SPAM
Seriously, we need a better way of ensuring the spam bots don't spam all over our forums. I've just spent a pretty long time reporting most of the posts of the latest offender.
Anyone who knows me knows that spam REALLY gets on my nerves. >.<

You do realise that the entire website AND the forums are policed by only a handfull of people?

Thats the reason WHY you can report things such as Spam.

The people who run the site aren't doing this as a day job, they don't get paied. They all have day jobs themselves so it's a given that some spam, offensive images or whatever are going to slip through the cracks and thats why it's important to report them.

You are coming across as extreamly rude from your post, I for one am very appreciative of the service these people give us with CI and I respect how much work it is to maintain everything.

It's people who don't understand this, who don't read the rules and who seem to assume that the website runs on infinate space and bandwith and doesn't cost a penny that REALLY annoy me. And I'm pretty sure it annoys alot of people the same way too.

A bit of appreciation wouldn't go amiss. Seriously, if you diddn't mean to come across as rude and unappreciative, then sorry, but your post reads as such.

To be honest though, if you are that sick of Spam and the like, why don't you step up to the plate and apply to be a Mod?

Hey, no worries - I can tell you didn't mean it as an attack on us personally. Thank you Lulu for your lovely support for us, but please remember not everyone knows the small scale of the team so might not see how their posts come across!

The issue we've got isn't spambots - we're reasonably bot-proof - these are actually people manually signing up and posting (generally from Chinese costume sellers) which we cannot block. God knows why they think it's worth their time to do so, but they keep at it. It's an ongoing war that Amy_Lou and I have with them!

The best thing you can do is to ignore them (i.e. don't respond) and report them - and we'll pick 'em up as soon as possible

If you want help, I could sort out the spam bots. I'm online pretty much everyday (I have no social life) and always spot them...always... ¬_¬

Hehe, they seem to get to you as much as they do to Amy-Lou (someone who hardly ever gets angry, but man those spammers incur her wrath!)

At the moment we'll be working on the moderator tools meaning we can take people on to help out a lot more (at the moment it's very hard to give people access to just parts of the site to moderate) But I'll remember you for once we've sorted that out!

Ok then :3 I'll be happy to help.

In all honesty it didn't really come across that you meant to be rude, everyone gets frustrated by spam and I'm sure you consider the fact that everyone who runs this site works very hard for us =). Probably a case of being mis-worded and mis-read!

I mean we can all just do our bit by helping out and reporting spam, and also helping those who work so hard running the site by keeping it all going smoothly.

Emu:

Appologies if I came across as harsh, which I know I did. I'm a very blunt person and sometimes I wont realise how something might come across to someone who may not be as blunt as I am.

My comments weren't 100% directed at you, I've seen alot of threads dissolve into "the mods should do this, that and everything" and with most of it being very rude or with no thanks or respect for what they all do for us every day. As someone who has provided a service for people of the community myself, I'm no stranger to rude people and being given no thanks for what I do, and of course, people not realising exactly what goes into it. I've also moderated forums in the past myself so I suppose I have a chip on my shoulder when it comes to this stuff.

I am sorry if I upset you, I'm sure your post was done when you were sick and tired of all the spammy posts so you, like me was just annoyed by it.

I know what you mean, the spammers are very annoying and they seem to be in large force more recently and it is a right pain.

I didn't think it was rude, but I do want to thank Lulu Rose for saying what I've felt in a lot of similar threads. I do appreciate it and all of the staff are the same I'm sure ^_^

In regards to the Spam, as Delusional said, it's mostly people rather than bots as there are anti-bot measures. The spam comes from people signing up, spamming everywhere then disappearing.

We then have to manually remove the threads and ban the people.

The best thing to do is to report the spam posts and NOT post in them. The last bunch I deleted had 5 or 6 comments each with all of them saying things about how it was spam. All that does is draw more attention, which is what spammers kinda want LOL

Hey, it's ok. I just worded my post wrong. I'm not one to bear offence or a grudge.

Yes, spam posts/bots are annoying but I can see why it would be hard work to sort them out. Especially for a small team. Not a lot of members know that there is only a handful of mods. I can understand Amy-lou's anger. When I used to mod on a SquareEnix cosplay site they would appear all the time. Not just spam bots but people joining just so they could try and sell merchandise and costumes.

I agree with Sean, that the best way is to not comment and report them that way if a mod does have to delete there isn't quite so much to delete.

I'm happy to help if its needed. Have been a mod before
