1)How Old Are You?
19

2)What Gender Are You?
Female

3)Do you play computer/video games?
I do!

4)Do you play multiplayer more than single player/campaign in these games?
I use to play a lot of multiplayer games, but my two sisters have moved out now, so I don't have anyone to play them with. And my friend doesn't have his multiplayer games anymore so...

5)Do you enjoy team-based gameplay within multiplayer games?
If I with the guy mentioned above, yes. Cause he's the sort that won't give you a chance to learn the controls lol
I don't really mind though

6)Do you prefer a third or first person perspective within a game?
Er... Depends on the game... Though I typically play third person games

7)Do you prefer a health bar or regenerating health?
Health bar with possibilty of health regeneration by resting for a moment or something. I don't like the thought of being able to regain health whilst still in battle, it's not realistic - I know it's a game and thus no real, but really, it annoys me when a supposed human is still fighting something and can regain their stamina.

And really, these two things are totally different from each other anyway. There are games which have a health bar and regenerating health. Lose all the health in the health bar, you die. Give yourself time to heal, your fine.

Prince of Persia (orange+purple head scalf cover) annoyed me by not having a health bar, or by you not being able to die.

8)Do you enjoy objective based gameplay within games?
Doesn't there have to be objectives in every game? I play Proffessor Layton, and even that has an objective despite being puzzles. I have yet to come across a game without objectives that need to be met. Mario kart = win race, SSBB = Win fight etc

9)Are you interested in a narrative within a multiplayer experience?
Yes, I do prefer narrative. However, i also don't mind playing platform fighters either.

10)Do you like reward systems in games? [e.g. upgrading/modifying weapons, armour etc.]
Again, pretty much all games have a reward system. if you defeat a sub-boss in zelda, you get a new toy, if you defeat the boss, you get the heart piece. Complete the scary dungeon that's not part of the game, you can get some really good things.

Everything works on a reward system really.

11)Do you prefer on foot or vehicular based combat?
I really don't care tbh. I'm a big Zelda player, so you have to do both :3

12)Would you like a class system within a multiplayer experience?
The games I play sorta do that, so yeah :3

13)How much does environment and sound alter your experience within a game?
Well, being a media and film studies student, I know that sound and visionary devices are highly important in how a person experiences something. Sound is a really good method in causing a person to feel a certain emotion, and if that's coupled with you being in a huge dark forest then... Well, it just improves how deep you get into it. Really, similar rules to apply to games as to films when it comes to this area ^__^

Hope it helps, sorry if some of the answers are a bit harsh, it's just that some questions weren't worded very well, and were a bit ambigious with meaning.

I figured I'd reply and provide my two pennies' worth. I'm a game design student, so I'll do the best I can to help.

1) How Old Are You?
22

2) What Gender Are You?
Male

3) Do you play computer/video games?
Regularly.

4) Do you play multiplayer more than single player/campaign in these games?
I find myself more often playing single player games. I enjoy narrative-driven games which of course is a more regular occurrence in single player. Thanks to recent developments, campaign modes can be played online sometimes nowadays, but nevertheless, I miss being able to play multiplayer on the same couch as others.

5) Do you enjoy team-based gameplay within multiplayer games?
Yes I do. The most popular genre for competitive and team-based online play nowadays seems to be the first-person shooter. I enjoy playing Capture the Flag and working as a team, but unfortunately you get your fair share of idiots from time to time when playing online, so I often prefer to play with only myself to rely on.

6) Do you prefer a third or first person perspective within a game?
That depends on the game. Some games are better suited to a third-person camera, such as games that require platforming; e.g. adventure games like Tomb Raider. On the other hand, realistic action games that require pinpoint accuracy are of course better suited to a first-person perspective. In addition, first-person works well for a more involving narrative and a greater sense of immersion. After all, you are the protagonist.

So, I can't really provide a perfect answer to this question, but overall I do find myself playing first-person games more because I enjoy the adrenaline rush and the escapism.

7) Do you prefer a health bar or regenerating health?
It's difficult to say, really. Halo was one of the first games to bring "regenerating health" (in this case, a shield) into the mainstream. Halo introduced other interesting mechanics too, such as the weapon carrying limit and good use of vehicles in the campaign. A regenerating shield makes sense in Halo. The Master Chief has MJOLNIR armour which has its own shields, and it's the year 2552. Conversely, the regeneration of health in Call of Duty feels a bit cheap. I think in a narrative-driven game, it depends on whether it fits in with the narrative.

