Manchester Expo Questions
Ok so this is the first time I'll be going to an MCM (cosplaying over a year too o.0) and it's the July MCM in Manchester so I has a few characters.
I'll be attending, along with my lovely second in command Kuro0keashi as Ciel Phantomhive (Me) and Sebastian Michaelis (Her) and was wondering.

1. What it's actually like at an MCM (Feel, people, behaviour, events etc)

2. How are people getting there? I'm getting a train from either Hartlepool, Newcastle or Middlesbrough.

3. What station would I need to get off at because I know it's in central Manchester but when I try to find train fares there are like 5. Manchester Airport, Man Oxford Road, Man Piccadilly, Man UTD Football GD and Manchester Victoria

4. Is it possible for me to meet up with any cosplayers at the station either traveling there or upon arriving?

The atmosphere is amazing, it's got a real buzz to it. The people there are fantastic, granted you can get a couple of idiots. The events are awesome, I love going to the little meets/ photoshoots. Everyone is so friendly and fun to be around.

2. How are people getting there? I'm getting a train from either Hartlepool, Newcastle or Middlesbrough.

I'm getting a train from Doncaster.

3. What station would I need to get off at because I know it's in central Manchester but when I try to find train fares there are like 5. Manchester Airport, Man Oxford Road, Man Piccadilly, Man UTD Football GD and Manchester Victoria

I'm getting off at Manchester Oxford Road because it's quite close to the convention centre.

4. Is it possible for me to meet up with any cosplayers at the station either traveling there or upon arriving?

Yeah, you're welcome to walk with me and my friends if you'd like. I've never been to Manchester so I'm a little bit nervous.

1. What it's actually like at an MCM (Feel, people, behaviour, events etc)

The atmosphere is great, and really friendly. Of course, like the previous poster said, you do get idiots but it's easy enough to ignore them. The event seems a little disorganised at times but that didn't upset much (get there early and ask for a program so you know where everything is, because last Expo none of the staff we asked knew where something - or anything, really - was and when we were directed to the guy who was supposed to know, he asked us to come back and tell him if we found out because he hadn't been told lol...actually, I'd ask other con-goers for directions). Just don't be too shy to speak to people. Most cosplayers are ecstatic to be asked for photos.

3. What station would I need to get off at because I know it's in central Manchester but when I try to find train fares there are like 5. Manchester Airport, Man Oxford Road, Man Piccadilly, Man UTD Football GD and Manchester Victoria

I'll be getting off at Piccadilly because it seems to be the easiest/cheapest option from where I'm coming from (it's the biggest station and you'd have to change there anyway for any of the smaller stations). As far as I can tell, you can get the Metrolink to near the venue from there. I'd check to see which fares are the cheapest from where you're travelling from and how many changes you'd need to do. Sometimes you can pay through the nose to travel to a station via a connection when you could reach it for a couple of pound on local public transport.

4. Is it possible for me to meet up with any cosplayers at the station either traveling there or upon arriving?

I'd be up for that and I could meet you at Newcastle if you travel from there. My con buddy decided to drop out and go to LFCC instead so it would be cool to have someone to walk/travel with, since I've never been to Manchester before.

Hello there! I'm from around Manchester and go there pretty regularly, so I hope I can help!

On train stations: Do NOT get off at the Airport or Man Utd stations, you'll be miles away! XD

Any from Picadilly, Victoria or Oxford Road are fine. I've never been to the Oxford Rd station myself, but according to Google its the closest one to the Expo. Picadilly and Victoria are slightly further away, but no more than a 15 minute walk, and both take you through the main central shopping areas of Manchester which is useful if you want to eat or shop before the Expo etc.
You could easily catch a city centre bus too, they're pretty much everywhere and fairly cheap! But check the bus routes and times carefully, as it can be a bit confusing. Apparently Manchester has one of the busiest bus routes in Europe! Oh and the eco-friendly green Stagecoaches charge you more than normal buses, even to the same destinations...
Hope this helps!

In terms of train stations...

THE closest station to the centre is Deansgate, however unless your travelling on very specific local trains it'll be hard to get there! =D

(if you can get to Deansgate, do, it has a covered walkway from the station into the convention centre; once you've got there you realy can't get lost!)

Manchester Oxford Road is your next closest bet, as the walk from there is very short.

If you arrive at Picadilly (most likely) or Victoria your best route may be to catch the tram to Deansgate. This avoids getting lost in central Manchester, and could actually cost you no extra! If your train ticket says "Manchester Central Stations" (or some abreviation) you can take the tram between stations for free!

I hope that helps.
Any more questions about transport in that area of Manchester do ask, I'm rather well versed...XD

Hi,

I'll be getting off at oxford road myself too as it is the closest and i know the way to the centre from there haha!

Any other station like picadilly/victoria you can always get the tram if your not 100% sure but thats a waste of time if you get off at oxford as by the time you have waited got to the centre and got off etc you can be inside it by walking haha!

I'll be going by train from Warrington so people are more than welcome to meet up with me and anyone im with though not sure how early im getting there at the min!

feel free to message me or add me to any of the things on my info page and chat anytime before or after the event! Even if you're not going!! ^.^

Here is the train situation for you guys it makes me laugh cos I've travelled. To this stop today. Okay you can get to it 2 ways either the train or metro. The stop you need is deansgate (gmex). If you go from picadilly you can get either metro or train. If you are comming from victoria you need to get the altrincham metro if you get a train ticket. Ie your travellin that day the metro is free within city limits with your train ticket. Oh if your gettin. Metro from picadilly you need the altrincham metro too. If you are gettin train from picasilly there are a few suxh as salford centralm blackpool you just need to get off at deansgate. To find the gmex find the hilton hotel roight behinf that is manchester central (gmex) if you get off metro you can see an arch buildiing that's what you want. The hilton hotel looks like a ps2 on its side lol hope that helps

Oh yeah I forgot about Deansgate station,

it's around the same distance as Oxford the problem I've found with that station is that not many trains (from my way at least) seem to stop there and they are always at awkward times!

For those who travel to Manchester Piccadilly Station or Victora Station (Just in case your train doesn't stop at Oxford Road) there is a free bus service that runs around the city. You can find out more here http://www.tfgm.com/buses/metroshuttle.cfm

There is also the Metrolink. The nearest stop to the Manchester Centre is St Peter's Square. You can find out more info here http://www.metrolink.co.uk/

I live in Manchester so do feel free to ask any more questions
