Amecon 07 Anime Disco
To be honest I didn't think that the Amecon 07 anime disco (sat) was very good compared with last year. The music that was played was well, samey most of the way through... and for all the difference it made, I maight as well have been in an English club than in a disco celebrating anime music and japanese culture.

The DJs were ok if you are into that kind of music, but it wasn't really untill the last 30 odd mins that they played the a) really popular stuff b) the stuff that doesn't sound the same (hip hop ect come on... not even much rap!)

I also thought that the balance was wrong for alot of the songs and that the base was too high.

To be honest, I don't want them back next year with that kind of selection. My friends and I were dissappointed, apart from at the end.

And Oh god... people were not jumping around like idiots to a slower song and they cut it short?

That was so sad ; ; Agree disagree? Discuss ^^

EDIT: A little harsh I know ~ But its in typical rant fashion X3
However they did play some good songs ^^;; I just preferred '06 's selection.

well there is one idea....when the convention for 08 is near....they should make a topic where you can give ideas for music to play at the disco....and no djs...it takes the fun out of the music

Choco and I are taking aboard everyone's criticism and praise for the event and will alter things accordingly.

I'm sorry that you didn't like this year's party as much as last years

I can assure you that as for hip hop, apart from a 3 song ladies R'n'B section in the middle of the party (one of which was a request), the rest were anime themes with multiple requests from the audience. Bands such as RIP SLYME, Home Made Kazoku, ORANGE RANGE and UVERworld have become increasingly popular with people over the past couple of years and always seem to get people going. They are also what dominate the popular animes theme-wise (just as they dominate the Japanese charts) Gone are the days of seiyuu sung themes.

We've already discussed the variety issue - getting the balance between playing what's popular along with what people know about anime wise (we felt VERY old when we realised not many people would know the Inu Yasha theme songs) and are going to tweak some things in that area. We're also begging for a wave of cute themes to hit mainstream anime series!

It would have also been nice if you had left this post on the Amecon forums in our feedback thread instead of tucking it away on the forums here. We set up the thread for that reason - to get feedback on what people would like to hear more of and what they'd like to hear less of. Next time it would also help if you were constructive and tell us what you'd like to hear more of 'i.e. cute anime themes, anime themes from the 1990's' a rant is all fine and good, but why not try to help us here and get your ideas into the mix.

We didn't cut any songs short, whether they were relatively unpopular or not. It might have been a TV size version of a song - as in, the version that's actually used on the anime opening/ending credits.

Sorry you didn't enjoy the party. We've had overwhelmingly positive feedback so far, so could you be more specific about the type of music and what songs you'd like to hear instead? Constructive criticism is always useful for improving We did have a request thread open on the forums for a couple of months before the convention, and we were playing mostly requests on the night as well. So perhaps the issue is with your fellow congoers taste in music XD

My jpop knowledge is very limited, i just listen to a few bands intensively ^^

I can't relaly provide much useful critisim but from my point of view, i wasn't really gripped by the music until about 12am when suddenly it was fire at the disco. Maybe you did something different or moved into another style of music? Just thought i'd tell you

Thanks alot for DJing, much appreciated ^___^ (more Iceman plix!)

I have posted on amecon forums lol

^^;; lol I think I was in a bad mood when I wrote this XD Very tired and ill last night ^^;;

Ahh I guess for me that the tunes just didnt catch me untill the end. As for my taste ^^;; I like a bit of everything, which is why it surprised me that I felt it fell abit flat.

I mean, as for anime's I like and the themes to them, I love most of the naruto themes for example, and the FMA ones, macross is also a welcome set of music and I love OHHC (it was lovely to hear Sakura kiss btw)

Um, Gundam ~ love alot of the music from there, from wing to seed destiny ^^ ~ XXX holic has some great music, the themes from there are very cool ^^

The samurai champloo theme is a favourite also ^^;;

Also the cute / dramatic songs from dating animes are awesome X3 (maybe you know the anime meine lieber?)

if you want upbeat and slightly corney there are songs like "shiny day" fron Tokko: devil's awakening X3

Anyway O_O;; I need to go out ^^;;

lol Chococat XD ~ Indeed it may be the fellow congoers taste in music /laugh

I mean dang ~ if thats the case we may be in more need of chair~chan and ame~chan than we originally thought... Maybe the mass glompage of the Dr. wasn't enough to stop him >.<; Oh the horror ^^

I for one will be quick to say that the music events at Amecon were done very well. There were few technical issues (barring the normal few that any event of this size, with so few staff on no pay, would expect) and the variety wasn't that bad if you were willing to switch between rooms or even *gasp* take a breather and head to the bar if you really didn't like a song, maybe even (and this could be pushing the envelope) have a conversation.
So if all else fails, there is no reason to be so down on people who have put themselves out for you, and done a very difficult job, very well indeed.

I'd like to put my two cents in and say that I actually found the j-pop party to be AMAZING. I arrived just as Traveling by Utada Hikaru (who I utterly adore) was starting up, and it had me set for the whole night. I enjoyed every single song played and danced all night.

Repeat performance of this year's party in 08?
Very yes please.

I enjoyed the discos quite a bit~ but on Sunday (I think?) when europop kinda normal uk-disco music was being played, I found it kind of awkward. I didn't really know any of the songs (I know the macarena, YMCA and chicken dance. That's it), but it forced me to go outside and chat with my friends instead, which I suppose is good.

I know that other people enjoyed the europop, but personally I preferred the JPOP/anime themes night.
