Was that that Worldstartv.tv guy (or whatever it was) that turned into an awkward turtle moment? XDD or was there another time? :o

Out of curiosity does anyone have a link to the News of the World article for comparison? Also I am taking if Take a Break were there it will be for next week's magazine? Just would like to know how the article will compare.

Someone did post a link on the Expo board but you have to join the NOTW site to view it.

I think so... all I recall was that it twas world something, either way he was very rude. So I do apologise if it wasn't the news of the world guy who shoved his mic in me face but either way me comment still stands. Press should propperly introduce themselves and their intentions before snapping up pics or interviews and be clearly tagged as press so that way some less desirables can't be sneaky and try to do what's happened with the lass in the 1st comment.

Wow I just visited worldstartv.tv and I think my eyes nearly melted. There site looks like it's from 1998 or something only with videos embedded instead of midis... dancing gifs much?

aside from press badges, which are fairly clear to see unless they are being hidden (in which case, report them to the convention office), there's really little anyone, including MCM can do against press.

unless press actually cause trouble, they pretty much can't be denied press access if they ask for it. there's parts of the human rights act that protect the press in this country, that's how they are allowed to print images of people like moira hindley, or the constable who pushed ian tomlinson over (ie, people who REALLY don't want their face to be public knowledge). blocking press access is pretty much impossible. even if MCM banned the star for it's bad report, they can simply send a freelance in and buy his story. that's seriously how futile the situation is.

[edit]

it's also worth knowing that a journalist owns the rights to their story until a publication pays for it. lets say a journalist who regularly writes for, say, the guardian does a story on a subject, and the guardian doesn't want it, that journalist can easily sell the story on to another publication, where the editor can do what they want to it.

I just thought they were normal photographers but then after the photo they told me they were from big brother. Of couse I tried to get away as quickly as I could. I didnt think the pictures would be put on the daily star though!? Im so upset! Is there anyway to report this or am I just doomed!? TT_TT

Was it the two guys? I think they were wearing badges but I can't be too sure, did they ask you for your real name too?

You can try to contact the site and ask them to remove your photo?

Cool cosplay by the way.

I dont remember seeing any badges on them to be honest. Yes they got my full name down because I told them it before they told me who they were :/ They also published my full name in the newpaper article. Ive already tried to tell them to take my photo but the guy gave me some lame excuse saying how the photo was taken in a public place so they can do what they like blah blah

I really dont like how mcm is being blamed for this on that facebook group. I admit I was all for it at first but now I just think its getting slightly out of hand. We really should be blaming the daily star for this not mcm.

I only joined the group (at first I avoided it till I found out more about the whole thing) and I see why, but my anger is more towards BB and Daily Star. Expo let them in, nothing more can be done about that but people like myself can stand with their views.

I just know its pointless to be one of them whose complaining to MCM, when I could rather focus keeping an eye on things like BB and Daily Star to see if they do anything else to upset people. But at same time, I'm allowed to air my view on how I feel about expo now and then since its only fair when I don't downgrade anyones comment from people who stick up for them.

Yeah that's the problem. People have said it before in this thread but as it's classed as out in public and not in somewhere you expect privacy for example a house then there's not a lot legally you can do. It's the same as why the paps can photograph celebrities as they leave nightclubs etc without being taken to court.

It's pretty crap but unfortunately that's the way the law is.

It's a shame that your just part of a piece of Mike Towers drama manipulation.

i've read your comments in the AL forums, and you really need to understand UK publication laws and press rights before you start to accuse expo of wrong-doing, or complain about no consent. as i tried to explain in the facebook group, expo is at no fault and the star can print whatever they want as long as they don't print about minors/persons protected by law, but they deleted all my posts and banned me. my only assumption is your ALcon friends didn't like that i derailed their attempt to rabble rouse with reality that contradicted their tin-foil hat paranoia.

i also went on to explain that the star has a readership of just 1.1% of the nation, making it more likely to pick the right numbers to win a tener on the lottery than meet a star reader. this makes the whole reaction to this one pretty hilarious. the bad article in the telegraph was worth getting annoyed about, the reporter did some serious twisting and it was a pretty huge article in a supposedly "better" paper. this is a tiny article in an unpopular "lad rag". really nothing to get in a twist about.

Do they know you age???? Just tell them you are under the age of 16 if not then i think its different as it classes as something to do with images and minors XD

Crap way to lie but hey if it gets it down ^.^

I've read my emails and I've almost finished my coffee, and I'm astonished this is still going on.

I know, that ^ is a reference to something I said on another forum, and kudos if you've managed to work out who I am.

