Materials used for armour making include craft foam, card, paper mache and various other foams such as plastazote and foamex. One favourite is plastazote. This is a study foam which can be used to build up the base of the armour. It's quite cheap and safe to work with. Xaerael on here made a very good alphonse armour set out of it, see here. Plastazote needs to be covered to enable it to be painted. Some use latex, others use PVA glue. However, some of the materials used to seal, such as isoflex, can be dangerous. Suppliers and some of the techniques are discussed here. Unless you are already experienced in using fibre glass, I wouldn't recommend trying it. It is dangerous and requires a well ventilated or open space to use it. Very few people on here use it and there are a number of other, safer, materials which are better. Given this is your first costume, you will probably need to experiment a bit with some of the materials so you get a feel for how they work and see which one suits you best. There are various people on here how have made armour or armour pieces, many of which will have given some detail in their costume profile. Go forth and look. __________________ Somehow it's reassuring knowing I'm not the only one pretending to be normal |
