Posing is all well and good but how do people stop the giggles? I think mine came about from not really knowing how to pose for a camera at all...but even after i got told which poses to do, i still couldnt stop smiling or giggling.. is it just a case of getting "into character?"

I've found that thinking of something that's really annoyed me in the past few days works... I used to have the giggling problem as well xD But yeah, I tend to get myself in a temporarily bad mood that I know I can lift myself out of. Though it doesn't work very well when you've got loads of people playing dead around you shouting abuse xD (long story)

I'll see if i can put myself in a temp bad mood but i'm not sure i can. If i am in a bad mood then fine if i'm not then i find it tough to put myself in one..especially if i am having fun at the con!

I think i giggle because i feel a bit silly posing with people around...even if it is just a photographer! Once i put it out of my head and concentrate on the photo it seems to be much better. But there is always that initial giggle! XD

I was going to suggest that it might just be a bit of embarrassment. Are you new on the scene? If it is, then it may go away as you get more used to people taking your photo. Otherwise just try not to think about it too much.

I imagine myself somewhere else when in front of cameras ^^; kind of like, forgetting where I am for a while =)

Yep I'm very new! My gf was getting back into the scene for Aya and i thought i would give it a go myself and join in. It was good fun! Even if it was raining a bit meaning i had a hoody on most of the time.

Wasnt really planning to have any photos taken to be honest (although i was warned ahead of time that it might happen) so wasnt really expecting it which also didnt help much. Slight naivety there perhaps but i will know for next time!

Still, i do intend to do it again so hopefully i will get used to it. Going to work on my Snow cosplay so he actually has his coat, vest etc rather than just bandages and look into doing some others too.

I only get the giggles when posing with people, on my own I'm fine. Most of the time.

Specially when me and my best friend were getting photos for our Gene and Melfina cosplays. We had to look at eachother all lovingly and we just kept bursting out into fits of laughter!

I sometimes giggle when getting photos on my own as I feel silly or I feel like I'm not doing a great pose so I laugh it off but that's just a lack of confidence thing.

Quite nervous for Kitacon next year as one of my characters is really badass so my poses and facial expressions have to be dead on. So no giggling aloud!

I'm going to practice posing so much and my friend even said she'd help. xD

I'm also in the habit of always smiling for photos. If someone else points the camera at me it has always been "SMILE!!" and thats it. Now all of a sudden I have to look moody or like i'm being punched or cheeky or whatever and i'm never too sure how!

Strange thing is when I have taken photos of myself in the past (myspace style!! XD) I rarely smiled..

Most important thing with the giggles: stop worrying about them

They'll happen, sometimes they even produce some good photos with natural smiles/laughter, if they don't then those photos will just get deleted, unless your photographer is impatient and is shooting film, there's nothing to fret about. Well, unless you suspect they secretly keep a private collection of bad laughter photos..

The giggles will calm eventually and even if you only last another 3 seconds before exploding into fits of laughter, cameras only need a split-second to have taken a shot while you were posed!

So to that end, try not to totally break your stance/pose/whatever, let the giggles happen and get right back into it - if you drop your pose and wander off to calm down, you'll need the time to get back into position so less chance those 3 seconds will happen XD

Photographers are (typically) patient, a lot of little touches that you may not notice in the final picture are down to waiting for the right moment; someone in the background to exit the shot, the wind to blow, etc.. So as long as you keep the giggles to roughly where you need to be anyway, they can patiently stare down the lens until the magical moment happens.

Might as well pimp this now I've written it up:

A little (read: stupid amounts of) advice for posing in general!