8) Do you enjoy objective based gameplay within games?
As mentioned before, this question is very ambiguous. I think what you were trying to say is, "Do you enjoy linear, narrative-driven games in which the objectives are clearly communicated to the player?", as opposed to sandbox games in which the player has more freedom of choice. If that was what you meant (since all games have objectives), then I generally do prefer linear games. Sandbox games are fun, but without a highly talented development team and a high budget, developers spend too much on the open world environment and the game, well... lacks clear objectives! There needs to be a solid, high quality main quest in a sandbox game for it to be enjoyable.

9) Are you interested in a narrative within a multiplayer experience?
Narrative within multiplayer is a more recent development. For instance, whilst MMOs do have a narrative, its not as well structured as a single player game. With correct execution, I think narrative in multiplayer can be great. A good example of a game dedicated to this is Army of Two.

10) Do you like reward systems in games? [e.g. upgrading/modifying weapons, armour etc.]
It's a good design decision to increase the longevity of a game. However, when actual content is lacking and too much time is spent on "upgrading" (such as levelling up in RPGs by grinding), it can be rather annoying and a cheap way for a developer to add to the gameplay hours.

11) Do you prefer on foot or vehicular based combat?
I'd rather have my feet on the ground. I like to be responsible for my own death (no emo), rather than have my fate decided by the rubbery physics of a vehicle.

12) Would you like a class system within a multiplayer experience?
It depends. That's a broad term.

13) How much does environment and sound alter your experience within a game?
I once read (I can't verify this) that 80% of what we perceive is sound. I think people underestimate the importance of sound in gaming. As a matter of fact, I intend to experiment with designing a game that actually has no user interface (aside from the pure basics) and involves using just a game pad and stereo headphones—a sound-based experience.

Aside from the most primitive games, playing games without sound just isn't fun. It's not just a necessity. Sound is essential.

5)Do you enjoy team-based gameplay within multiplayer games? Yes, team-play is what makes multiplayer fun for me

9)Are you interested in a narrative within a multiplayer experience? "Sort of"...I like narrative but i can play without it
10)Do you like reward systems in games? [e.g. upgrading/modifying weapons, armour etc.] Yes, armour being the best for me. If my character can look awesome in my eyes, i'm happy
11)Do you prefer on foot or vehicular based combat? On foot
12)Would you like a class system within a multiplayer experience? Yes. Whether it's a shooter, a racer or a fighter, i like my playable character to have a choice of classes or roles

1)How Old Are You? 19

2)What Gender Are You? Female

3)Do you play computer/video games? Yup

4)Do you play multiplayer more than single player/campaign in these games? No, I prefer single player.

5)Do you enjoy team-based gameplay within multiplayer games? It really depends on the game. I'm hardly a hardcore gamer, and so don't enjoy playing multiplayer games with people who are considerably better than me - I feel bad if I'm a hindrance to the people playing it.

6)Do you prefer a third or first person perspective within a game? Third by far

7)Do you prefer a health bar or regenerating health? If regenerating health is used in a fast-paced game, to avoid having to remove yourself from the experience in order to go and heal, then I definitely prefer it. However in some situations it just makes things a bit too easy.

8)Do you enjoy objective based gameplay within games? Generally yes, I like a linear game with the option to go off-task and explore if I so choose.

9)Are you interested in a narrative within a multiplayer experience? Personally, I prefer multiplayer games as a kind of fun extra that you can dip into - a fully fledged multiplayer story mode would be difficult to engineer, as you can't ensure that all players will sit down from the beginning and play to the end.

10)Do you like reward systems in games? [e.g. upgrading/modifying weapons, armour etc.] I'm a completionist, I love collectibles and achievements. So yes.

11)Do you prefer on foot or vehicular based combat? Depends on the situation really, a game entirely comprising of vehicle combat sounds kind of boring though, in the context you're talking about anyway.

12)Would you like a class system within a multiplayer experience? Yes, I think it encourages more teamwork for people to have different roles, rather than everyone just playing the same role. They might as well be playing single player.

