I've suddenly realised that i'm forking out for hotels in a very close space of time (damn you JCC and October expo being so close!)

SO I was wondering what hotels in London people have stayed at near excel that aren't to high on the price scale?

Otherwise it's scraping togther my pay for Docklands again! xD

No5t really got an idea out side of the expo area but when i look i find Custom House to be the cheapest at just uner £200 for fri-mon

£90 for three nights at a apartment in canary wharf near blackwall DLR.

I'm actually still looking for extra people for May.

Its not as close as some hotels, but we get loads of room and its 4star. I've walked to docklands travel lodge from the place and it took 10mins. And its about 10 mins on the DLR or 7 mins via car to ExCel.

£90 for three nights? I think i'd book there! do you have a link or anything?

I've just booked mine for October, and because I booked so early and chose the "We will keep your money if you cancel" option it only came to £110 for three nights, which really isn't that bad (travelodge LCA) I'm staying at the same place in May but it cost more because I didn't book it as early I guess ^^;

Etap isnt too bad £150 for 3 nights and you can have upto 3 people in the room (or more if you sneak them in) so the price can come down pretty well You do have to walk about 20-30 mins to excel though or a 10 min dlr journey.

Got two nights in Custom House for about £109...and that's just me in a room, it's a case of waiting and seeing). However, for October Expo the standard rooms are already gone. One of my friends had to book a 'superior' room or something, which I think was about £20 more.
If you get the advance rates, you get a discount or something.

Nothing is without a catch.

The apartments are for 6 people, so you need to get that many in. However there is room for much.. much more than that. There's a huge sofa so we have an extra on there, for 7, that's how we divvy up the price to £30 a night.

We could potentially get like 10 people in with space to spare, but we choose not to as there's two toilets/showers and between 10 things get hectic.

The deposit (is refunded) is £250 too. But for the quality of the place, its literally awesome.

At the moment we have 4 people, so we've room for 3 more due to recent drop outs, and the fact I dislike saving places for anyone who is a "maybe".

I've ended up booking custom house. They take payment upon arrival and it was £129 for me to book friday and saturday night

Isn't a cheap hotel near expo an oxymoron? I know I pay out the teeth everytime but it's worth it for the weekend. Good luck either way.

I booked a hotel called citystay its right next to the DLR and just 20 mins away. Think it was around £200 and thats Friday to Monday.

Last October me and two friends stayed in a family room at Docklands travelodge and for two nights it cost £90 (so that's £30 each!). There were quite a few other cosplayers there, too. It's a little out of the way, two stops on the train I think, but you could easily walk there from the hotel, and if not tickets for the train are very cheap.

It's better going to a hotel a little out of the way, because the hotels nearby put the prices up ridiculous amounts of expo weekends :3!

Custom House is pretty cheap as far as London Hotels go. It's very very close to Excel as well - and more importantly, the Fox ;D

LCA Travelodge is cheap. May 2010, I paid £37 (sharing with four others). October 2010, I paid £40 (sharing with three others). I've paid £57 for May 2011 (sharing with two others).
The entire weekend for all of them. The beds are comfortable enough, it's only a 5-10 minute walk to expo, and it's always FULL of cosplayers, so if you don't have friends with you, you can usually find someone looking for an extra person to share a room with, to make it cheaper.
