can turn my own cosplays into these fooking amazing skirts full of frilly, poofy goodness so here are some references! ^_^

So that's the kind of thing i'm after. is there anyone who knows the method as to how to make those underskirts or has anyone found a link before to a tutorial about the secret to getting so much volume out of some netting?

i once tryed a dress on and it poofed out LOADDSS so i too a look to see what did it, and it was basicaly a silk petty coat with LOADS of netting around it, it looks so cute to ^_^
but i didnt get the dress as i was £2 short TT_TT

You need lots of netting! Have a look at my Rozaline dress, it's probably the effect you want (just not as long). Basically what I did was get about 5 meters of netting, fold it in 3 so I had a narror strip about 5 meters long, and then pleat it (fold it on itself and then back) the entire length. Next, take a lengh of elastic, stretch it, and pin the pleated netting onto the elastic when stretched out. Sew the two together and cut the fold at the bottom, so you end up with three seperate layers in your petticoat.

I needed two those to make Rozy's dress as large as I needed it. It's quite fiddly pinning onto elastic, while keeping the elastic streched, and I pinned myself so many times, so their may be a better way of doing it. But that's what I did

I have to achieve the poofiness for my Sailor Jupiter skirt, so I'll be using green netting, just a much short layer of it than my actual overskirt.

Pinning elastic is a pain in the butt. Big time. When I've done it, I found that I started using my teeth as a third hand to keep it stretched.
The best thing I found is to pin the elastic to a sturdy item, like a sofa or a foot stool. Or ask a family member to hold the end while you pin. Less time consuming, and less chance of doing irreversable damage to furniture.

Hmm I've never thought of doing that to a bit of elastic! I might try that sometime! I bet it gives a gorgeous uber ruffled effect!

I would suggest to make a petticoat using dress lining (dirt cheap). Make the skirt with a bit of elastic at the top, it doesn't have to be neat then simply getting loads of netting (cut to about 15cm wide) and just sew it to the bottom of the skirt gathering it along the way and just keep going until you run out! The best bit is you can re-use it cos you just wear it under the next dress or skirt that comes along!
