hey uni, glad they were of some help. Il rummage through my old links and find the making of videos for you. Il post them up late tonight.

I've got some videos of Doug Jones getting into costume so you can see all the different components used. I've also got a video on Guillermo talking about Abes new wet suit he wears.

I've mostly got videos on the making of Pan, but it was done in almost the exact same way as Abe...just more hard silicone components were used that werent disposable ones like Abes. (His are re-made for each wear as they usually got damaged when taken off as their so thin!)

Oh wow! Sands, you know the best sites. I can't wait to leave work so I can look through it all

Del Toro is just incredible, his mind must be an amazing place.

Garnet was actually my dream cosplay... but I've done it now, yaay! xD But I have many, MANY other dream cosplays I want to do >_>;

My ongoing dream cosplay will always be Gundam Deathscythe from Gundam Wing. That won't change until I do it!

I would also love to do Wing Gundam Zero from Gundam Wing, my second favourite Gundam next to Deathscythe!

I have many human characters that I'd love to do, just to name some: Esther in her rose dress [Trinity Blood], Finn Fish artwork version [Kamikaze Kaito Jeanne], Cloud [Kingdom Hearts] and loads more ;P

27 Aug 2008 - 14:305597
my dream cosplay has recently changed slightly. xD i'm gonna have to go with my original Grand Ball dress idea but due to being money crippled i'm not going to ba able to afford to make it for a loooong time. i'm also not cinfident enough in my abilities that's i'd do a good enough job of it. ^^

but it's be so amazing to make.

*dreamy eyes*

Wow! Great links there Sands. Excellent info sharing.

I think it would be cool to do a Hellboy group someday. I've added Prince Nuada (finally found out his name) to my cosplay list for next year.

I'd absolutely love to cosplay Sumomo from Nanatsuiro Drops. I saw a single article about it last year in Newtype and I fell in love with it straight away.

Bow down to the cuteness! Seriously though, it's a great series and I'd kill for the game to be available here.

13 Sep 2008 - 19:326048
My dream cosplay at the moment would be Yue from CCS but..

Argh! Hair and wings!

13 Sep 2008 - 22:536054
Freya Crescent was my dream cosplay. Now that she's done, I don't have a dream costume anymore! xD I guess whatever I work on in the future will be dream costumes then.

14 Sep 2008 - 09:446061
Freya, I'm sure once dream costumes are done there will be always more to inspire us. For a while Sephiroth was my dream cospaly now that I've completed him I've come up with more. I think its always great to keep giving yourself cosplay goals/dreams. It keeps the hobby fun and interesting.

Indeed!

A couple of years ago and I started cosplaying, at first it was my dream just to sew my own, by myself,

And then I made on myself...

Then I wanted to do a fursuit...

I did it...

Then I wanted to design without patterns!

... I did that too for my guilty gear group...

Now I'm learning to do props X3 because now I dream to actually finish my cosplays well!

Dreams always change and progress X3

(and they always get harder to achieve XD)

Abe Sapien takes 5-7hours to put on, depending on whether hes shirtless or not. This is by a team of about 3 airbrush artists and 2 SFX makeup and prosthetic artists.

In the first film, Abe took between 4 and 8 hours, depending on whether Doug was shirtless or not. His makeup team was Nigel Booth, Simon Webber and the amazing Thom Floutz, who did all of the work. In HELLBOY II it was shortened somewhat as Mike Elizalde's team at Spectral Motion managed to streamline the design. The head took around 3 to 4 hours, with 6 -7 hours for a full body fitting.

Quote Sands:
I'm not sure who designed Abe Sapien, but Pan was done almost souly by Lala Huete. I know that the Costume designer on Hellboy was Sammy Sheldon and the key SFX makeup and prosthetics artist/designer was Roland Blancaflor. I know Lala Huete has her own website, dont think the others do. Guillermo Del Toro himself actually does a lot of the designing though!

Abe was designed by the brilliant Jose Fernandez (who also designed Doug's suit as the Silver Surfer), maquette by Steve Wang and suit designed by Spectral Motion.

'El Fauno' (Pan) was designed from Guillermo's notebook and ideas by Sergio Sandoval, suit designed by David Marti & Montse Ribe and their Oscar-winning team at Barcelona FX shop DDT Efectos Especiales. Makeup applied by David and Montse, animatronics by Xavier Bastida and helped out by Arturo Balseiro. They also designed, built and applied Dougie's other character, El Hombre Palido, The Pale Man.

