i didn't think it'd be appropriate to put this up in my costume section, 'cos it's a prop. but i wanted to share the experiment with everyone.

i aim to make a BIG right hand of doom for the hellboy costume i completed recently - a fully working, moveable right hand of doom. i'm going to start work on the basic structure tonight, and will be providing progress pics every time i make a change to it.

i remember in technology class once we studied the forces used by muscles... elsatic bands for muscles and wooden "bones".

i think it'll be an adaptation on that theme. a wooden skeleton, surrounded by a foamboard/craft foam/wooden sheath, of sorts.

the skeleton is idle.

string on the back of the fingers attaches them to the main muscle, which is elastic tied roughly where your wrist meets the back of your hand. this keeps the fingers extended.

loose string, fixed to the underside of the fingers and running through a feed at the veiny-part of your wrist, can be tugged to imitate the movement of voluntary muscles, making the hand close.

it's gonna be intricate work...