And if I must lay it out for you, and I must; all of you, your feelings and emotions count for nothing and do nothing. The world does not care how you feel, or whatever you say at this point. You're feeling and talking, which achieves nothing compared to "doing".

And you're on the internets. This was old news several hours after it was a big thing. You don't wake up in the morning and get down to your mission HQ to take on the media conglomerates do you? No. You get up, eat your damned shreddies and go assume your role as a tiny irrelevant cog in the giant machine called society.

Did AL try and use this for advertising? I missed that one, but I'm sure we all did the right thing and ripped the piss out of them had some lulz and put the stick down after beating that dead horse.

Now then peoples, learn your lessons from this ordeal and go back to sewing.

Seriously, I've almost finished this coffee. If I have to go get another one I'm probably going to have to get a bagel too.

That's what I said 2 pages ago. People are not reading because it's not the answer they want, which is always a great, mature way to deal with a problem...

Still feel bad for Rain, but like I pointed out before in the small print if you attend Expo you consent to have your photo taken by anyone, if they feel nice they might delete it but they could ignore your request which they'd done and there's nothing illegal about that. They can also print it without a consent form because they're a newspaper.

You're right to feel that way. Honestly, if the rest of the people would just calm the heck down, this would've been long forgotten by now and you could've moved on. It's those people running around all guns blazin', linking that article with your picture on it all over FB, that's making it worse for you.

Now I want a coffee...

@JaeXD If yu mean my comment about being under 16 then no it's nothing to do with anything you have said as this is the only forum i post in it was just an idea i had too XD Shows great minds think alike.

My fault for talking about coffee, so I'll get you a coffee one day, don't forget ok? ;D

I have this mental image of us chillaxing over cups of coffee while the world literally runs amok around us, and the air is filled with smoke, gunfire and people's screams... XD

02 Jun 2011 - 11:0258296
i'll be honest, if i hadn't been invited to join the facebook page, i would never have seen it. like i said on the facebook page, THEY are doing more damage than the star are at this stage. if anyone should apologise to anyone, it's the people who set that page up. THEY are the only ones doing anything really wrong by convincing people that laws that simply don't exist have been broken, and expo have betrayed the attendees by not breaking the human rights act. lies and misdirection.

the sad problem is that some facets of our community can't cope with something happening at an event they don't like (because someone told them not to like it) without trying hard to pile on the drama. this is pretty much due to the fact that their event is so drama laiden, they have to try to make tiny things at other events look like major crime incidents.

the people featured are totally in their rights to be upset that they have been printed, but the star lies about everyone and everything. that's why, as i said before, they have a 1.1% share (which is actually notably dropping by the month right now... their circulation was reaching 1.7% this time last year) of the UK reading their tat. they really are the trolls of the newspaper community, and their readers generally aren't really interested in much beyond boobs footie and beer.

i'm going to step away i think now, but before i do, i'd like to remind people about how the papers reported on the hillsborough football stadium disaster of 1989. several newspapers put complete lies on the front page of their paper, and have never really apologised for it. if a paper can lie about fans of the biggest sport in the country, we really don't have much hope of an apology

I admit I'm one of the more prolific trollers in the community, but this is beyond me. Even I know when something is just too stupid for me to poke with a stick.

My shenanigans are good shenanigans. Not like those shenanigans, which if you think about it aren't shenanigans at all... Evil shenanigans.

Let's make it a reality. Hell, if you want I'll bring a table, chairs and bloody tea set, plonk it right in the middle of the most crowded part of next expo and pour you a cup of earl grey.

Sorry Xaereal but I think that alot of people here aren't old enough to remember that.

Well it seems that facts are these:

  • The Daily Star misrepresented alot of people
  • Rain had her picture taken and didn't know that the Star would use it.
  • MCM are not a fault in any way
  • There is a lot of drama about this
  • Said drama is now doing more harm than good
  • Mike Towers and Anime league are milking this in part to do with the axe he has to grind with MCM
  • The Facebook group is scam for Alcon memberships
  • Showmasters have sunk to Towers' level by also milking the drama

I think it's time to end the discussion on this now. It's safe to say that none of us liked what the Star did but it is not that big of a deal. All the tlak of boycotts and apologies is pointless.

Just gotta say, I've heard a lot about Mike Towers and Alcon, but I've never heard a good thing about either. I'm a tad annoyed at Expo for letting BB in, cause I really loathe them with such a passion, but it's not gonna effect me going.

Hell, I'm annoyed for them inviting Beckii Cruel, so...
