Cosplay Nazis?
Hey guys, while drifiting through 'tintnernet, someone gave me a wesbite which was somewhat... Shocking... And laughable.

www.antiwc.net/

Some of you may have seen/heard of the site already. Now I don't really want this to turn into a "Should westerners be allowed to cosplay?" or "Can cosplaying be disrespectful?" Because we all know what the answers to those two questions would be.

I'm thinking more of... "How f*$@ing unglued must this guy be?" and "Have you ever had an experience of elitist cosplayers etc.?" or maybe the slightly more serious "Do you think we'll see more of these nutjobs in the future?"

I'm wanting just general discussion more than anything else.

(Oh yes, in those forums, I have a PRETTY strong hunch all the accounts are owned by the same person.)

I love how he's claiming its an "Anti-raceism" movement when they are infact being raceist themselves ¬_¬

Before clicking on the link I knew who we are talking about.

Apparently this is the same guy who makes a hobby (more like an obsession) of creating extremely hateful videos on youtube and bashing any non-Asian cosplayer. He is likely to be the most notorious cosplay troll on the net. Believe me, I saw some of his videos and they are without a doubt some of the most nastiest ones I have ever seen ><

Basically, he is an jerk who doesnt understand what cosplay really is about, just uses it an excuse for hatred.

I'd like to bring up this "who not have the right facial & body form" ... Most anime characters have pretty damn generic facial shapes, they rarely have any real distinguishing features that force them into say western or eastern, although we know they are from eastern origin there is, more often than not, nothing to suggest that in their character designs.
Also, to say it's racist and that we are attempting to impersonate Asians.. god don't get me started..

AND "WE created cosplay" Ummm no, I'm pretty sure cosplay originated in America with Star Trek and other Sci-Fi fans.. so NO. just no.

This site must be a wind up, or something and if it's not then it has to be of limited support - it's an absurd argument.

06 Jun 2011 - 17:3258820
I believe cosplay did originate from a Sci-Fi convention in America. Im sure I came across that when I was researching cosplay for a college project.

But seriously, I believe that there is a huge difference between impersonating a fictional character and a race.

Wow, talk about Adolf Hitler ¬_¬ Next they'll be gathering up all the Westerners and such who are "not of a pure breed". I understand that some people have different views about who should cosplay who, but it doesn't give them the right to be so harsh about it and tell someone that they are not allowed to do it because they are not "Asian". It's like people who say that bigger people shouldn't cosplay skinny characters, it's b*llocks (pardon my Francais). And so are those little fascists that agree with the views of that sordid little group (however much of a wind up it is). Whoever they are, they really need to get into the real world and realise cosplay is an Art and not a privilege.

06 Jun 2011 - 17:5858827
Lol, is this the guy/girl that trolls Cosplay.com? Nobody takes them seriously - most laugh at them because it's just so absurd.

And yes, Aerblade; the act of 'dressing up' for fun originated in the United States. It started with Halloween and yes, I do believe that cosplay as we know it today originated in Star Trek conventions (but don't quote me on that). Japan just made it famous because the west tends to highlight aspects of Japan that are a little 'out there'.

On Japan-oriented forums, you always get a pet troll; I've seen them tell westerners that we shouldn't speak 'their' language, that we shouldn't visit 'their' country, and certainly shouldn't live there. Makes me wonder if it's all the same person lol. And I'm pretty sure that behind the keyboard, it's actually a balding white guy just wanting to stir some drama.

The only thing you can do with trolls, people, is laugh at them then move on. Please don't get wound up over this guy; it's exactly what they want.

Cosplay is a western creation, it's just the Japanese named it cosplay. It comes from "Costume Play" which are western words I believe

Also, last time I checked I've not done a lot of Japanese characters. I've cosplayed; a Hyrlian, a portugese, a frenchmen, a... Celesiun (Fai D. Flowright), a... remnant of Sephiroth, who's technically an alien, a... Reno whereever he's from, a... Midgarian? (Cloud), a goddess, someone from the rock village - which isn't on planet Earth, and a big pink blooby thing.

I've cosplayed a whopping 3 Japanese people; Anri, yuki's brother (can't remember his name still) and Dark Mousey.

