Does anyone know anywhere that either sells cheap fake chainmail, or does anyone know if there is any material I could use to give off the same effect? ^^ thank you!

I've found some good fabric/mesh/netting for it in my fabric shop. It was black with flakes of silver in which gave it a metal look! So I recommend looking XDXD

You pretty much slice up a PVC pipe into a ton of plastic rings, paint them silver, and link them all together. The only real cost in this would be your free time. I only made small amounts to sew under sleeves to give the look of a full chainmail vest, and they still took forever
