Katana Stencil
Does anyone have, or know of a stencil that I can print out in A4 in sections and cut out a side view of a katana?

I need to make a few and the base of it is a standard full length katana. Its tricky to nail down that signiture curve of the blade ;/

Thanks for any info!

I've found a Pepakura file of Sephiroth's katana if that's any good for you.

If not I have a Katana which I could draw around, scan and stick the pics to make a stencil for you.

That'd be very kind of you to do so, but lets save that for an emergency ^^

I'll have a go at the link you've given, what surprises me is that there isn't a ready archive of weapon stencils.

Are there any more papercrafts? This looks like fun :F

Edit: GOOD GRAVY. This is awesome, manageable sizes and its so easy to do. I'll post pictures of my progression using papercraft to make a katana.

I had to download Pepakura viewer but that's not a problem.

Thank you so much!

I've found them for the buster sword, Genesis' sword, The Soldier Sword and then that one from FF VII: Crisis Core but they seem a little short as Sephiroth's katana is supposed to be between 6 and 8 feet long and the buster sword 5-6 feet long but those pepakura files are only 120cm and 130cm respectively.
Nothing that adding a few more sections can't fix though.

If you do make it I'd definitely recommend using card stock. Printer paper is ok for test pieces but if you want any strength from it card stock is the way to go.

The one you've linked me is a massive sword, not like 6 foot, but definitely over a metre for the blade alone. I'll skip out a section to make it look more like a regular katana.

I've got surplus mountboard that is left over from University presentations, a few A1 sheets. I'll test it out on that and see what I can do. I've missed out the first section (4/5) and I'll keep with the rest.

The 3D model looks like it needs to be folded, which explains why its so thick, I'll have to compensate for that.

Takin' pics ;D

I'll look forward to the pics.
I'm thinking of making a Kadaj double Katana using that pep so it will be nice to see the finished product.

I've cut it out in balsa now. Its a bit wobbly, being balsa of course so I'll have to be very careful with it when its out of the sheath.

Using balsa however was incredibly quick, I had layed the sword shape on and cut it out within 30 mins, I'll start sanding soon and apply a chrome paint job once its primed.

I'm havin a bit of trouble getting pics off my phone ~_~ I'll try again tonight.

Have you thought about coating it in fibreglass resin to give it a little more strength?
You may need to wait until the spring to do it though unless you have a garage or shed you can put some heaters in.

I had thought about using some kind of metallic sticky film to finish it with. Easier than painting and quicker too, also gives it some kind of strength.

Haven't been able to find any sticky back plastic metallic film >_<

This is for a one night anime party, its probably going to be dark anyway. So I'm thinking of it as a sword making trial for future cosplays.

Here's the sword prints;

The one on the left is the full size one, on the right is one at 90%. Both of them have one section missing, so you can imagine how big it would be at 100% and all the sections in.

Here's the 90% on balsa.

It was actually still too thick so I've carefully taken 3-4 mm off one edge so it looks about right now.

All that needs to come now is the hilt, priming and painting.

(also, I know my desk is a mess ~_~)