Quote Sands:
Latex and silicone are used for the entire body hands and feet. His head is mechanical, much the same way as Pan in Pans Labyrinth, Doug Jones mouth is on show but the rest of his head is covered in a very thin mechanical structure covered in a latex/silicone mix skin. The mechanics allow for facial movement, without it he would just have the same expression the same time.

No facial animatronics on Abe, only for his gills, the wires running down Dougie's back and under the prosthetic design. Operated by designer Mark Setrakian, who also designed Abe's respirator. The head is only prosthetics and makeup, taking around 3 hours to apply, with makeup alone around Doug's mouth and lips. The eye blinks and slight frowns that Abe does were added later using CG.

New ones have to be made all the time for him to wear. I have a whole load of tutorials on making these very delicate muscle suits (no foam is used) that i can scan in.

In this you can see how his back is actually enhanced by a lot of latex muscles and airbrushing.

Theres load of videos on Doug Jones myspace of him getting into costume which are very educational.

Im a HUGE fan of Doug Jones and Guillermo Del Toros collaborations together (can you tell!). Id never attempt the costumes myself as I know I'd never live up to their amazing standards and I'd just hate myself if I did a poor job. This is my personal favourite of theres
http://www.thedougjonesexperience.com/hellboy2~4.htm
I think its an incredible design and Doug Jones moves beautifully in it.

p.s. for anyone whos interested Doug Jones also plays this guy

pale man look a like?

p.p.s if anyones interested I also have a load of making of clips of all of doug jones costumes...

The winged creature you have there is one of Doug's three characters in HELLBOY II - the Angel of Death, designed by Norman Cabrera, and built by Mike Elizalde's Spectral Motion, who did most of the creature designs on HELLBOY II. Makeup by Simon Webber and Thom Floutz, with MArk Setrakian again designing the animatronics, this time the wings and the eyes in the wings - which are reather disconcerting when they all swivel around to gaze at you, blinking gently!

The other character is the Chamberlain, the rather weird fellow who gets bullied by Prince Nuala before allowing him to see King Balor. Incidentally, Simon Webber also did the makeup for Roy Dotrice as King Balor - beautiful work, and very haunting up close.

If you would like a more detailed look at the work behind PAN'S LABYRINTH, I've put up a page on Dougie's site with a wealth of behind-the-scenes pics from DDT Efectos Especiales, courtesy of David Marti and Montse Ribe.

Wow! That is one fab group of info right there. Thanks for sharing.

BOT, I now have two dream cosplays that I would love to do some day as well as my safer Seph (which is in the works for Ava 09).

I would love to do Siegfried's costume from Soulcalibur 4. I love all the clear armour and the sword. I would match Siefried quite well as he's only one inch taller than me and I can use my own hair for the cosplay. When my budget for cosplay has grwon bigger then I'll give him ago. The armour building itself I've never mastered so it should be okay to do its teh budget of it that puts me off. After all Seph cost me £100 in the armour alone and that was just six pieces. On the other hand I don't have to buy the tools as I now have them.

One day, he will be built. *strikes determined face*

The other is Minerva from FF7-Crisis Core. I've seen someone do the costume on Cosplay.com so I know its possible. Again it will be my problem with budget.

My dream cosplay would have to be Nina from Breath of Fire 2 but she'll have to be done much later on because of her wings and I want to lose some weight first.

Solidus Snake...

have NOOOOO idea how the hell I'd do it though...

03 Mar 2009 - 18:3011330
All these costumes look so beautiful! I hope that people can achieve their dreams!

My dream costumes, all of which I'll probably embark on are:

Samus Aran- Metroid Prime 2 /SSBB version (That's the Varia Suit)
Epyon OR Wing 0- Gundam Wing (Actually, I'm kinda looking around for a gundam that takes my fancy! Maybe it will end up being an Evangelion instead.)
Ultimecia- FFVIII
Helga Von Vogelweide OR Astaroshe Asran from Trinity Blood
Jenny the Bat (in bat form)- Bloody Roar Primal Fury
Ladydevimon- Digimon
Chocobo- Final Fantasy IX/Cute version (I'll probably never get around to it, but I can dream can't I?)
Innphy- Ninety Nine Nights/ N3

I think that's it so far on the 'dream' list but to be honest I don't think any are above my ability, they will just take time to plan and a lot of money pouring into them!

... This is assuming I get time of course, there are so many costumes I want to make! (both simple and deluxe ^^)