And, with my next three cosplays, only one is Japanese (Fuma Kotaro). The other two... Well, one's a snake man, and I don't think Kimblee is Japanese...

EDIT: If they say that it's racist for us to cosplay Japanese characters, then they shouldn't cosplay western ones. And I don't mean all Asians, I just mean those who think that western cosplayers shouldn't cosplay for this reason.

Oh, this guy again, he pops up every few months on gaia, last time he was laughed out of the site. Was quite funny watching him say something like "Westeners cosplaying is racist because anime characters are based on asians and that they invented it." I pointed out to him that I'm pretty sure westeners have been wareing costumes since sci-fi was invented and a friend of mine may have poor petrol on the fire.

He pops up on Youtube and cosplay.com alot and posts the same annoying facts over and over and over again.

Rather funny as he is trying to get all of Asia against us but almost everything I saw that he writes is in English. Its unlikely that someone of a supposedly 'pure', non-Western race to understand so much English. Noticed on that forum that someone asked why there are not many members and he explained about the 'language barrier' :/ what?

But there are plently of anime that clearly had Westeners/Western styled settings. Like...Katekyo Hitman Reborn (most characters are of Italian decenace), Hetalia, Code Geass, Scrapped Princess, Fullmetal Alchemist just to name a few.

I thought that about Kuroshitsuji as well, seeing that it's mostly based around London XD With the exception of Lau and Ranmao (and any other characters I may be forgetting).

Plus didn't anime originally take inspiration from Disney?
I could be getting my facts wrong...

Lol. Website = engrish much?

Agni and Soma too. They're Indian. But that's pretty much it. It's set in Britain. (and is it round London? I known Ciel has a London manor, but I thought his main house was in the country).

D.Gray-man too. In fact, Japan and the Japanese don't really exist anymore, and there are only a handful of Asians (The Bookman, Linali and Komui Lee are the only ones I can think of)

Oh yes you're right, but would it be safer to say Britain for most? XD

I managed to keep in the laughter until 'The psycho racist western cosplayers'.
I may change my name to 'Psycho Racist Western Cosplayer'.

That's hysterical.

Anyone else noticed how he is suggesting that ALL PEOPLE FROM ALL ASIAN COUNTRIES LOOK THE SAME?

Haha, must say I didn't expect so much response so quickly! But yes, as some of you pointed out he is indeed a well-known troll amongst cospay forums and gaiaonline. (Which reminds me, I have an account on there if ya wish to add me.)

I've talked to some people who claimed to have seen his cosplays in real life or in photos or something, apparantly he is indeed asian, he also is indeed fugly and a terrible cosplayer.

But like I mentioned before, do we think we're going to see more people like this in the future? I ask this for two reasons; firstly with cosplay becoming more and more popular, are we inevitably going to attract more weirdos? Also I have heard cosplaying in Japan is quite different to Europe/America.

Are there Japanese people who think we don't cosplay properly, for instance?

... Oh yeah, glad I made some people laugh with this, by the way!

Point. I'm pretty sure they don't.

I believe that this person was probably born in the West, and just wants to feel important. Cause, surely, that website wouldn't be in English, but available in Asian languages instead.

Well, weirdos are often much cooler than normal people, so nothing wrong with that.
If you mean 'attract weirdos' as in 'attract hate comments from weirdos', then there's not much we can do bar look more awesome than then.

Quote Han Hyuga:

Well, I'm sure there are plenty of gamers out there who don't think I game correctly, or plenty of authors who would say I didn't write correctly.
It's not hurting anyone, is it?
If your heart's in it and you're having fun, no prob Bob.

Possibly ^^ But the English seems a bit off to me. Such as the "Cosplay are.." bit :/

It's pretty ironic, seeing as how he himself is Indonesian and, if anything, looks African-American.

He also makes generalisations towards Westerners too >,< and claims that Asia is far superior in every possible way.

But cosplay racism is silly! I have seen Asians cosplay from cartoons and comics on the net and I see it as a way of expressing that they enjoy western comics and animation and that makes me happy to know that cultures are being shared.