13)How much does environment and sound alter your experience within a game? Obviously a lot, considering how important graphics are in games these days. And sound is one of those subtle tools which we often don't notice until it's gone. Both of these are very important.

Since I'm in procrastination mode...

1)How Old Are You?
26

2)What Gender Are You?
Male

3)Do you play computer/video games?
Yeah

4)Do you play multiplayer more than single player/campaign in these games?
I play more multiplayer these days.

5)Do you enjoy team-based gameplay within multiplayer games?
With friends yes, with randoms no.

6)Do you prefer a third or first person perspective within a game?
Depends what kind of game. For shooters I much prefer first person, third person shooting mechanics never feel quite right to me. For everything else I prefer 3rd person.

7)Do you prefer a health bar or regenerating health?
Regenerating health.

8)Do you enjoy objective based gameplay within games?
I like objective based gameplay, but I also like having the option to do as I please.

9)Are you interested in a narrative within a multiplayer experience?
Nope - I tend to view multiplayer games as either competitive or a bit of fun. I play single player for narrative though.

10)Do you like reward systems in games? [e.g. upgrading/modifying weapons, armour etc.]
Yeah definitely

11)Do you prefer on foot or vehicular based combat?
Depends how it's implemented, but typically on foot... because nobody gets vehicular combat right

12)Would you like a class system within a multiplayer experience?
Yes

13)How much does environment and sound alter your experience within a game?
They're both extremely important.

11 May 2011 - 17:2856164
1)How Old Are You?
15

2)What Gender Are You?
Female

3)Do you play computer/video games?
Oh yes.

4)Do you play multiplayer more than single player/campaign in these games?
Varies on my mood really, but most games I like can be both multiplayer and singleplayer depending on which mode you select.

5)Do you enjoy team-based gameplay within multiplayer games?
Yup, makes things more fun.

6)Do you prefer a third or first person perspective within a game?
First person.

7)Do you prefer a health bar or regenerating health? Health bar.

8)Do you enjoy objective based gameplay within games?
Yup

9)Are you interested in a narrative within a multiplayer experience?
Sounds interestin'.

10)Do you like reward systems in games? [e.g. upgrading/modifying weapons, armour etc.]
Never say no to rewards

11)Do you prefer on foot or vehicular based combat?
Foot, vehicles make controlling attacks difficult because of the speed at which you're moving.

12)Would you like a class system within a multiplayer experience?
Yes, as long as you don't end up stuck in the same role over and over.

13)How much does environment and sound alter your experience within a game?
It makes or breaks a game. Try imagining the finalfantasy games without their soundtracks, or take away the graphics from CoD and the games wouldn't be anywhere near as successful as they are without them.

11 May 2011 - 18:1756167
1)How Old Are You?
20

2)What Gender Are You?
Girl

3)Do you play computer/video games?
Yes

4)Do you play multiplayer more than single player/campaign in these games?
No, as I seem to have a habit of buying 1-p games (How antisocial)

5)Do you enjoy team-based gameplay within multiplayer games?
Yes, I like puzzle solving in groups as well as trying to screw over your teammates for the most points!

6)Do you prefer a third or first person perspective within a game?
3rd, as I like seeing the character on the screen (I also find it easier)

7)Do you prefer a health bar or regenerating health?
Health bar

8)Do you enjoy objective based gameplay within games?
Like a set goal (I dont understand). I guess it would depend on the genre. Like having an obvjective is kind of necessary in an RPG as otherwise you're just doing it all for no reason.

9)Are you interested in a narrative within a multiplayer experience?
It could be interesting, especially if it was done by someone with a nice voice though it may be hard to make poeple want to concentrate on it
10)Do you like reward systems in games? [e.g. upgrading/modifying weapons, armour etc.]
YES! Getting shiny new things is always awesome.

11)Do you prefer on foot or vehicular based combat?
On foot, as I'm awful at steering vehicles in games, let alone trying to fight and steer at the same time!

12)Would you like a class system within a multiplayer experience?
What kind of class system? Job ranks like in FF, or like an actual working class/middle class type thing?

