Graysull8 was my inspiration, with this cloud costume:

http://www.cosplayisland.co.uk/costume/view/422

I saw him at a shitty little local event back in 2007 wearing it, and it made me realise that I'd really like to have a go making something as cool.

3 1/2 years down the line and here I am!

I was at college and my friend said I was going to an expo in costume with them. With about a week of time before the expo I modded some chinese style black pjs and made some red pads out of cheap satin stuffed with wadding XD I was Sango for an Inuyasha group at october expo 2006 and since then I've been ever so slightly hooked!! So much funsies ^_^

I seem to remember Gren and Cherry ( http://www.cosplay.com/gallery/35527/ ) being the first cosplayers that I'd seen on the internet. I wanted to start cosplaying for aaaaages when I first found out about them but I thought that the UK didn't do anything like that and didn't have any events dedicated to it. ...How wrong I was haha XD

It wasn't until 2006 when I first went to an expo though and I made sure to take up the chance to cosplay then too. Since then I haven't been to anything not in cosplay!

Waaayyy back in 1989 I attended some local sci-fi clubs. Costuming (as cosplay was then known) was mentioned and interested by the idea of it I looked into it. It was a way to show who you were a fan of and in the cast of 'Star Trek' which part of the Fleet you were part of.

I had a go at making my first costume, Han Solo, to be part of the club costume group (for mini events). I then attended my first con in 1992 (a Doctor Who convention). Costumes were everywhere at the con and I loved seeing the time that people had put into them. I saw it as a chance to express myself creatively and to try out my acting.

I've been part of it since.

I think it was my first con.
To be honest, I don't remember how I found out about cosplaying. When I found out I was going to my first con (Amecon 04) cosplaying seemed like something I HAD to (in a good way). I was going to a con, and people cosplayed at cons. So, having never thought about the matter before, I just went for my favourite character (Sailor Mercury). I didn't even think about whether or not I could make it. I went out and bought the material and then looked at what I had to do.
Back then, I don't think it was possible to buy your cosplay, so if you wanted to cosplay you had to make it. Though, cosplaying was also sold to me as MAKING the costume that you wear (I didn't even know that people bought their cosplays until Amecon 08). So I think that's really effected how I cosplay and see it.

I was gonna cosplay at a following expo, but a work college warned me that at the last expo there were only two fat, middle aged me doing startrek characters. At the time that was true, but then I went, it went up to a whole 50 people cosplaying O.O Anyway, as a result, I didn't cosplay 'til the next Amecon, two years later.

ermm, I'd wanted to make FFx Lulu's dress since I first played the game way back when lol, but never thought I'd do it (due to my size I figured there's was no point lol) until a couple of years ago when I had loads of free time and nothing else to do (gap year went wrong) and figured what the hell I'll give it a go and then flooked into making it and learned all about cosplay (I'd heard of it but didn't know that much about it!) and since then I've never looked back; I love it so much! I'm constantly being inspired by so many other cosplayers it just keeps getting me to do it more

xxx

I was watching Nekoni on deviantart, and she posted a journal about the London MCM in October 2008, and I suppose that's what gave me the idea.

I went to MCM in October 2008 with a group of friends, mainly to check out new games playable and have a day out with all of us. I saw all the costumes there and just though....I really want to give it a try! From there I took my favourite comic book characters, Domino from X Force and Harley Quinn from Batman, and knocked up a couple of costumes. Harley was much less successful but definitely a learning experience! Domino I love so much I want to wear every time even though so few people know her :'(

Anyhow, since then I've become more and more into the idea and general love of cosplay, and keep thinking of more costumes I'd love to do!

Well, my first con I heard about was the MCM Expo in May 2008. And I was a Hellsing nut at the time (still am!) and I loved Rip van Winkle So that's what inspired me to dress up.

I was watching Card Captor Sakura on youtube and on the side bar it had a video titled cosplay and I could see someone dressed up. I clicked on it and soon found out about cosplay and went to my first expo in 2009, now I'm hooked!

Seconded, thirded...and fourthed .
If I'd had the means, I'd have been cosplaying in 1989! I'm not even kidding either...my mother is a Trekkie, so I'd have been a baby Spock or something if she'd known about it back then XD.

Well I first developed an interest in cosplay when I was about mid-teens. I think it was through a Final Fantasy fansite...part of the gallery was dedicated to cosplay. Didn't start until late last year when I discovered Expo. So I'm still in the 'not very good but trying' stage, but I'm eager to learn .
Unless you include dressing as Scully once in primary school haha.

I've had an awareness of people costuming since I was taken to a Star Trek convention when I was about nine or ten.
There were hundreds of people dressed up, but being so young, I didn't really understand.

But as I got older, I got more into anime/manga/Japanese culture and wanted to make a costume for a Hallowe'en party, so I made my favourite character, Vincent Valentine.

I didn't find out about cosplay and Cons until after that, when I googled 'people dressed as Vincent Valentine' and saw that it was actually quite a big thing.

I think the level of detail that people can achieve inspired me, and the fact that a character from a game or a cartoon can sort of become a real, living, breathing person.

Four years on, I'm still at it. . .

I'd heard of cosplay before but I got involved in it thanks to a friend telling me about it as well as Expo, so I got an Ebay cosplay (that is actually pretty nifty) for fun and went to my first Expo, May 2008, and saw all the cosplayers who'd made their cosplays (I remember particularly fangasming over GunstarVixen's Beatrix)

Then I just got really inspired to do it myself so with some help from family and friends I've been developing my skills to create cosplays