13)How much does environment and sound alter your experience within a game?
A good soundtrack makes a game. If you have all the visuals, the characters and the story, but the soundtrack is bad, then the game is ruined.
Having a good environment is also pretty essentialas you want to make the world for the characters convincing

2)What Gender Are You?
Boy

3)Do you play computer/video games?
YES, DEAR GOD YES xD my life c:

4)Do you play multiplayer more than single player/campaign in these games?
Nah I mostly play single player games xD I find them more fun and relaxing xD it's rare for me to have company at mine/I never find them as fun xD;;

5)Do you enjoy team-based gameplay within multiplayer games?
Yes definitely c: it's always good to help a friend when playing xD

6)Do you prefer a third or first person perspective within a game?
Third though I do like first now and again c:

7)Do you prefer a health bar or regenerating health?
Dear god I don't think I can answer this >= they both have such redeeming qualities! >=

8)Do you enjoy objective based gameplay within games?
Yus xD but I don't mind letting loose sometimes and just fighting/shooting/whatever for the hell of it c:

9)Are you interested in a narrative within a multiplayer experience?
It'd be different for sure but I dunno if it'd matter too much tbh xD

10)Do you like reward systems in games? [e.g. upgrading/modifying weapons, armour etc.]
DEFO 8D I love working towards getting the ultimate weapon and armours xD it's boring having the same weapons an such all the time xD

11)Do you prefer on foot or vehicular based combat?
On foot c: always a better adventure on foot xD

12)Would you like a class system within a multiplayer experience?
? I dun really get this unless you mean the job class system from FF games xD

13)How much does environment and sound alter your experience within a game?
It alters it a lot, of course the story is always important, but good battle music is the best I find 8D I think games these days work too much on graphics xD sure they're nice and pretty but they need to work more on story me thinks xD

1)How Old Are You
18

2)What Gender Are You?
Female

3)Do you play computer/video games?
Most of the time yes

4)Do you play multiplayer more than single player/campaign in these games?
I mainly just play single player games (like Tomb Raider <3 <3 <3). But whenever I have someone staying over we're always doing multiplayer on a car game or virtual fighting games. I'm not fussed either way!

5)Do you enjoy team-based gameplay within multiplayer games?
Hmmmm not always. Depends on who I'm in a team with.

6)Do you prefer a third or first person perspective within a game?
Third person perspective. I like to watch the character I'm playing.

7)Do you prefer a health bar or regenerating health?
Health Bar. Regenerating health is pointless, it's just cheating!!

8)Do you enjoy objective based gameplay within games?
Most games I play have objecttive gameplay, thats what gaming is all about isn't it? xD well on some games no obviously. But Yeah I do prefer games with objectives - I get into it more when I know what I have to do. Otherwise if I'm put into a room and I don't know what the buttons do when I'm pressing them, its just not enjoyable that way :/ lol thats called being stuck 8D

9)Are you interested in a narrative within a multiplayer experience?
Sure, why not!

10)Do you like reward systems in games? [e.g. upgrading/modifying weapons, armour etc.]
I do, I think thats a good idea. I also really like unlocking different outfits, bonus material and stuff like that. Makes me want to collect all the treasures or whatever and plus I prefer having a choice of different weapons and stuff rather than just being stuck with the same old weapon throughout the game. :/

11)Do you prefer on foot or vehicular based combat?
I prefer foot but I enjoy both
Any different methods of combat are great, better than just haveing 1 method throughout a game.

12)Would you like a class system within a multiplayer experience?
Yes, I like to chose what my characters strengths and abilities are. I like to customise my characters. Elderscrolls is amazing for this <3

13)How much does environment and sound alter your experience within a game?
ALOT!
The quality of graphics doesn't bother me, infact I miss the old pixelated square graphics But I think it's important to keep the player captivated like you are when watching a film. So i think background music is esential particularly when the character is faced with a new challenge or boss battle. I do prefer it when it goes silent and theres no music atall. However in Elderscrolls Oblivion where there'd be this amazingly beautiful background music constantly (srsly i kept falling asleep because of it!) It just really got me into it. Plus the scenery - I love it when places look interesting and the character can interact with different objects. I'm really moved by a beautiful deep storyline. I am so amazed by graphics on games these days, some of them are breathtaking and the characters look so real! I'm really inlove when what they do with light reflection, shadows and water, that really helps to bring a game to life
